All I Can't Have

A shrill ringing pushed through the fog as Relena fell into alertness with the grace of a housecat being thrown into cold water. Shooting up from her desk, her rest spot for the night, Relena lept to catch the phone on the other side of the bed on its 5th or 6th ring. Despite the fact the she had just awoken from a 3 hour sleep, had a crick in her neck that hurt like a bitch, and had a sticky note attached to her face, Relena was able to pop out a very dignified, ?Relena Darlian,? before falling back to lay on the bed.
?Miss Darlian, you asked me to call you at 7 this morning to go over today?s schedule,? a bubbly, I-am-a-morning-person voice squeaked across the line. Relena could almost see the cute little redhead she had hired chirping at her desk.
Relena?s eyes flicked to the clock, it was exactly 7. Well, at least she was good. ?Go ahead, Cass,?
Cass was immediate. ?At 8 you have a meeting with the President of the L colony, followed by a speech to the CLBA at the Service Center at 9:30. Next up is an appearance outside the newly built sector of the city at 10 and then another meeting with the colony leaders, all of them, at 10:45. Lunch is at 12 at Debora Meyers house, the mother of the President of this colony, and then at 1 you have a teleconference with the United Council. Then at 2:15 you have-?
Relena cut her off; she couldn?t handle any more at the moment. ?Thank you, Cass. Call my cell between 12 and 1 to give me my afternoon schedule, right now I need to get some coffee.? She said as she stood up, running a hand through a strand of her slightly gritty, unwashed hair.
?I?ll send it right up, Miss Darlian.? Cass chirped.
?That won?t be necessary, I can make my own-?
?I insist. The limo will be ready for you at 7:45.? Relena could feel the woman smiling through the phone.
?Thank you,? Relena said as she hung up. She glanced at the clock again, 7:10. Shit. Relena only had 30 minutes to get ready for her meeting with the President, and as a representative of the entire Earth Sphere she had to look her best. Damn paperwork, I don?t even remember what time I passed out! Streaking across the bedroom Relena ripped off clothing and a sticky note and practically jumped into the shower, turning on the water full blast.
Relena emitted a small shriek as cold water pounded her, but wasted none off it. Just as the water had gotten properly heated she turned it off, stepped out and grabbed a towel. As she dried herself she looked at her self in the mirror, her hair hung limply about her face. It was now 7:30. Pulling on her panties and bra she had worn to sleep the night before, Relena raced across her room to find an outfit for the day. Or, at least, she would have had she not bumped into Heero.
By some strange grace of God, Heero was able to keep the coffee from capsizing with one hand and steady the near-naked Relena with the other. For a moment the two just looked at each other, neither saying a word.
Then, just as her face had hit beat red, Relena pushed against Heero?s tensed body and rushed to the bed, grabbing a sheet and draping it in front of her. Heero looked at her expressionless, as per usual.
?Do you not knock, Mr. Yuy!?? Relena all but shrieked, now a color similar the lipstick she had had smeared across her face earlier that morning. Heero couldn?t tell if she had turned red because she was embarrassed or extremely pissed off.
?I did,? Heero said, his eyes still on her. They were both silent once again.
?Well? Get out!? Relena finally exclaimed, breaking both of them out of, well, whatever the hell it was that they were in. Heero turned to set the coffee on her dresser and then left her room, closing the door behind him. Relena found herself breathing heavily as she stared at the door.
Then her alarm rang, it was 7:45.
?Shit!? she moaned as she continued her race to put on clothes. She guessed she would just leave her hair as it was for now.

Heero stood just outside the door, his back to it and his arms folded across his chest. His eyes, behind the sunglasses he had just put on, were closed. If one looked closely, they would notice his jaw muscle working furiously, as if he were in deep concentration. And, truth be told, he was.
Using every part of him, Heero was attempting to push the earlier sight from his mind. Not only was it indecent and insensitive to be thinking of his charge in such a way, but it was also distracting. When was the last time Heero has seen her like that? Rushed and haphazard? Too long. And when was the last time he had seen her so?so revealed? Heero tensed; never. Although Heero?s fingers were digging unseen into his arm, the image of her near-naked body running into him, the feel of it against him, would not leave his mind. She was so..so?
Fuck, no. Heero chastised himself. The sound of a door opening brought him from his stupor, but at the sight of what came out of it, Heero would have preferred fighting unarmed against a Gundam.
Although having dressed in 2 minutes, exactly, Relena had managed to make herself look a vision. She wore a cream-colored power suit, a bit shorter in the skirt than what she usually wore. It was an old one; he had seen it a few years ago when Relena was younger?back when it had fit her perfectly. Relena hadn?t exactly gained weight, she simply grew up-and all that that implied. The form-fitting suit pressed against her, revealing her thin body and, to an even greater degree, her full chest. Heero?s eyes racked her body for only a moment before he turned away.
?You should lock your door,? he said, his voice a tad harsher than he had intended.
Relena looked at him, surprise crossing her features. This was followed closely by anger. ?This is my mansion, I will lock or unlock what I choose. You should wait until you hear an answer!? she growled as she began walking down the hall, Heero at her side.
Heero decided not to explain his reasons to her, it seemed that she had finally had her morning coffee and he didn?t want to push her to far before her first meeting. And besides that, he didn?t think he could handle hearing her voice say his name again.

