Chapter 12
Sesshoumaru: Tenshi
Part 1
::
"Goodnight, Rin." The tall lady kissed the child good night on the small bed.
"Goodnight," the little girl whispered with a smile, fluttering her thick eyelashes before settling into a sleep. She had been tired; today was their field trip to see a toy factory. Fantasies about countless stuffed-toys and candies, her dreams already began.
"Lights out," the nun announced, turning the switch off. She breathed a prayer to the children and soundlessly left the dormitory. As the night progressed, the children stirred within their dream worlds, kicking blankets from their bodies and tossing pillows to the floor. The witching hour has arrived and the air has stilled and all that occupied the orphanage was beautiful serene sleep.
Long before the light had gone out, a creature stood at bay waiting and now from the darkness formed a tall magnificence. He floated outside her window, his wings making slow flaps so as not to make a sound to disturb the silence around the place. His figure was almost blinding, had he been what he was, but now he was just as good as the moon -just glowing, distinguished from the darkness that surrounded him.
His amber eyes that were always stoic now gleamed with familiar affection as he peered through the glass window that separated him from her. She -this child, human girl, Rin. His stern features almost softened as he gazed and had the Demon Lord been here to see him, he would have been punished for loving her as well.
As the girl slept peacefully, without knowledge that she was being stared at, the world did not know that the Head Demon, Sesshoumaru was having a fight against himself. The temptation was great -to appear beside her, gather her in his arms and take her away. But to touch her now would be wrong. Though it was no longer a sin, he could not bare to lay an evil finger upon her innocent soul. He knew that this life was her chance, her new beginning. He could not, would never waste the chance given to her by the Maker. He simply could not bare it.
The demon closed his eyes and yet, the vision of her as she slept did not cease to appear in his mind. His chest ached with familiar possible angelic emotion and at the memory of what this girl had been to him almost brought tears in his eyes.
"Rin?" he mouthed into the still air, always loving the bittersweet sound of her name on her ear. "Rin?" he breathed, as a wave of memories hit his being.

It was probably a big mistake to have stopped from his area surveillance to make sure if the village miko was not under any harm, but then, Sesshoumaru knew only his mission of service to the people -the apple of God's eye. Though the villagers said that she had gone missing for more than two hours -far too long than her usual break, Sesshoumaru knew that a miko could handle any harm that could come her way. The town was quite in chaos trying to find her and if he had not pass by the town, he probably wouldn?t have been aware that she was 'missing.' So he flew swiftly through the forest, far away from the comforts of the village and tried to find clues that would lead to her.
Sesshoumaru did not know much about this miko. He knew for a fact that she was not an angel in disguise nor a human with special celestial powers given by the Maker. She was probably just a leader's daughter who was designated to lead and give the people comfort if ever they needed it. He had not yet seen her but he heard rumors from angels around the area that the new miko was a rather 'pretty human.' All he knew right now was that a miko was supposed to be wearing a white kimono and a red hakama.
As he flew through the trees, a sudden movement from near west alerted his senses and just at once, he came to the place. After a rustle of leaves, he found the kimono and the hakama on the ground and she was there in the hot springs. He stood quite stunned behind the bushes -what was she doing this far from her people? Wasn?t she supposed to be always near them?
"Aaaaghhh!" the girl suddenly screamed, fumbling against the water in desperate need to get her hands on any of her clothing. Her face was flushed but it was not because of the hot water.
Sesshoumaru took a step back as the girl made a mess of herself right before his very eyes. He was stunned all the more because it appeared that the miko, this girl could see him. Him -a Heaven's angel.
"Go away! The villagers are going to punish you for seeing me in the nude!"
Sesshoumaru was taken aback. "This Sesshoumaru has no malice." But he turned away and then again, the miko made a loud gasp. He didn?t know she got too frightened to see his wide wings. "Are you donned with clothes already, miko?"
After a while, she muttered, "Y-yes?"
Sesshoumaru turned around. "Your people are looking for you. They are making a havoc among themselves because of your absence." He studied her perplexed face and frowned. "It seems that you have lost your way -would you be in need of any assistance to return to your village?" He wanted to ask her if she has lost her tongue as well, because the miko was staring at him, her mouth hanging open.
"You're a? tenshi? an angel?" she croaked, almost trembling.
Sesshoumaru nodded and pointed to her bow and arrows. "You should return back to town." He stepped forward and extended his arms. "Should I escort you back there?"
"I know the way," the miko exclaimed, trying hard to gather her courage. "I would not have been appointed miko if I do not know the land by heart." She bit her lower lip and lowered her gaze. "But thank you. For telling me."
"Please do not speak of our encounter to anyone," Sesshoumaru told her as he turned to leave. "The Maker should be the only heavenly symbol the people should ever know or hear about. I warn you: the people of this era will tend to worship anything they find divine."
The miko nodded respectfully.
As Sesshoumaru flapped his wings, he stopped in mid air as she called out to him, "My name is Rin! It was nice meeting you!"
Sesshoumaru just stared at her, not knowing how to respond. He had never talked with a human before.
"Goodbye-"
Sesshoumaru was about to warn her that angels' names were not allowed to be spoken by human beings but it seems that she knew it already.
