Ideas for a Christmas/Holiday Challenge!

Post by blackrose »

We started talking on the 1xR livejournal community about a Christmas challenge, and I thought it might be fun to do something at Blissful as well!

There's only 10 more weeks (and a couple of days) until Christmas, and though not everyone celebrates the holiday, it is that time of year when we can look forward to...that's right - Days off from school and/or work. What can be better than that?

And as your benevolent *snicker* warlord, I would not be doing my job if I didn't try to get some of you to be productive instead of slacking off during your holiday daze. ^__^ (I'm here for you, really!)

So, what would you guys like to do? And I'm going to try to make it open to all the different fandoms, so if you would like to help out in a particular area, I'd LOVE volunteers. :D

Poll away!

I chose: "A single-themed fiction/fanart/avatar-making challenge." :) That sounds like fun. :-? It's not like I'd participate in the citrusy option... (Guys, I tried to read some lemons yesterday, and I just couldn't! WHY do you like those?? :-P) I also like the fourth choice, though. {Member-nominated collection of themes for Holiday/New Year challenge (could still include art/graphics)}.

By help out, what do you mean?

I think the single-themed option would be the easiest to do... if everyone could agree on one theme that interests everyone and yet still leaves plenty of space for creativity...? The multiple, nominated themes might get more people to sign up, though. I'm not sure. @.@

And citrus? Definitely should be added in some way or another. ^_^ But I think it should be more of a, "If you want your fic to go this way, feel free!" kind of thing! Or a secondary, seperate challange would work as well.

I'd be happy to help you with whatever you needed for the challenge, Rose, but I'm not sure what sort've help you're going to need! Organizing? Or will there be judging? Or...

Just tell me whatever you need help with. ^_^

All right, you single-theme-loving people. Got any ideas as to what that theme should be?

Ah, I said I supported the idea! I never said I was creative enough to come up with a good theme to support it.

Umn.... well, let's see. It has to be something to do with Christmas, right?

*Everyone gives her a "Duh" look*

... ^_^;; Well! Are we doing a common-plot theme, common-symbol theme, or one of those themes where they give you a list of words or phrases that the author have to incorporate into his fics somehow...?

And is it just gonna be HxR or can it include other couples?

*Sits down to brainstorm and hopes her midterms haven't fried all her availible braincells yet*

A citrus challenge would be really nice. 1xR lemons always are fun to read and I hate having to wait until february to read so many good ones in the love reflection list. Maybe you could do a challenge similar to "Church of lemons" here in BI as a Christmas gift to your loyal members. A smutty holiday challenge would be so much fun *_* *_*

Ummmm... I was thinking a secondary challenge. Someone mentioned the Church of Lemons thing we've done in February for the last 2 years. But, I was thinking of maybe not doing that again this year. It depends on the amount of parties interested. A challenge that maybe ran from Nov to Feb might garner more interest?

Mostly organizing. I don't think we'll do any judging. Maybe a poll, maybe a 'contest' of who can participate the most. But, no judging.

Just tell me whatever you need help with. ^_^[/quote]

What about using quotes on one theme/a specific quote as a theme?

"I can understand people simply fleeing the mountainous effort Christmas has become... but there are always a few saving graces and finally they make up for all the bother and distress." ~May Sarton

:-? Just looked up "Christmas Quotes" and found a whole bunch of pages. There's gotta be something in them...

I've been looking for this quote all over the place!

"All the world's indeed a stage,
And we are merely players,
Performers and portrayers,
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage."

-- Rush, Limelight, circa 1981

This is actually a pretty interesting quote in that I can't find out who actually said it first. :-? Rush Limbaugh, Rush the band, Rush so and so, and even Shakespear. Now I'm not a fan of Shakespear, so I wouldn't know. But anyway, I don't know which Rush this is considering that it's acclaimed to so many. I don't know how you'd relate it to Christmas tho... I always think of Christmas when I see "gild..." That's why I thought of this quote and searched for it specifically. :-?

I like that quote. I think Shakespeare said it, or at least something very similar... anyway, I could really see that fitting Relena and Heero. ^_^;
