So why Relena and Trowa?

Okay this is not a relena/trowa bashing thread so if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. I was just wondering why out of all the alternative couples relena/trowa seem the most popular. I don't have anything against this pairing, but I?m not even sure that Trowa really met Relena in the series. I just figured that people would be more likely to put her with Duo or Quatra. So why Relena and Trowa?

Well, I for one, have written only one 3xR fic and it's set in an alternate universe. It would be entertaining and very interesting to see how a write would arrange their meeting and develop their relationship seeing as they really didn't interact much in the series.

I think Trowa is a really and versatile character; unlike Quatre and Duo who are as you see them, Trowa is someone who can pull you into different directions plot-wise. It's really interesting seeing what you can do with his character since he wasn't really developed as a person in the series. You didn't see much of him, we don't know much of his personality and the depthness of his character. On the other hand, Duo is... well, Duo. Quatre is somewhat easier to write, though I've read really complicated plots where Quatre's developed in a total different, canon way. It's really amazing what writers can do.

As for the pairing; I don't really see canon-Quatre and Relena, they just don't work, at least in my opinion. Quatre's too soft minded, too soft mannered to be with Relena who's basically the same. It would seem boring. And Duo... Dunno. I've read a few dark fics centering on Duo and Relena as they're very realistic, yet they're not really honest to the series. Duo's just too... hyper. Dunno. I never liked Duo too much.

Why Trowa and Relena?

1) Why not Trowa and Relena? Alternatives is for any which couple and switching as per any author's desire

2) Trowa's hot and available

3) Relena is GW's most eligible bachelorette

4) Trowa is quiet and has so many layers to him, while Relena has much to say, and hides nothing about herself. In terms of chemistry, they can share some valance electrons. The compatibility is very high

5) I think Trowa's somewhat similar to Heero, in some characteristics, so pairing him with Relena could make sense in that manner.

6) Relena & Duo: yes, very compatible, but I think that there would be a "fire" lacking between them. Relena has this huge capacity for emotion and rapture, and a quiet guy --- like Trowa --- can very easily and convincingly fuel that (considering the author's talent).

7) Quatre is a fabu choice also. After I read a few fics where Heero--or anyone--is all callous to Relena, I turn to QxR fics because he's just such a decent guy, and AWARE of cultural norms and mores dictating that a gentleman must be chivalrous to a lady. Quatre is the choicest guy for a harmonic interaction. He's the nice guy, but no less an 'it' factor for his sincerity and sensitivity. Relena and Quatre work like peas and carrots.

But Trowa....ah, Trowa. Trowa's also sincere and sensitive. And he seems like the type that's not searching for anything--he's content; steady in his life. Whereas Relena is continuously striving, and to have a companion that's not needing to forge his own path or find himself give her support and love is very beneficial and compatible with a busybody career woman. (Perhaps Quatre & Duo are seen as individuals that are still searching for themselves, or things along that line, and that's not really Relena's choice. She needs a strong and very assured mate, and Trowa certainly emanates that)

9) Trowa and Relena just have a steamier chemistry. But that could be due to very good authors that write about T & R and don't beef up any other couples' hotness.

10) Trowa and Relena. They work.

11) Quatre or Duo x Relena wouldn't NOT work, but Trowa just comes to the fore when matching a fox with Relena.

Sorry but I must step in on this one. Save for #5 and #8 your choices are personal and/or lame plus could easily be filled by the more canon Heero. This thread is to show what could make the TrowaxRelena pairing actually work.

There's no need to fight over something as trivial as anime, guys.

Personally, and I understand both your points of view, I think that writing whichever pair is the writer's own, personal choice. Writing whatever thing (plot) is the writer's sole choice.

How they make it work, that's the objective. If you can make Trowa and Relena work in whichever scenario and make them look genuine, without threatening their canon personalities, then you've hit the jackpot.

This is what this thread is about. So I think we're all kinda on topic here.

This should be a place for persons to post their honest thoughts and try and offer support to those thoughts, and it is demeaning and bad-mannered for anyone to make anyone else feel their viewpoints are worthless, stupid, lame, or unrealistic.
