Write Back Soon
Chapter One
It had been a lifetime. The distant sun had circled the red, going green, planet countless times, each day longer than the last. He had stopped counting days, as the concept was different in the place where he was, and the place where he wanted to be.
It had been 2 technical years on Mars. Four years for Earth.
Heero lay back in his cot, an arm pulled up over his eyes, his palm curled, fingers pressed into the heel of his hand. Just outside his window lay the reason for his presence, and the fruits of the pilot?s labors ? a blue-green field of a thick, ground obscuring plant. It was an algae-grass hybrid, constituting the terraforming project Earth had sent them out to oversee and protect. Although both Wufei and Quatra had returned to Earth several times over the years; Quatra to check up on and enact his business, and Wufei for reasons unknown, neither Duo nor Heero had set foot off of the red planet.
A hand rose to grip dark brown hair, moss green eyes shutting. His thought?s were unusually cluttered and unfocused, an unheard of problem for the usually clear-headed and narrow-minded pilot. Although unaware of his own problems, it would not be hard to guess the reasons for his unrest.
Although Heero had not once set communiqu? back to Earth, he had received countless letters over the years. One letter, sent once every month, from the Vice Foreign Minister, herself.
At first the letters had been light, cheerful. Occasionally revealing little, minuscule complaints about her job?s requirements, but usually expressing her wishes. What she wanted to do with Heero once he returned, where they should go, and how much she wanted him to return. Heero never replied. Not once. But the letters continued to come, each one as cheerful as the next. As time drew on, however, the letters became dimmer, and shorter. Until finally the letters were only measured a paragraph or two in length, all ending the same way.
?Heero, I hope you are doing well. Write back soon,?
That is, however, until that day. It was the 23 of July on Earth, and on Mars it was three days after Heero customarily received his letter. However, no letter had yet come. Heero, very aware of the letters absence, still was ignorant about why he could not calm his scattered mind. He couldn?t eat, sleep, or even think, thoughts of the letter that never came dominating his thoughts.
At first he assumed the worst. Was she hurt? Was she in trouble or in danger? But even before he had these suspicions belayed by his on Earth sources, his wandering, wondering mind had shifted. A surprisingly more troubling thought crossed his mind. Did she stop because?she no longer cares? The dim-eyed pilot was uncomfortable with the depressed feeling this thought caused within him, and instead chose to blame this on to much time spent on a planet not his own. Homesickness ? a perfectly legitimate condition. Even one such as himself can experience such a thing, from time to time.
But his thoughts turned again?Where is the letter?
The door to the room slammed open, and Heero jerked upwards, now pulled into a seated position on the cot. He stared with a placid, flat-eyed expression towards the door, his bland expression turning into a frown.
Leaning against the doorframe rested a long-haired, braided brunette, clothed all in black, with a wide smile upon his handsome, but boyish face. He laughed when his deep blue gaze met Heero?s, arms crossed over his chest. ?You should see your face! Sorry, Heero. No letters today,? he said, stepping into the room. Heero laid back down on the bed, pulling his gaze up to the ceiling as Duo walked towards him, stopping at the foot of the Wing? pilot?s bed.
?I don?t know what you?re talking about,? Heero replied blandly, his baritone voice expressionless. Duo laughed again, smacking Heero sharply on the leg.
?You have to be joking. I know you don?t think even I am that stupid. You have been pacing around the dock for the last three days waiting on that little love letter from her, and you jump up every time someone opens the door. You are heartsick at the thought of not receiving it, aren?t you?? Duo finished with passion, throwing both his hands to cover his heart. ?Ah, to be in love-?
?Shut the hell up,? Heero instructed, his voice still an unreadable monotone. Duo simply smiled, dropping his hands down to his hips.
?You know, maybe if you had written back to her at least once, you might have a reason to be all upset. What did you expect? Her to just keep pining after you forever?? Duo yawned, leaning back his shoulders to pop his back. ?You really are a dunce,?
Heero remained silent, his gaze still trained on the ceiling above him. Despite his habit of ignoring Duo?s comments, this last one stuck. Written her back? What the hell could he have said in return? ?Dear Relena, the algae is growing as expected. Yuy.? Not a very interesting or important read.
?Maybe?s she?s found a new robot-man toy,? Duo continued, raising a hand to his chin as if in deep thought. Heero tensed slightly, not enough, he had thought, to be noticed. Apparently he underestimated Duo?s awareness.
The ponytailed male laughed, dropping to sit at the foot of Heero?s bed. ?Ha! I saw that! Look, if you are so concerned about the letter, why not just use the Com-screen to call her? I am sure she would be dying to answer a call from you,?
Heero stilled a moment, before pulling back the hand in his hair, dropping it to lay just above his head. A foot was pulled up, his knee bent. ?What if something has happened to Earth? It?s our job to protect Earth and the colonies, and maybe-?
?Earth is fine, you fool,? Duo cut him off, lowering a brow. ?You can see it right out the damn window. You are worried about not getting that letter. About her. You might as well admit it. Man, if I had a total babe like Relena, I wouldn?t just be sending her letters, I?d be slipping her the -Arg!? Heero had raised his foot, throwing it forward to hit Duo square in the chest. The brunette grunted and fell back off the bed, raising a hand to clutch at his injury.
?God dammit Heero!? He growled, moving to stand, still rubbing his pectoral. ?Fine, if you are going to be a baby about this I will let you, but both you and I know you are going crazy thinking about Relena,? And with a bit of flared drama, he stomped out of the room, swinging the door shut behind him.
Heero went back to listening to the dead quiet of his room, his thoughts still clouded and confusing. Narrowing his eyes at no one in particular, he reached back towards the chest of drawers next to his bed. Feeling around, he grabbed up a bottle of pills. Never having before needed sleeping pills in his life, Heero had requisitioned some from the Medical Center, and now dropped two into his palm. A second later he popped them at the same time into his mouth, and turned onto his side. It worked faster than expected, and just as his mind once again reeled around thoughts of a letter, he faded into unconsciousness.
Sweated glistened upon her skin, reflecting in the moonlight gently reaching across the room. She lay under him, her long dark blonde hair splayed against her pillow, her face flushed.
?Take me,? she whispered.
Even in the darkness he could see her perfectly. The paleness of her skin, the flatness of her stomach. The small mounds of her breasts, glistening with that same sweat. The miniscule, but unbearably tempting curve of those rounded lips.
The man lowered down, his mouth pressing down onto her neck as a hand reached around, gripping her back as he pulled her upwards, curving her body, pulling her onto him. A moan escaped her lips, her violet eyes opening wide.
?Duo!? she cried, her back arching.
Heero jumped upwards, his wide-eyed gaze meeting the dark room. His entire body was drenched in a cold sweat; his sheet lay tangled in his legs, pushed down to the end of the cot. Bringing a hand up to his forehead, Heero slowed his rushed breathing. His dream?no, his nightmare continued to repeat itself inside his mind. Relena, so beautiful?so open?with Duo?! Heero instantly heated, the palm pressed against the cot to steady himself balling into a fist.
He only remained upon the cot another moment before yanking off the tangled sheet and standing. His calculating mind had already chosen his next action. He was leaving for Earth, immediately. As he moved through the room, however, he suddenly became aware of another sensation. The tight feeling of his pants against his ?arousal. Swearing, Heero turned, aiming his steps instead towards the bathroom.
Cold shower first, then he would leave.

I'm surprised, Heero. You really turn up in the most unexpected places. -- Duo

Why drink one cup of coffee with Heero, when you can drink two cups of coffee with Trowa and Heero???
