Guilty Pleasures
A Shin Kidou Senku Gundam W fanfic by Preventer Void
AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is just a goofy little one-shot I thought up while helping my aunt after she had arm surgery. There's really not much to say, honestly...this story is pretty short and self-explanatory. Despite what the name might have you thinking, there's nothing sexual involved; this is a basic one-shot that covers the characters in their private moments. The only other thing worth noting is that I was originally going to use Another Century's Episode, a wonderful game by Banpresto and From Software, but I changed my mind and went with an original concept instead. That said, on with the show!

Relena Darlian heaved a heavy sigh as she walked in the front door of her mansion. Running her fingers through her hair, she wondered why she bothered keeping it long; it just meant more to wash each morning and more sweat that got trapped within during the day. Of course, she had been saying that she'd get it cut short for years now, but had always forgotten about it until several months or even a year later, when she went through the same process again.
Not even waiting to get into her room, she slipped the beige pumps off her feet and took one in each hand. She flexed her toes; even through the pantyhose, bare feet on carpet felt good. After relishing the feeling of her own home beneath her feet for a minute, she headed upstairs. When she got within five feet of her bedroom door, the phone rang. She gritted her teeth...it never failed.
One of the maids answered the downstairs phone. "Darlian residence." After a pause, she put a hand over the mouthpiece and looked up at the balcony where Relena was standing. "It's the President." Had she been closer, the maid would have heard her young employer mutter something about the President's lineage and his sexual preferences. She decided that she was going to need her release more than she thought. Looking down at the maid, she shook her head and tapped her wristwatch. Understanding, the young woman returned to the phone. "I'm sorry, sir, she's not available right now. Yes, I'll tell her."
Right now, Relena didn't care what the President had to say. She had just spent a week at a conference, butting heads with delegates who didn't like the idea that an eighteen-year-old girl knew better than them. Of course, they had eventually seen her point, but for some time most of them acted like they'd sooner take an enema than the Vice Foreign Minister's advice. She had some fun things to say about them too, but that could wait.
Getting into her room was like entering another world, a world where she didn't have to answer to worry about anything bigger than whatever was going on inside those four walls. The second that door closed, Vice Foreign Minister Darlian ceased to be and was replaced by Relena, a teenage girl who just wanted to relax and have fun. Some would have called it egotistical, but frankly, she didn't give a damn. These moments were the only thing that kept her from snapping like an overstretched rubber band.
Along with her title, she shed her habits and clothing. She was normally a self-described neat-freak, but this just wasn't the time for it. Off came the jacket. Off came the scarf and blouse. Off came the pantyhose, skirt, and underwear. The hair came out of the ponytail and fell down her bare back like a flowing waterfall. Lobbing the outfit into a hamper, she started a hot bath and just lounged. It felt sinfully good, just lying there and letting the water take the tension out of her muscles. After a half-hour or so of just soaking, she climbed out and towelled off, then wrapped herself in a a pink satin robe. Some days, she would have gotten dressed in something that nobody would have expected her to wear, like leather pants and a tube top or a scandalously short dress, just to feel that she was as far from her public servant persona as possible. Today she didn't even feel like that. She just wanted to be as casual as humanly possible...oh, except for that.
There was still one guilty pleasure that was even more secret than most, for several reasons. Walking over to the cabinet at the foot of her bed, she opened the drawer just below the television. Inside was a sleek black box about the size of a thin book with cables running from its longer, thinner dimensions. She plugged one into the wall socket and another into the AV jacks on the front of the TV. The last plug lead to an oddly-shaped device with several buttons and two minature joysticks. She pressed a button on the main box and turned on the TV, then took the device and sat on the bed.
Thinking about the situation while she waited, Relena figured that this was another one of those things that could never get out. It didn't matter if she played the most innocuous game ever made, the fact that she played video games at all would cause a controversy. For the love of God, her sneezing could probably trigger a controversy. Closing her eyes, she saw an all-too-familiar tabloid cover that she had tried to push out of her mind some time ago. That made her grind her teeth. It wasn't even her fault, and she had gotten yelled at for it.
The game started up and she sped through the menus. Even though her enemies were giant robots, she didn't see them that way. All she saw were obsessed photographers, stubborn politicians, and the disapproving public who kept her within a gilded cage. Unleashing a barrage of bullets, beams and blades made her feel much better. It may have been a game, but it was a wonderful form of release and nobody could know about it...
"Relena?"
With a start and a brief scream, she fumbled the remote just as a giant red machine released a barrage of missiles at her. Stunned, she watched her HP drop like a stone until she was treated to a full motion video of her machine giving of sparks and flames before erupting into an enormous fireball. Trying to keep from yelling, she turned to the interruptor. "Heero, can't you read the damn sign?!"
Looking surprised and maybe a little hurt, Heero Yuy walked over to the dresser and held up a hand-carved "Do Not Disturb" sign. "You, um...you didn't put it up."
The young woman stopped and reminded herself that although many people pissed her off, her bodyguard wasn't one of them. "Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you like that, but it's been one of those weeks."
Heero nodded. "I heard as much. The usual?"
"The usual," she replied with more than a little resignation in her voice. She indicated her own robe-clad form. "This gave it away, huh?"
"Yeah, I'd like to think that I've learned your little si..." He trailed off as he looked over at the game on her TV. "Scorpio?!"
Slowly, Relena put a wonky smile on her face. "Um, yeah...this is one of those things I had to hide because I knew you'd flip out if you learned about it. Now, don't get mad at me, but a couple of months ago, someone mailed me this package that contained the game system and the game." She saw Heero start to open his mouth and held up a finger to stop him. "Before you say it, I had security check everything. There was no bomb, no anthrax, nothing like that. It was a perfectly ordinary package with a perfectly ordinary game console and a perfectly ordinary video game...that just so happens to be about you and the others." She reached into the dresser drawer and handed him the game's box.
"'Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor'? That's pretty uncreative. Who made this?"
"Some company called Bandai. I looked them up and they don't exist. There wasn't a return address on the package either. It's really creeping me out, but I figured that if anyone knew that I had a video game which recreated Mobile Suit battles, there would be a huge fallout."
Heero looked at her in disbelief. "Do you really think..."
"Last August."
He shook his head and sighed. "Hey, I don't get why they blamed you for that either."
"Because," Relena said as she rolled her eyes, "I'm absolutely flawless, so I should have known that there would have been a strong breeze that day and worn pants. But obviously, the fact that I chose to wear a skirt makes me some kind of horrible slut." Trying to keep from going off on a rant, she stopped to calm herself down. A thought entered her head. "Hey Heero, can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what is it?"
She knew this was going to be hard, but it was now or never. "I...want to go out."
Heero blinked in surprise. "What?"
"Look, I know that I'm a big, important politician...but I'm also a teenage girl who hasn't lived a day of her life. I don't really give a damn about what people think. I want to do something fun. Maybe go to a club, maybe attend a concert, I don't know. I just want to act like an eighteen-year-old who DOESN'T have a billion freaking reporters watching her just to see if she slips up. So would you please let me do something fun?"
Heero stood there, looking into her violet eyes for some time. A couple of minutes later, he nodded. "Okay."
"But I...wait, what?! You said yes?"
"You act like I was going to say no."
Putting her hands on her hips, Relena looked at the Perfect Soldier dubiously. "You're my bodyguard and I'm asking to go out in public. That's typically a 'no' situation with you."
Smiling, Heero went over and hugged her. "I may not understand exactly what you're going through, but I try. I know that you're still a young woman who never really got to have any fun. Besides, what kind of person would I be if I told you that you had to stay here twenty-four seven?"
She flashed an innocent smile up at him. "A heartless bastard?"
"Pretty much," he said with a quick nod. "But understand that there are going to be some conditions."
That explained it. She pulled away and glared at him. "Here we go..."
Heero feigned hurt. "Am I really that bad?"
"We'll see," she said teasingly. "What are the conditions?"
"Number one, you'll have to go out in disguise so that you don't get stalked."
She nodded. "That makes sense."
He continued, ticking off another finger. "Number two, you'll have to do some careful planning to make sure that the paparazzi don't figure the whole thing out in the first place."
"Okay..."
"And number three...I have to go with you."
"What?" she said, her voice betraying the surprise she felt.
He leaned against the wall and frowned. "Like it or not, you ARE an important person, and there are people who want to do bad things to you. I have no problem with you going out and having fun, but you'll still need some measure of security to make sure nothing goes wrong. I figure that traditional bodyguards would probably piss you off, so maybe you'll be okay with just me."
Relena smiled and put her arms around his shoulders. "So I get to do regular teenage girl things AND spend more time with you? Did I die and go to Heaven or something?"
Looking into her eyes again, Heero smiled back. "Still, this has to stay our little secret, okay?"
"Of course, just like the game...right?"
"Right," he said as he looked at the box again. "But I still want to know where this came from..."
********************
It was about noon when the package arrived. The mailman left it on the doorstep and rang the doorbell, then headed off in his truck. Five minutes later, the door opened and a twenty-somthing wearing red pajamas picked up the package. He grinned in anticipation, then closed the door to make sure that none of the cats got out. Setting the box on a nearby sofa, he stripped the tape away, still grinning. That Grant-A-Wish website had seemed too good to be true, and now...
Then the box was open. Reaching inside, he pulled out some slips of paper and read them. Then he pulled off his glasses, wiped them on his pajama top, and read them again to make sure he wasn't crazy. "Weekend tickets to a spa?! Where the hell's my game?! Aw man, the guys are going to kill me..."

This is cool. Relena playing video games. Hey, can you make a sequel where Heero plays the game and Relena caught him playing it? That would be kewl.
