Relena didn?t say anything. Surely this can?t be real. They must of drugged her?she had to be imagining-
?Relena??
She gasped. She had seen him in the car?she had seen the blood. How could he possibly be
?alive?
?h?how did you-?
?Surely you don?t think a little car bomb could dispose of me?don?t you know me at all??
Another weary laugh echoed round the room.
?Y?you?re not..? she started, but broke down before she could finish. ?I just?can?t believe? you?re alive!? her words were interlaced with choked sobs. ?Heero, I?m so sorr-?
?Please don?t be sorry. You didn?t do anything?? He paused. ?Are you hurt? I only woke up a few minutes ago, and this room is too dark to make anything out properly. I can?t see you at all.? She heard him groan as he shifted his position.
?I?m?I?m a little dizzy. I think they might have injected me with something. It knocked me out pretty quickly from what I can remember?? She sighed. ?Heero, what the hell is going on??
There was no answer. She could hear his laboured breathing from the other side of the room.
?Heero??
Still no answer.
?Heero?are you ok??
She hit herself mentally for asking such a stupid question. Of course he wasn?t ok! He?d just been in a car-crash for God?s sake!
She heard him move again.
?I?m-? Heero inhaled sharply, ??fine?I?m fine?? He took another breath. ?I just need to rest?just for a little longer?then we?ll get out of here. You have my word on that, my princess??
He was silent. Relena didn?t say anything. She wanted to hear every breath he took as he drifted into sleep, just to remind herself that he was alive. That he was with her.
But something was definitely wrong. This wasn?t like Heero at all?he must be in a lot of pain?
She closed her eyes.
?Don?t call me that?? She whispered softly, her mind slowly being consumed by the darkness around her.

?Too bad?Mr Yuy??
Relena?s eyes snapped open. She hastily tried to get used to the light that had seemingly come from nowhere, but her eyes burned with the unfamiliarity. She heard noises coming from somewhere near, though she couldn?t quite comprehend what they were. Slowly, blurred shapes began to form in her line of vision. She blinked a few times.
Then she could see everything.
Heero had been strapped to the wall, his arms and legs chained to the bare bricks behind him. He was tightly bound, blood oozing from open wounds on his wrists where he had strained against the steel. Deep cuts covered his torso, dark blood from them dripping over his lean muscles, staining his tanned skin with its crimson dye. There was a large bruise over his left rib ? the discolouration of the area making Relena feel nauseous.
Jesus, everything about this made her feel sick to her stomach.
Heero?s head was hanging limply, his body heaving with the difficulty he had breathing. She could see the light play off something wet in his knotted hair.
More blood.
There was too much blood.
Relena felt herself wretch.
She didn?t realise she?d made a noise until Heero began to lift his head. It seemed to her that it was the most difficult thing he?d ever done. She almost didn?t want to see his face, didn?t want to see those familiar eyes stare into her ? she didn?t want it to be him at all?she couldn?t bear to think that they had done this to Heero.
As his face came into the light, she felt her stomach tie itself into thousands of painful knots. She felt as if knives had pierced her insides.
Pierced her heart.
She closed her eyes, feeling a tear escape as she did so. She couldn?t open them. Wouldn?t open them. What she had seen?It couldn?t have been him?surely?it had to be someone else?
She swallowed. Shaking her head, she gradually forced her eyes open again.
A high pitched wail threatened to escape her throat as she caught sight of him again, but she swallowed it with effort. She made herself look at him.
His eyes held hers, their once unwavering intensity now lost to a look of raw agony and despair. His features were no longer proudly held, no longer indescribably striking as they had been only hours ago ? an overwhelming look of weariness and defeat now shadowing them so much he was hardly recognisable. Blood trickled down from under his hair, past his right eye?further?further?until it paused, hanging on the edge of his jaw, poised, ready to drop?
Relena?s tear hit the floor as the blood did.
?Oh don?t cry for him your highness?? A familiar voice echoed off the bare walls. Relena?s head jerked to a forgotten corner of the room where a man was leaning casually against the dirty brick wall. ?he doesn?t deserve tears of any sort?he?s not co-operating.? The man sauntered over to Heero, whose head had sunk down again. Grabbing a fistful of hair, he jerked Heero?s head back, slamming it against the wall. ?He?s only thinking of himself?? He spat at him, ?so he doesn?t deserve the tears of others??
The man glowered at Heero momentarily, before slamming his head against the wall again. Heero didn?t make a sound. He just took it. Again, the man smashed the back of his head against the wall. Again?and again.
He just stood there.
And took it.
For her?
She couldn?t stand it. He was about to do it again.
?STOP! PLEASE GOD STOP!!? she cried out, desperately trying to break free of her bonds before he hurt Heero again. ?Please!?? she sobbed, ?please?why are you doing this to him? It?s me you want! Isn?t it?!?
He stopped.
?WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO HIM?!? She screamed, her lungs aching for air.
The man dropped Heero?s head, which fell limply to rest on his chest. The metal chains on his wrists bit into his skin as he put his weight on them. Relena flinched as more blood seeped out of the previous marks there.
The man walked over to her, kneeling down so their faces were level. This was the first time she?d seen his face. He looked older than her, though not by much. Light brown hair fell about his face. A scar ran over his right eye.
?Excuse me, your highness?I don?t think I?ve introduced myself.? He smiled. ?My name is Caan?although I did rather like being referred to as God?? The sound of his laugh reaching her ears made her wince. It made her want to cover them, or to shove something down his throat so he?d never find anything quite so funny again.
?What do you want from me?? She muttered, looking down. She felt a finger placed under her chin. Caan tilted her head up to face him. He was still smiling. What a sick bastard
?My dear princess?? He brought his head closer to hers. ?What makes you so sure I?m after you?mm?? He ran his finger up to her lips, then across her cheek. Her eyes widened at his words, though she recoiled at his touch.
?What??? she whispered. Caan tutted, patronisingly.
?Don?t you understand my dear?? He stood up and walked over to Heero again. ?The only way I could get to him,? He grabbed a tuft of Heero?s hair, yanking his head up again, ??was through you??
Relena?s face was that of utter disbelief. Her mouth hung open as she tried to grasp the meaning of his words. She heard Caan chuckle repulsively.
?You see, I?ve been searching for him for a long time?but he?s not an easy man to get hold of?you know that, right?? He gave her a derisive smirk. ?So anyway?? He continued, as if telling some sick little story, ?I had to find his weakness, you see?" He paused. "...and do you know what it was, Relena??
Heero?s eyes opened and locked onto hers.
She shook her head.
Caan laughed....
?It was you.?
