Omnicat,
..all that you've said..ditto! wow! It's just so interesting to be able to analyze what sort of writing style is effective for each character, particularly Heero and Relena. I've always had an inkling as to how they should sound like when giving their P.O.V.s but I never really dissected the idea that much into specificity. No wonder some P.O.Vs are not as effective as others..because it's not just about being able to communicate to the readers what the plot is but also considering what VOICE the character will most likely use. whew! that was a bit fun -- freudian analysis & whatnot.
To other writers out there, if you're stuck with how you want your character to "sound like" (esp. in P.O.Vs), may this serve as a guideline..tee-hee...

Oy! Don't go calling it anything more than rambling now.
Seriously, I only just thought all of that up...
I'm afraid my lack of familiarity with writer-lingo (especially in English) is showing, because I'm a little confused when you say "voice". I always thought "a character's voice" referred more to, say... Zechs and Relena's poetic way of phrasing things, Trowa's penchant for responding to intimate or "deep" subjects in a somewhat exaggerated or dramatic way (though this one could just be my imagination) and saying "appreciate it" instead of "thanks", Duo's sarcasm and way of dubbing people "pal", "buddy" or "babe" the moment he meets them, and et cetera...
Are we talking about the same thing here, or...

yep ..more or less, it's a rambling but an insightful one at that.
Anyhow, as regards to the 'VOICE'. I was actually referring to the Active Voice and Passive Voice of forming a sentence. It's just English grammar technical stuff and whatnot...but it's kinda nice to know what it is. So, here's my unsolicited lil' lesson..tee-hee
An "Active Voice" is when the subject is doing the action. It is simpler in construction, easier to understand, and overall, I would say a lot stronger/commanding (not literally).
i.e. Heero loves Relena.
I ate the apple.
A "Passive Voice" is when the object or target of the action becomes the highlight of the sentence.
i.e. Relena is loved by Heero.
The apple was eaten by me.
whew! just off the top of my head...so, it might not be in such great detail with lots of 'technical' terms but there you go. Hopefully, I didn't confuse you too much. Cheers!

"People who want to die, hurry up and die. You're wasting good air."

Quatre: Trowa's dead!
Heero: Yeah, you killed him.

Ah, okay. The term I'm familiar with using for that translates closer to "mode" than "voice". Thanks for clearing it up. ^_^
I dunno about Relena being more prone to using the passive voice, though. English not being my mother tongue it's a tad bit hard to judge the effect, but "passive" just doesn't seem to fit her. I think she may use "we" more often than "I", making her own part less prominent without taking away from all the energy she puts into the world, but... I dunno. I feel like I'm rambling. *sigh*
