So why Relena and Trowa?

One time I wrote a short fanfic about Duo & Relena just to experiment a little. It's nothing fancy. I pretty much did it out of total boredom I think. In fact, I'm not sure what made me write it. If you MUST read it though, here it is:



Duo and Relena get down and dirty

Description:I got bored one day, and decided to do something with Duo and Relena for a change.

Duo and Relena find the house in the forest they were told to stay at by The Captain.

Duo pulls into the drive way.





Duo:Welp, here we are.

Relena:This is it?

Duo:It doesn't look to big.......



Duo and Relena get out of the car, and go into the house.

Duo was wearing a black leather jacket with no shirt, and White Jeans.

Relena was in one of those sleeveless, strapless dresses.



Duo:(Walks in)Man, I was right.



When they get in, The whole house is one room, with one big bed, a table, a coffee table, two chairs, a TV, a sofa, a refrigerator, a stove, an oven, and a turntable...(With some Iron Maiden, Quiet Riot, and Judas Priest vinyl records sitting on top of it in a crate.



Duo:It's small, but there's enough in here to keep us occupied for days.

Relena:You think the bed is big enough?

Duo:Big Enough? For What?



Relena begins to look suspiciously at Duo. Duo has that nervous glare in his eyes. Then she puts her hands on the back of his head, pulls it forward, and kisses his cold lips.

Duo then kisses her back, and picks her up, and carries her to the bed, and lies her down flat on it. He kisses her again, then Relena grabs the zipper of his jacket, and pulls it down. Duo slides the jacket off, the top half of his body now has nothing at all covering it. Relena then sits up to slip off her dress. She is now covered in nothing but her bra and panties. She jumps on top of Duo. and starts to kiss him passionately on the lips, Duo then licks her neck.



Relena:(Whispering:I love you.)

Duo:I feel the same way.

They then end up under the covers, and Relena is sound asleep. Duo then looks down at her.



Duo:I will love you forever.



He then pulls out a walkman and headphones. He puts in a cassette tape labeled:

BRING 'EM BACH ALIVE.

It's an album by former Skid Row frontman:Sebastian Bach (Not to be confused with the composer of the same name.) He then presses the play button. He then eventually drifts off to sleep too...

Yeah, I know this one was short, but give me some credit anyway.

See? I told ya it was nothing special. I don't even remember if I wrote it in 2000 or 2001. And yes, I used to be called "Kartune2".

Incidentally, Trowa and Relena did meet in the series. In Antarctica. It was brief, he told her where the battle was happening (Zechs vs Heero). Other than that, he remarked on how influential Relena must be that she could move a guy like Heero into action - episode...44/45-ish.

Personally, what I liked about the pairing is that I see Trowa and Heero as most alike. Whereas it's entirely possible that the sometimes-obtuse one (Heero) might not pull it together and go sweep Relena off her feet - due to issues of his own self-worth - Trowa had a realization when he was going to copy Heero's move and self-destruct, that he was worth something (thanks to Catherine).

BECAUSE he does realize his life is worthwhile, BECAUSE he is the one most like Heero (without being Heero), BECAUSE he has a respect for her, that is why I can see the Trowa x Relena pairing as a possibility.

I won't comment too much on the other pairings because most of those are not favorable opinions. I could see Duo x Relena, but not necessarily as a lasting thing. I see Duo as a guy who'd like her, want to date her, but I see Relena as too serious for their relationship to really work. But. That's an author thing. And someone could portray Duo's "darker" side and probably get it to work quite well.

There are a number of 2xR fics, especially from the earlier days in fandom. Duo's popular with lots of people in many 'sectors' of fandom. I'd bet that if someone counted all the fics, 2xR is actually more popular than 3xR - which seems to be just more popular on this forum. Blame Sphinx.

The "opposites" Wufei x Relena have been gaining popularity - esp. in the larger fandom. Wufei has never been the most popular character in fandom. So, even people who don't like Relena much are willing to pair him with her. It's got a whole set of issues to resolve, but again, due to the popularity of Wufei, it's probably never going to out-pace 3xR or 2xR.

I find Quatre x Relena... Someone said peas and carrots. Maybe mashed up in a baby food jar.... He seems relegated to being Relena's shoulder to cry on after she's been / feels rejected by Heero. There was a phase where a number of 4xR fics cropped up. It was probably 2nd in popularity to 2xR until 3xR started appearing. I suspect it lost its luster when people realized there was really only one storyline for 4xR (Heero didn't return to her/ didn't return her affection / died; Quatre helps her get over Heero). Quatre does have a great deal of respect for Relena by all canon accounts. Personally, I think he'd prefer her to be with Heero, though, unless the story was AU.

I think the reason that 3xR is so popular on this site is because it's popular with the forum creator (Silent Moon Sphinx), and the site...um...Warlord (me) - well, in a way...with me, but...Er. ANYWAY. People get ideas from reading. And this is an atmosphere where people will encourage 3xR. I don't think it's for any other reason than that. Except maybe Wicked's obsession with all things Trowa. ^__~

Nothing, the title just caught my attention, and I thought about the fanfic I made, and it just made me bring it up, since the thread is about an alternate pairing.

Visually, Trowa and Relena are a great couple together. His quiet demeanor would compliment her kindness and caring for others around her. Trowa acknowledges the feelings and emotions he can feel so that's a big plus.

The couple, to me, just seems to fit. I mean, if it had been Trowa who crash landed by the beach instead of Heero, Relena would absolutely be attached to Trowa right away (not taking into account that had she not, there would be no story, thus no GW! LOL)

And if you want to stick with the series....well, absence makes the heart grow fonder!

I'll have to disagree with you on whether or not had it been Trowa who crashlanded on the beach that Relena would have fallen for him (instead of Heero). Relena had 'met' Heero before he crashlanded on the beach. That's how he knew where to find her - and where to sit when instructed to sit "next to Relena" in episode 1. It's in her episode zero. There's a faulty translation running about that neither Relena nor Heero remembered meeting at St. Gabriel's before. That's not the case in the official English translation. And in the Episode Zero "Operation Meteor", Heero is given the choice whether or not to kill Mr. Darlian himself or save the man from being killed (by another assassin). Meanwhile, Heero's staring at Relena, and she glances up in his direction.

The road to their attraction / attachment started before the crashlanding.

I probably would have merely added my own bias toward Trowa is all. Kukukuku....

I think Trowa is a really and versatile character; unlike Quatre and Duo who are as you see them, Trowa is someone who can pull you into different directions plot-wise. It's really interesting seeing what you can do with his character since he wasn't really developed as a person in the series. You didn't see much of him, we don't know much of his personality and the depthness of his character.

I think Andrea correctly identifies the appeal of using Trowa. He has some similarities to Heero but the lack of development in the series offers more scope to writers with less worry about OOCness. OTOH, in response to the person who mentioned about if Trowa had been the one to wash up on the beach instead of Heero, Trowa doesn't represent the same dramatic challenges. I think that much of the fascination that Relena feels for Heero is because she senses something within him at variance with his apparent cold manner. Trowa is as quiet as Heero, but there isn't the same sense of discovery.

Good point, Rosa. I remember that Epizode Zero.

But that was when Heero and Relena were both very young. Sure, Relena would probably remember that myterious boy but I don't think that would prevent her from pursuing Trowa (if he had been the one to crashland). I would think that Trowa would be just as myterious to her as the young Heero was, and that the memory of the encounter with that little boy in the past would fuel Relena's curiosity and fire to pursue Trowa.
