Chapter Three
Mrs. Johnson looked up to see who was coming towards her. When Relena walked into the kitchen she realized that Relena had unshed tears in her eyes.
?Oh dear.?
Mrs. Johnson walked up to Relena and took her in her arms. Once there Relena let the tears fall.
?Why? Why is he so cruel to me??
?But dear, you said that he was always cruel to you.?
?Not like that. He would keep everyone at a distance from him, but he never said that he didn?t want me to be anywhere near him.?
?Well maybe that?s why he was injured.?
Relena pulled away and looked into Mrs. Johnson?s eyes. What she saw was understanding and was confident in asking her question. ?What should I do now? I can?t just leave him, but if I?m around he could get worse just because he?s too focused on me being here.?
?No you can?t just leave him. Sit down dear.?
Relena circled the island that was in the middle of the kitchen to the side that had stools. Relena knew Mrs. Johnson could help her. No matter what happened in the past she was always able to give her advice that would always work. Relena only confided in her and Pagen. Those where the only two people she knew would tell her what she actually needed to do, and not say what they thought she wanted to hear or what would benefit themselves the best.
But Pagen was on vacation now, so she couldn?t go to both of them. She only had Mrs. Johnson now. She was the only hope the Relena had to keep a hold on Heero, to somehow get close to him. Though Relena feared that Mrs. Johnson would tell her to leave Heero in her past she had to take a chance on it, on him.
?Now,? Mrs. Johnson started on the other side of the island facing Relena, ?I?m going to tell you what you need to do. Right now the young man doesn?t understand why you care so much. From what you told me he isn?t used to a person caring for him or about him. Right now this is foreign land, especially from the opposite sex. He probably think there has to be a motive behind this whole thing. Or his fever is starting to make him hallucinate.?
Relena smiled a little at the off-handed joke. Mrs. Johnson continued.
?You can?t expect him to jump when you want him to or be grateful when you want him to. He may never say ?thank you? that much but something tells me he shows it. You must focus on the nonverbal comments he makes to understand him I believe. You focus on the outside expressions and comments to tell you what he feels when that will not work. Be patient and he will understand. Be patient and you will get what you want.?
?Do you really think so??
?Yes. Now exactly what is it do you want from him??
?Pretty much what you said. I have to go.? Relena moved off of her stool and walked doors the double doors that exited to the porch. ?I need to think about what you said. I will be back by dinner. I?m just going to walk around the garden. Thank you Ann Marie.?
Mrs. Johnson sighed. Relena only used her first name when there was something else that was bothering her. Something that she could not solve.
At that point Mrs. Johnson realized why Relena had been depressed lately. Relena never fully got over the fallen angel she called Heero. Relena was still in love with him, and his comments would always hit her heart no matter what.
But as Mrs. Johnson began her daily tasks she wondered: Was Heero cruel to Relena because he loved her too?
~*~*~
Relena woke to a weird sound. She looked around her room to find the source but saw nothing. But the sound continued. She strained to figure out where it was coming from. She gets out of the bed, realizing that it?s coming from the room next to her, the one Heero is currently in. She put on her robe and rushed into his room.
Once she was inside she saw Heero twisted in his sheets, the white of the sheets giving a eerie look to him with the moonlight. He was coughing profoundly, tossing and turning back and forth. Sweat was coming down his face like salty rain. Relena goes to the bed and places her hand on his head. His fever had gotten worst. His anger caused everyone to stay away from him for a short time until he calmed down, but because of his pride and refusal to take the help that was offered he had gotten worst.
Relena turned to the nightstand next to the bed. Opening the draw that contained the medicine that was needed for him she started to pour the liquid in the small cup. She grabbed Heero?s head and cuddled it against her body. ?Heero take this. It will make you feel better. Drink it.?
Heero opened his mouth. But as soon as the taste of the medicine hit his tongue he closed it again. He may have felt terrible but he still knew when something tasted awful. Heero turned his head around, almost acting like a little kid. ?Heero you have to take this. If you don?t it?s going to get worst. And then?? She couldn?t think about the fact that a simple cold could get worse and may cause him to go to the hospital. She just wanted him to get better. ?Drink!?
Finally Heero drank all that was in the small cup. Relena got up from the bed and headed to the bathroom. Heero heard water running but didn?t know what Relena was doing. He wasn?t really sure if Relena was really there or if he was being delusional and gave himself the bitter medicine.
Relena walked out of the bathroom with a cloth in her hand. The water from the bathroom was not cold enough to help Heero. She left the room for a few minutes. When she came back she had a bowl with water and ice in it. She sat down the bowl and sat on the bed. Placing the cloth in the ice cold water she ringed out the extra water and patted it around Heero?s head. Once she finished that she placed it on top of his head hoping it would help with the fever. She had done her part in helping and now she would leave like she thought he wanted until she felt him grab her arm.
?Wait. Stay.?
She sat back on the bed and held Heero. He was still sweating some and shaking a little. All she wanted to do was make him comfortable.
?I?m sorry.?
Relena eyes opened in shock. She couldn?t of heard what she thought she heard, could she? ?What??
?I?m sorry.?
?Why? For what??
?For being an idiot.? Heero looked up at Relena. His cobalt eyes shined bright and made Relena have to shift from his gaze. ?You were helping me and I stopped it. Because of that I?m worse now.? Heero laid his head back down and closed his eyes. ?I won?t leave, I can?t now anyway. I?ll stay.?
Relena had to take a deep breathe. This was what she wanted, but she wasn?t sure if something else was making him say it. ?Heero, do you really mean it? Or is this a trick from you??
Heero moved his head. ?You?re very comfortable.?
?What?? Heero saying that he was sorry and now telling her that she was comfortable made Relena confused and happy. ?Maybe he should always have a fever.?
?Heero??
?Shhh. I hear music.?
?Music??
?Mmhmm.? With that Heero fell asleep. Relena sighed. He was out of it when he said all of those things. He probably wouldn?t even remember he even said it. Relena looked at the handsome man sleeping in her arms. She wanted one dream to come true. She lower her head, hovered over Heero mouth, and then kissed him while he slept.
Raising her head again she moved off of the bed and left the room.