The drive over to the Presidents house was bless fully silent. As Relena?s head bodyguard, Heero had to accompany her everywhere, so the two did their respective duties with the silence of assassin?s. When ever Heero opened a door for her, Relena replied with a curt and cold ?Thank you,?, and whenever Heero was asked to do something, he replied with a monotonous ?Yes, Miss Darlian,? The ?Yes, Miss Darlian? ?s seemed to bother Relena more than the icy words of thanks seemed to bother Heero.
By lunch, Relena slumped antikinetically into the limo and leaned back against the seat. Heero joined her shortly. Relena quickly flitted her eyes for a moment at Heero to see if he was watching her, thankfully he was not. How dare he come into my room and see me like that! She growled inwardly as she studied him. He had grown so much since the first time they had met, and as these nostalgic feelings floated into her her anger slowly ebbed away.
Under her eyes, Relena noted how his shoulders had broadened, taken him from muscle-packed teen to muscle-packed young man. He had gotten taller, a little over a foot, but his face, eyes, and that mess of brown hair remained the same. Relena pulled her eyes from him to look out the window, cutting off her wondering mind.
?Miss Darlian,?
???
?Miss Darlian,?
?What?? Relena finally turned to him, for some reason already ready to go into another fight.
?Your cell phone,?
Then Relena heard it, how had she not before? Stopping the chicken dance, the song she had idiotically chosen as a ring tone, she put the phone to her ear. ?Relena Darlian,?
?Good afternoon, Miss Darlian. Are you ready for your afternoon schedule? Sorry I called before 12, but I wasn?t sure if you would have any spare time during or after lunch,?
?It?s fine, Cass,? Relena said, cringing as rays of sunlight blasted her through the phone. ?Go ahead,?
When Cass had finally finished with another ten-foot long schedule, Relena went to close the phone. She stopped when Cass?s voice squeaked, ?Wait!? Raising an eyebrow, Relena put the phone back to her ear.
?Yes, Cass??
Cass hesitated, a trait to rare in her that Relena found herself genuinely worried. ?What is it? Are you all right?
Cass giggled. ?Oh yes, I am fine. It?s just?oh, never mind. It?s disrespectful.?
Relena smiled, despite herself. ?Please, really, it?s quite all right. Just say it,? she said gently, a soft voice she hadn?t heard herself use in years.
?Um? alright then. You see, he doesn?t have a cell and I am not supposed to contact him through security because, well, he said so? do you think I could speak to Heero for a moment??
By some stroke of luck the car stopped just at that moment and Relena?s act of standing straight up, and into a roof, actually became a launch across the limo and into Heero?s lap. The cell phone clattered to the floor and Relena found herself body to body with Heero, his head just a little above hers. With her knees in his lap, and her skirt having risen halfway up her thigh, Relena would have sworn to God that she saw Heero's gaze flick there. His tight grip on her arms in the act of catching her hurt a little; she couldn't move. The ?moment? only lasted an instant. Gently, but firmly, Heero placed her back on her own seat. ?Seat belt?? he asked as he bent to pick up the phone. Heero was about to hand it back to Relena when Cass?s voice, even squeakier from that distance, chirped, ?Heero? Heero? Hello??
Without looking at Relena, Heero brought the phone to his ear. Relena moved forward to hear what was said but Heero was already up and out of the car, holding the door for Relena. By the time she made it out of the limo and finished adjusting her clothing, Heero had closed the cell and was holding it out. As she and Heero walked up the path to the President?s mother?s house, Relena muttered under her breath. ?And what was that all about??
Heero walked straight ahead and held out the door for Relena. ?It?s none of your business,? he said, unfeeling, unmoving, and unconvincing. Suddenly, not wanting to know what it was about, Relena pushed passed him and into the dining room, ignoring the blustered butler that had been waiting for her. Miss Meyers stood calmly, her face lighting up with a smile at the sight of the Vice Foreign Minister.
?Why Relena Darlian, my dear, how are you??

This is an awesome fic so far! I can't wait for the next chapter! :bounce: :D
What do I see? I see time as it affects all things. Human flesh whithers and dies before my eyes. Flowers bloom, only to fade. Trees drop green leaves, never to retain them. In my sight, it is always winter, always night.

OHHHH....
That Cass better not be infatuated with Heero!
Although, reality wise, who wouldn't?
I wonder what kind of panties and bra was she wearing? Hmmm.... 8)
I still can't believe he knocked her out of her seat in the limo and ended up in that
situation!!
With her knees in his lap, and her skirt having risen halfway up her thigh, Relena would have sworn to God that she saw Heero's gaze flick there.
jajaja...oh those wandering eyes of his!!
Lovely start!!
Please continue and hopefully more embarassing encounters will ensue! *_*

Hahahah! :D

Ah, Heero...ever the man of impossibility!

Love this first chappie!

On to the next!
Why drink one cup of coffee with Heero, when you can drink two cups of coffee with Trowa and Heero???

I wanna be goth, but I don''t know how.

?It?s fine, Cass,? Relena said, cringing as rays of sunlight blasted her through the phone.
:blasted: Tahahaha! I quite literally burst out laughing at this. Reminds me of a particular character I went to high school with... it was so hard to be tolerant of the over-exuberance of cheerfulness honestly.

Excellently done -- onto the next chappie! :salute:
