It was early morning and there was a fresh smell lingering in the air that was caused by the downpour throughout the night. Droplets of water sparkled and hung to the corners of every leaf before they fell with a soft tinkle to the ground. The birds were singing gracefully, the sun hummed, rainbows were painted across the sky?
?Well I hope you?re proud of yourselves! Get caught in the rain and this is what happens.?
Relena crossed her arms and looked angrily at the two sniffling figures standing before her. There was a moment of silence and then they both sneezed simultaneously into their tissues. Relena immediately started again.
?Look at the state of you two! You?re not going anywhere today; you?ll stay home and rest.?
Heero Yuy stood straight and tried, for all the world, to look like he was perfectly all right. His nose was red though and the light in his eyes was dim, making him look sick and weary. Despite this, he still gave his wife a levelled look and managed to say in his monotonous voice that sounded slightly nasally, ?I?m not sick.?
Relena looked at him, her lips parted in shock. ?Heero, you?re clearly sick, you look sick.?
Heero set his jaw stubbornly, ?I?m fine.?
Relena sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
?Mummy I don?t feel good.?
Relena stared down at the little girl who was clutching her daddy?s trousers and staring out from between his legs. Ayame Yuy had Prussian blue eyes; so unlike Heero?s in that they were always softened to reveal the innocence of a young child. Relena knelt down and brushed away the girl?s blond bangs which lay messily over her eyes.
?You just need to rest sweetie. Don?t worry; I?ll take care of you.?
?And daddy too??
Relena smiled, ?Yes and daddy too.?
Heero glared and looked as if he was about to say something when Ayame sneezed loudly and sniffled piteously. She rubbed her eyes irritably and Relena tutted, taking her into her arms. Ayame wound her arms around Relena?s neck and rested her flushed face on her shoulder, closing her eyes.
Heero looked at her with concern on his face but Relena shook her head reassuringly, ?She?ll be all right, she just needs some medicine and then rest.? Heero nodded and followed as Relena walked to Ayame?s room and laid her on the bed, covering her with the sheets. Ayame snuggled up and opened her eyes.
?Are we going to play nurse??
Relena kissed her on the cheek, ?Yes, just like we always do.?
She turned away and came face to face with Heero who was standing behind her. He looked quite miserable and Relena?s heart went out to him. It wasn?t usual for Heero to get sick like this; it was the first time actually. They had been having such terrible weather all of a sudden and a little shower yesterday evening had turned into a torrent causing father and daughter to rush home from Duo?s dripping wet.
Relena suddenly noticed that Heero was wearing his Preventer uniform, she looked at him aghast. ?Heero you?re not thinking of going to work are you??
Heero looked at her blankly, ?Why not??
Relena gave him an exasperated look, ?You?re sick!?
?I?m not sick.?
Relena frowned, ?You are sick?? She reached for his arm and gasped. She put a hand to his head as he looked at her quizzically. ?You?re hot,? She said anxiously, ?You have a fever Heero. You really need rest.?
Heero had, after all, draped his jacket over Ayame?s head to protect her from the rain and had ended up bearing the brunt of it.
Heero sneezed but then shrugged it off, trying to give the appearance that he was perfectly all right. ?I?ll be fine,? He assured her.
?Heero call in sick?please?? Relena?s soft blue eyes pleaded with him. He avoided her stare and was about to argue when Ayame called out from behind them sleepily.
?Mummy??
Relena turned back to the bed and gently stroked Ayame?s hair, ?Shh, I?ll just go get you some medicine okay??
Ayame nodded, ?Kay.?
Relena turned to Heero and jabbed a finger at him, ?Don?t go anywhere until I come back.? And she walked out the room.
Heero walked over to Ayame and knelt down beside her. She clutched the sheets and looked at him with a small smile. He reached out and brushed her cheek softly, ?You shouldn?t have gotten sick. It?s my fault, I?m sorry.?
Ayame giggled, ?Its okay? I like being mummy?s patient.?
Heero raised an eyebrow, ?Patient??
?You never get sick daddy so you don?t play.? Ayame smiled, ?But now mummy can play with you too!?
Heero grumbled under his breath, ?I?m not sick.?
Ayame giggled again but more faintly this time, ?Yes you are!?
Heero?s eyed softened as he watched her, ?Okay maybe a little,? He admitted.
Ayame beamed, ?When I get sick, mummy puts me to bed and tucks me in tight. She cuddles me and sings really nice. Sometimes when I feel sad she kisses me all better.?
Heero raised his eyebrow at the thought of Relena looking after him like that?it sounded rather interesting and the prospect of staying home and getting the ?nurse? treatment didn?t seem so bad all of a sudden.
?What else does she do?? He said interested.
Ayame closed her eyes again sleepily, ?When I?m feeling too hot mummy gives me a sponge bath?but I?m not feeling hot this time.?
Heero abruptly stood up and reached for his cell phone. He pressed a few buttons and waited for someone on the other end to pick up.
?Yello??
?Duo, tell Une I?m not coming in today.?
?What? Why??
?I?m sick??
??
You?re kidding right??
?No.?
?You never get sick.?
?Ayame?s sick too. Blame it on the rain yesterday.?
?You sound as if you?re sick but I dunno?you?re not playing hooky are you??
?Duo?? Heero growled warningly.
?Hey I do it all the time.? His voice lowered to a whisper, ?The idea is to act really sick and then not only do you get off work but you get pampered like a baby at home.? He sighed wistfully. Heero suddenly sneezed.
?Geez you really are ill aren?t you??
?Will you tell Une or not?? Heero demanded.
?All right all right. Sheesh! Take it easy pal or you?ll over exert yourself.?
?Thanks,? Heero mumbled feeling doubly tired from just talking to the braided pilot. At that moment, Relena walked back in with the medicine. She lifted Ayame up enough to feed her a spoonful. Heero watched his daughter grimace and hoped Relena wouldn?t give him anything like that. After Ayame had been wrapped up and tucked in, Relena and Heero left her to sleep in peace.
When they entered their bedroom at the end of the corridor, Heero decided to take Duo?s advice. He sank onto the bed heavily with a groan. Relena went over to him worried, ?Heero??
?I?m sick?? Heero stated bluntly.
Relena?s eyes widened, ?Oh my God, it must be worse than I thought.?
Heero was confused by her reaction, ?What???
She frowned at him, ?You would never admit it unless it was really bad. You have to call at once to say you?re not coming in.?
?I already have?? Heero mumbled.
Relena smiled in surprise. ?Good, now take off your clothes and get in bed,? She demanded. Heero inwardly jumped for joy but maintained a blank expression as he complied till he was only clad in his boxers and had pulled a plain T-shirt over his head. After he slipped between the covers, Relena sat beside him and cupped his face in her hands.
?Oh, you?re hotter than before! Maybe we should call Sally??
Was that his fever rising or something else entirely? Heero wondered to himself?the feel of Relena against him made him realise how hot his skin really was, and how nicely cool her body felt.
His thoughts were broken as he grabbed his tissue and sneezed.
Relena brushed a hand through his hair sympathetically, ?You know what you need??
A sponge bath? Heero thought hopefully.
?Some cold medicine!? Relena produced the bottle and waved it in front of him. Heero groaned inwardly. She placed it on the stand and stood up, ?Well??
He crossed his arms, ?I?m not taking any medicine.? Hell no, he was the perfect soldier and damn well didn?t need any.
Relena gave him a cute pout, ?It?ll help you get better quickly.?
Heero glared at her, she was turning the game on him and he was not going to be won over. He sank back in bed and closed his eyes, ?No,? He said determinedly. He was pleasantly jolted when he felt Relena?s body slide across his and opened his eyes. She was leaning across him and gathering the sheets around to tuck him in. He raised an eyebrow at her.
?Well if you don?t want it then I can?t make you,? She said with a sad look. ?I mean, you?re not a kid so you know what?s best for you.? She turned away but he caught her wrist and sat up.
?Okay fine,? He crossed his arms in defeat and Relena?s eyes twinkled in victory. She poured some out and held it out. Heero eyed the brown liquid dubiously but he opened his mouth and swallowed the sick tasting fluid down.
?I feel worse,? He grumbled.
Relena waggled the spoon at him, ?Stop complaining, it?s for your own good.?
Heero threw the covers aside and pulled her into bed with him. She yelped as he pinned her beneath him and started trailing kisses along her jaw and earlobe, whispering huskily, ?I know something else I need that?s for my own good.?
Relena pushed at his chest and gasped as he nuzzled hers, ?Heero you?re not well! This is hardly the time for?this!? She glared at him. ?I hope you realise that you?ve probably given me whatever you have.?
Heero smirked, ?We can be sick together.?
?This isn?t funny,? Relena said annoyed and gasped again as he pressed himself to her and kissed her neck. ?And you?re really hot!?
?Thanks,? Heero murmured, his lips pressed against her skin.
?That?s not what I meant,? She gritted out.
Heero lifted himself and looked at her thoughtfully, ?I know what would help??
?What?? Relena said breathlessly.
?A sponge bath,? A mischievous gleam entered his eyes.
?A sponge bath?? Relena repeated curiously. Heero pressed his hot forehead against hers, ?Hn, I hear you administer them specially.?
Relena raised her brows in realisation, ?Ayame told you? Well, that treatment is for good patients and you?re?? His hand slid under her blouse, caressed her stomach upwards and caused her to moan when he cupped her breast, ??A good patient!?
Heero pulled away and released her. Relena sat up breathing heavily and he grinned at her in an infuriating manner. She tossed her head and got up, ?Well come on then,? She gave him a sultry look which had him scrambling out of bed. She smirked to herself, Sponge bath eh? He doesn?t know what he?s getting himself into.
And Heero was also smirking quietly to himself; Maybe I should get sick more often.

A/N: The situation where Relena has to look after a sick Heero is probably not new (I don't know) and I'm sure there could be lots of different situations. I know it's a little long for a round robin but maybe someone could continue or write something better? Let me know what you think!