"?tenshi," the miko finished, waving her hands in goodbye as she watched the glorious image of heaven flap its wings up into the sky.
As he flew against the breeze, a smile formed the great angel's wings. "Rin?"
::
He could have asked other elder angels to fulfill his itch of curiosity regarding humans but he chose to be around the miko. He spent most of his free time watching her, talking to her. He took note of how different Rin was from other human beings. She was, in his opinion, a living oxymoron; she was so human and yet? she was not. She was carefree and yet so responsible when it came to people. She, too, was brave and yet, when it came to little creatures of the earth -the girl turned out to be a coward.
At firs they talked from the distance, he sitting on top of trees while she sat on the grass. But the more they got to spend time together talking, the distance closed down to an inch. Now they sat beside each other, brushing arms and elbows, almost entwining her dark tresses with his while silver mane with the closeness. But in spite of this sheer closeness, no people could see him, only the miko and her strange time alone talking to herself.
Sesshoumaru knew she captivated him. She brought about a new air, a new life. Her endless capacity for compassion and jovial attitude affected him in such a strange way. He now watched out for her smile, a pout or a grin. He wanted to memorize her expressions and movement but he found out he could never be capable of it.
But no matter how you put it, his meetings with Rin were purely innocent with no strings attached. That was until an earth-bound creature saw them. When the sky began to darken, the miko stood up and bowed her respects to the angel.
The angel now sat alone, watched in clandestine despair as the miko strolled back to the village where she lived. He took a deep breath and did felt refreshed; another day with her was a day well spent. Before he got to unleash the luminescence of his wings, his ears caught hold of a demon's movement behind him. Instead of facing or hunting the fiend, he chose to sat still and wait for a possible attack.
The stealthy movements, the cautiousness and the faint smell of rotting corpse and blood -it reeked too much of Naraku. Naraku was the reason why he was sent to guard over the wide acres. The demon, though not that strong, was very smart. The angels who were based on the areas told him that Naraku was almost as strong as the Great Rebel, the Demon of all Demons himself, Lucifer.
"How interesting?" a deep voice rasped from the distance.
Sesshoumaru knew the voice almost like the breeze but he kept still and waited. Naraku would not outsmart him.
"An angel? talking to a human??"
"Show yourself, fiend, before I give you a taste of the Maker's wrath!" Sesshoumaru warned, his voice resounding through the trees. He stood up and revealed his wings and took a hold of his sword. After a few moments, there was no movement. Gripping his sword hard, he spoke again, "I warn you, you are in dangerous ground!"
Almost instantly, a silhouette of darkness formed from the trees. First appeared two dark eyes, two fangs. "Oooooh? I am so frightened?!" The demon laughed mockingly.
"I am not laughing, aren't I?"
"Oh I do not wish to fight with you?" the demon hissed quickly, the dark eyes sobering. "Forgive my intrusions with your affairs? I did not stay to taunt you." The figure bowed to him and slowly crept forward before the angel's feet and trembled. "I submit, angel. Deposit your sword back in its rightful place?"
Sesshoumaru raised a brow as he slid the sword back in its sheath but before the demon could leap away, his strong hand came quickly upon its neck and gave it a hard squeeze. "I will take you to the Maker for the judgement you deserve." He frowned as he noticed that the slimy texture of the demon's neck slowly changed into human skin and in a blink of an eye, he was strangling the miko. Rin.
The demon knew the sudden change of look in the demon's eyes and saw the falter there. In his miko head he turned to shoot the angel a wicked glare and did not resist the temptation of laughing at him. The demon was choking, dying but it did not stop the hissing sound of laughter that came out from its throat.
The angel quickly wagged the demon back and forth in his hand but the fiend did not shake as much, just choked, because its body had grown larger than most of its kind. In his wagging, the miko body then returned to its original demon form. "If only the Maker wanted you dead, I would not spare you your breath, fiend!"
"Very well, I ask for your forgiveness again!" the demon exclaimed, pounding its small fists against the angel's arm. "Just loosen your grip just a little bit, please!" He tried to look the angel in the eyes. "Spare me. I am, after all, one of the many Lucifer tricked into joining his forces? I too had been an angel?"
Not at once but after a while did Sesshoumaru lightened his grasp on the demon's vocal chords.
"Thank you?" the demon croaked.
The angel ignored the words of thanksgiving. He proceeded to flap his wings to ready for flight back to heaven.
As they lifted up from the ground, Sesshoumaru thought that the demon had finally quieted down but as he looked to check if the fiend was still alive, the being was staring at him with a sleazy grin on its features.
"Do you know, angel," the demon said in hushed tones. "You have a secret??"
"This Sesshoumaru keeps no secrets. The Maker knows everything about this Sesshoumaru."
"Ah? Indeed, your superior knows? but do you?"
"What is this nonsense you speak of?"
"You, angel," Naraku whispered. "Are in love with the miko."
Hearing this, the loose grip lost its firmness and the demon fell back to earth with a dark laugh.

In my opinion, everyone in The Man NEEDS to have a quote from their charactor.
?You?re all against me,? he accused, ?And I never did anything to deserve it.?
