Heero?s face went white.
He continued to shake his head, but lacked the strength to say much.
?Ca-?Caan?no?stop, I didn?t-?
?No?? Caan interrupted his pleas once more, eyes still fixed on Relena ?I don?t think you did??
It was only now that Relena actually realised the sweater she had previously been wearing had been taken off her. Her blouse was slightly unbuttoned, the white fabric almost see-through with her sweat, the black lace of her bra quite apparent from under it. She would have blushed if the situation had been different, but she could only feel her fear rise at her new felt vulnerability.
She winced, feeling tears escape as the knife at the base of her throat slowly, expertly, moved down.
?Don?t be scared, Miss Peacecraft?? She felt his hot breath on her cheek, ?if Mr. Yuy decides to co-operate, you will not be in this situation for long?? He turned back to Heero, ?isn?t that right??
Heero?s glare had returned. It invoked a small amount of hope within Relena, the familiar signs of determination showing in his dark eyes, the hatred that was emanating from within him ? he was going to get them out of this. If anyone was going to get them out of this, it would be him?and he would?he had to.
Caan drew the knife to the first button on her chemise. A look of concentration swept his features. With only a touch, it fell to the floor with a light click. Relena didn?t have the courage to defend herself. The fact was, he had a knife and she didn?t. What was she supposed to fight back with? Heero had taught her enough for her to know she didn?t have a chance. She had seen Heero fight people so many times, but he had never been in a situation like this before.
Another button fell?
Then another?
?Stop?? Heero?s voice was barely audible.
Another click?
Another?
?Stop.?
Caan paused and looked over to him. The voice that had been hardly more than a whisper before was steady now, the word he had said not just a plea, but an order. Relena didn?t want to know how much pain Heero was biting back to make it so.
?Stop?? He repeated, ?I?ll?? his eyes stared at nothing, ?I?ll tell you. Everything?? He let his head fall to his chest once more, ?Just don?t hurt her.?
Caan was silent.
He eventually turned back to Relena. The happiness that spread through his features made her want to grab his knife and release every ounce of hatred she felt for him. How could he hurt people like this and be happy?!
?Well, I?m glad to hear that, I must say?? Caan placed his slim fingers on his chin, his other hand still holding the knife, its tip poised above the last button.
?but??
The final button fell the floor, the tiny sound echoing around the bare room as if it was 100 times as loud. Relena?s blouse fell open completely, exposing her partly covered torso.
?I don?t believe what you say for a minute, Mr Yuy?? He looked Relena up and down with that disgusting smirk before turning away and walking to where Heero stood.
Heero raised his head.
?wha-? he tried to say, the previous confidence having left his voice completely.
?Don?t ?what? me! You?re not going to tell me the truth unless I show you the consequences if you don?t!? Caan shouted. His face moved not an inch away from Heero?s.
?I can feel every single lie that?s within you?? he whispered maliciously into his ear.
Slowly, Caan stepped away from him, crossing the room again. He faced Relena, but spoke as if he was still standing in front of Heero.
?I think it?s time I show you exactly how to tell the truth, since you are obviously incapable of doing so??
He smiled at Relena once more.
?My dear princess,? he gave her a mock bow, ?I am about to untie your hands??no, don?t get any ideas, I know that look? He waved his finger at her as if telling off a disobedient child, ?do not forget, your highness, that I will have a knife to your?? He put the blade to her throat, ?exquisite neck? at all times. One move and I swear you will not take another breath?are we clear?? He raised his eyebrows.
Relena had no idea why he was doing this. She did know, however, that she had more of a chance with her hands untied, but she really had no idea what to do. Should she try and take the knife? Should she just hit him a few times? Who was she kidding, she still had no chance. To fight back would only make things worse for her?and for Heero.
Slowly, she nodded. Caan reached into his pocket with his other hand and brought out another, smaller knife. One of his hands went behind her, the other still held the knife at her throat. She felt the rope being cut and wiggled her fingers as her circulation went back to normal. She didn?t dare move.
?Now?? He said, bringing one of her free hands forward, ?remove your blouse??
Relena?s head snapped up, her worst fears surfacing within her. What if he tried to?what if he was going to?
?with Heero watching.
She would rather die.
Her hands moved forward of their own accord, quickly, towards his neck. But before she could feel skin under her hands, the knife pressed harder to her throat, more blood being drawn out. She stopped.
?This is your last warning, my princess?? Caan?s smile had vanished. It had been replaced by a look of madness she had never noted he had possessed. Who was this man? How did he know Heero even had this ?code?, what was its purpose?
It was then that Relena realised she didn?t even care. The only thing that mattered was getting out of this alive. If this man was killed?it would all be over. She and Heero could escape?they?d be safe?
