It was feather light, the touch of his fingers to her chin. As always, the touch of his skin to hers sent shockwaves through them both. Her hand touched the smooth skin of his face, marveling at the face that no one but her would see.

He was the king without a country. She was merely a plebian blessed enough to have been selected to walk this path. None of that mattered as her lips found his. She kissed him, telling him with her mouth the words she could never utter aloud. He groaned as his lips moved from hers, his hands bringing her closer to him.

They had been enemies throughout their time at Victoria. Everyone had resented the boy with the mask for being the best in the class, especially since she was the most popular person at Victoria. Then, a surprise sprig of mistletoe at the entrance hall of Treize Khrushenada's English manor house had changed that. They kissed and something had clicked between the two of them. Things had never been the same.

He craved her like he craved the battlefield. She was the only good thing, the only thing that was not tainted in his life. She reminded him of who he could have been if the blood of his forefathers was not on his hand. For her, she at first reached out to heal the shell-shocked boy she still saw inside of him. Now, though, she had fallen for the man; a warrior who needed all of the love she could give him.

She had been only wearing a nightshirt when he came to her tonight. He had been in uniform but that was quickly discarded and on the floor. He pulled off her nightshirt, his hands tracing her breasts. Sometimes, he still wondered how he became lucky enough to have her. He whispered, "We don't have much time tonight."

She nodded as she held him. They just lay there, silent as their thoughts swirled around them. In less than a week, she would be returning to Victoria, to a new class of Specials cadets. He would be with Treize, playing in the world of the Alliance while making deals in the background. The time for the Treize's plan was coming close and they would have to be ready.

With a shock, Zechs pulled Noin closer, his mouth on hers, kissing her as if there was no tomorrow. One of his hands went behind her head, keeping her closer as the other hand wrapped around her waist. Their tongues dueled as they kissed their desperation evident as they clung to each other. Then Noin moved her lips from his, reluctantly moving away.

He got off the bed and began to put his uniform back on. With each button, each snap, the barriers between them were rebuilt. She frowned as he stood there in uniform, his hair illuminated by the moonlight coming in her room. It was hard to believe that he had just been in arms several minutes ago.

He replaced his helmet as she gathered her sheets. No words needed to be said, they knew their roles.

He left the room and she began to cry. Life was not fair.

A wonderful little drabble at the bittersweet pairing. I do love my occassional shot of 6x9 and this was the best for it! Excellently written and insightful
