No Ornaments [One-shot. Rated teen for angst and innuendo]
For Andrea Sinisterra.

No Ornaments
By Nessie
Carpet, normally soft under feet, was currently rough and scratchy under her back. Or was that, wondered Relena, because she had a six-foot-three ex-Gundam pilot on top of her, pushing her down so that she could feel the flat floor push against the angles of her body, and with each wild thrust came a brief dig of shoulder blade into covered wooden floor.
She finished first, gasping, clawing at the naked flesh on his gleaming back, and he followed right behind her by buying his face in her shoulders and collapsing. He inhaled once before rolling to the side, carefully bringing her close to his chest.
Relena took deep breaths, watching as the bulbs in the green tree three feet away from them changed colors every couple of seconds. She smiled at the simple display of lights; there were no ornaments to crowd the pleasantness and make things complicated. ?I was right about the Christmas tree. It is a nice touch.?
He grunted out an acknowledgement, more conscious of the way the lights played on her skin rather than in the boughs of his tree. ?You have one at home ? bigger. More decorated. Why did you want one here too??
She knew better than to think he question was anything more than just that ? a question ? but she felt a little snubbed by it. ?For the same reason I didn?t stay home tonight. You?re not there, Heero.?
His hand stroked a long line back and forth over the curve of her hip as she tucked one leg up. His eyes would be narrowed, she knew without looking, and he would be thinking of who she did have at home. ?What did you tell him??
Relena sat up, feeling his eyes on her, on the fall of long, golden hair that reached down to tangle itself in his hand. She stared at the glowing, plastic star on the very top of the Christmas tree, recalling a time when she had mistook a weapon of mass destruction for a meteor. And the boy inside it who had become a man, and now held her in the darkest hour of Christmas Eve.
?I told him I had business.? A smile, this one without any merriment, touched her lips as her eyes went hazy. ?It didn?t matter. He has some too. He doesn?t really like holidays.?
?Did he tell you that?? A note of danger entered Heero?s voice. He had never liked Relena?s husband, never even so much as approved of him.
She hurried to extinguish any potential temper by trying to affect a casual tone, but it didn?t stick. ?He wouldn?t help me host my Christmas party. His friends too, not just mine. He went out and came back drunk after everyone was gone.? One of her fists bunched on the carpet. She could think of men, and then she could think of men, like Heero, who whether or not they liked it, would help. With anyone. With everything. Who could be happy and laugh from time to time and make love on a carpet in front of a Christmas tree, who didn?t mind giving her some alone time to finish up work or letting her sleep after political functions. Who didn?t need ornaments in their life and who knew, constantly knew?
?Relena??
She turned back, taking face between her hands where both their hearts already were, and watched his eyes. All thoughts of her husband vanished from her mind. ?I love you,? she murmured, knowing she belonged with him?and know it was too late.
When she kissed him, Heero held her tightly to symbolize the words he couldn?t say, and this time it was his back on the carpet.
?Merry Christmas, Relena.?
The End

I like the situation--that it's Christmas-themed, and that they're gettin' down right under the Christmas tree....that's....that's uh, quite a present!! >.> ^^;;; Their circumstances suck, though.
And yes, that does seem like quite a familiar tone...where have I seen that before...? Hmmmm...

ZOMG!!!! My computer at home crashed beyond repair and I've been wandering around in a daze, biting my nails because I just HAD to review this!!
You're the bestest partner in crime any criminal could ever want, your spectacular writing skills never cease to amaze me and I'm SO, SO lucky to have this dedicated to me. Oh, yay, I feel so fuzzy. Cuddle me.
Call me morbid or whatever, but I love romantic angst, especially if it's themed (Xmas, V-day, etc.) Makes me all warm inside.
I
you.

*zaps GG with the cattle prod of doom*
*glares at Andrea* You put her up to this. Don't think I couldn't tell....
Andrea: Isn't the cattle prod a little out dated and--
Rose: Still charged and itching to prod?
Andrea: Uh. Heh. heh. heh. *backs away*
ANYWAY. Nice story, if too angsty. One comment my dear, and beware the too many adjectives in a sentence. It's preventing your story from flowing.
"Relena took deep breaths, watching as the bulbs in the green tree three feet away from them changed colors every couple of seconds."
What color would a tree be if not green? And it's also a bit too angsty.
I also have always had and probably always will have issues with adultery/affairs. Even in fiction. Even when the affair is my favorite couple together. But that has no bearing on you or your writing, my dear GG. And it's a bit too angsty. That, I believe is ANDREA's doing.
*glares at Andrea*
Ooooooh, I think I'm gonna do the Church of Lemons this year. Since apparently the heathens continue to be heathens.
And must be purified.
*hugs GG*
PS - Did I mention the fic is too angsty?