They had to get out. But only she could do the one thing that would let them. She had to kill Caan.
But how?
She had tried once already, and look where that had gotten her?
Her mind silently raced, trying to figure out something?anything that would work. She was brought out of her thoughts abruptly however, by a cry from the other side of the room and searing pain coming from her lower abdomen.
She looked down quickly, seeing crimson almost immediately. Her eyes squeezed shut as she saw what he?d done. A long cut had been made just above the top of her low slung jeans. Blood trickled down onto the dirty fabric.
Caan grabbed her chin and forced her face upwards, transferring scarlet smudges of her own blood onto her flawless skin. ?If you try anything like that again, that pain you are feeling now will feel pleasurable compared to what I will do to you?do you understand?? He spat at her.
She closed her eyes and nodded weakly. She was worse than dead.
?Good?now take off your shirt??
She obeyed. Without opening her eyes, feeling tears fall down her cheeks, she began to remove the filthy garment. Heero?s laboured breathing could still be heard from across the room; Relena noted how much shallower each breath was compared to before.
The material fell to the floor. Caan?s eyes feasted on the new flesh that could be seen. His demonic grin widened still and Relena saw a new emotion surface within him?
Lust.
For what? She wasn?t sure?whether it was a lust for blood, pain?or for her.
Whichever one it was, she was helpless.
Just her helpless, useless self.
*******
The knife which still hovered over her abdomen swiftly glided up to the hollow of her throat, making a shallow cut up the centre of her chest as it did so. Yet more blood seeped out from her mistreated body. Slowly, Caan brought the knife delicately up her neck and began tracing her unblemished jaw with the edge. The slight pressure was not enough to cut her, yet she still felt pain.
?There?s a good girl?that wasn?t too difficult?was it??
When Relena didn?t say or move anything, Caan sharply brought the knife to her throat once more.
?Was it...? he asked again, through gritted teeth.
Relena shook her head no. She had figured out why Caan had untied her hands now. It was so that she would feel like she could escape, even though she really had no chance; and of course, so he didn?t have to remove her clothes. He was playing with her. He was going to kill her eventually, she knew. There was no way that he?d simply let her out, only for her to tell the world who he was and what he had done.
No way.
She felt the knife move again and her head fell back against the wall. Her eyes stared blankly at the grubby ceiling. She felt the tip move slowly, slowly, down to the front fastening of her bra.
She swiftly raised her head again, her eyes instantly meeting Caan?s with a pleading stare. Don?t do this?don?t do this?please
?Don?t?? Heero?s weak voice came from across the room.
Snap.
Relena?s hands immediately moved over the newly uncovered flesh. The knife was at her throat before she could breathe again. She closed her eyes
?Take your hands away and remove the rest of the?? Caan swallowed. ??garment??
The seconds that followed were the longest Relena had ever been through. She didn?t open her eyes, she didn?t cry, she just inhaled deeply, removed her hands, along with the remainder of her bra, and placed them against the wall behind her.
?Good?now open your eyes?
Her eyes remained shut. If I can?t see it, it?s not real?if I can?t see it, it?s not-
?Open them!? He screamed.
He quickly ran the knife over the previous slash he had made down her chest, deepening the oozing wound, forcing her eyes to open in pain and shock.
?Now look at him!...Do it!?
She shook her head?she couldn?t possibly-
?do it?? Caan whispered, forming another long cut just below her exposed chest. She could hear his smile widen.
Relena winced at the pain that flashed hot through her. She had no choice.
Oh jesus?oh jesus christ??1?2?-
She thanked God that Heero was looking down. She wondered how long he had been doing so. She prayed it was from the minute the clasp was cut?she didn?t want this to be the first time he?he?
And then she remembered...
That day. That forgotten day. In her office when he told her?told her that he knew?
Without meaning to, her eyes closed at the memory. Immediately realising her mistake, they shot open again, but it was too late. A large hand gripped the back of her head, pulling a large tuft of her now knotted hair upwards. Caan?s knife had once again found its way to her throat. But even through her pain and fear she had instantly realised something?
He had put the other knife back in his pocket.
?Oh dear?is the princess a little?? Caan looked down at her chest, ?shy??
Relena wasn?t listening. The knife was in his pocket. It was in her reach. She could get it and?
Caan?s hand came up to one of her breasts.
SLAP
Caan didn?t move. Relena?s hand still hung in the air, stinging from the contact with his cheek. Heero?s head shot up. He must have thought Caan had slapped Relena, because when he saw Caan?s face turned to the side and Relena?s hand hovering past it, his face was one of utter shock. His face wasn?t the only one?
Relena shook her head in disbelief, only now realising what she had done.
?I?I didn?t-?
?Bad move??
