A New Generation

Chapter One; " The Black Cat"

"Damn it... wash out already!" Kyo's ears perked up upon hearing faint curses coming from the bathroom. "Hm?"

"I have to get to school, damn it! Run clear already.... DAMMIT!!!" Kyo entered the bathroom, a curious look on his face. "Vincent?" The boy looked up from the bathtub, the hand-held shower head in his tight grip. Kyo laughed when he saw the black, inky blotches on the boy's face. He took the shower head from Vincent's grip. "Lean over. I'll rinse it for you."

As Kyo rinsed the boy's jet black hair, he frowned. "Why do you do this?"

He bit his lip. "It was too damned orange!" Kyo laughed. "I leave mine the way it is... I don't have a problem with it."

"Yeah, but then again, you're effing weird."

"What did they say to you?"

"...What?"

"I know you're being picked on by the others. What did they say?"

"Nobody said anything, Kyo. I'm just sick of my damned hair!"

"Well, ignore it, ya dumb kid. I put up with it every day." Vincent raised his head and looked at Kyo. "What the hell's your problem?" Kyo asked.

"You're always up my ass, and in my business... why don't you get a hobby, or find a girlfriend? You're not a counselor." Kyo sighed.

"I've taken you in, put a roof over your head, fed you, clothed you... I'm doing for you what Kasuma did for me. I'm treating you like my own child. So, it's my duty." He looked down atVincent's wrist. "You'd better have that bracelet on extra tight, 'cause with your crappy attitude, there's gonna' be quite a few people wantin' a piece a you." He turned the water off, and hung the shower head on its hook. Vincent towel dried his hair quickly and brushed it. He looked in the mirror and saw Kyo staring at his reflection as well. "What?" He snapped. Kyo laughed.

"I just wonder if you'll be a black cat when you transform... heh heh!!" Vincent's eyes narrowed and he grabbed his book bag. "Have a helluva day." Kyo said in an undertone as the boy disappeared out the door.

"Hello!" came a cheery voice. Vincent turned around and saw Tohru, Yuki, and Aeris. "Ah... hello, Yuki... Tohru....." he looked at Aeris who stood at the end. "Aeris? Are... are you feeling okay?" The girl looked like she was about to burst into a sobbing fit at any moment. "You... you.."

"I... what?"

"You... you dyed your hair!! How could you?!"

"I'm sick of being so different, Aeris... you can't say I didn't stick out." Aeris cocked her head and stared at him. "Well... I kinda' like it more..." She played with a few strands. "It's all dark and mysterious. It suits you better, actually. The orange said 'wild' and 'upbeat'... and the black says 'laid back' and 'conservative'... atleast that's how you seem around me." Kyo walked out. he grinned. He whispered something in Aeris's ear, making her grin. She suddenly flung her arms around Vincent. "Don't---"

*POOF*

Aeris held there in her arms a black cat. Kyo laughed. "We should dye Momiji pink!" Aeris giggled and held the cat up in front of her. "I was kinda' wonderin' that myself. I couldn't help it."

"Aeris...?"

"Yeah?"

"Please... just put me down..."

Aeris frowned. She realized she had disappointed him. "I'm sorry, Vincent... I didn't mean it..."

She folded his clothes and followed him to a bush, placing them on the ground beside him. He sat there gloomily. Aeris frowned. "I said I'm sorry... I'll be waiting by the front door when you're ready..."

Aeris frowned and looked up at Kyo. "I think it made him mad... I'm sorry, Kyo..."

"Why are you apologizing to me? It was MY idea in the first place." Tohru put a hand on her daughter's shoulder. "He gets like this easily. Don't get so discouraged."

*POOF*

On hearing the noise, Aeris ran to the front door. Tohru giggled. "You'd better hurry Vincent." He stood up, fully clothed again. He and Aeris walked down the road. Tohru frowned. "He's getting worse." Yuki nodded. "I have to agree. He seems more gloomy than he ever has." Kyo frowned. "I've tried talking' to him... I've told him and told him, but he still...."

"I wonder how we can help him..."

Aeris looked at Vincent. She walked a few feet behind him, trying to figure out why he was so gloomy that morning. She fidgeted nervously as they walked. "Do you want me to carry your things?"

"Wha-....?"

"Those odd noises you're making... is your bag heavy? Would you like for me to carry it?"

"Oh, no it's not heavy. I'm just-"

"Aeris!" The two turned around and saw Cloud and Tifa running up to them from behind. Aeris smiled. "Hi, you guys!" She giggled and hugged each of them. Vincent scoffed to himself. and began to walk away. "Vin, WHAT did you do to your HAIR?!" Tifa cried. He turned and looked at the honey-eyed girl. "I dyed it. It looked like shit orange." Aeris sighed. She hated curse words. Vincent looked at the three a moment. "We should get going. We're going to be late."

"Come in," Kyo said, making room for Yuki and Tohru to enter the home. "Want some coffee or anything?" He asked. "If you don't mind, I would." Came Tohru's pleasant voice. Kyo frowned. Everytime he heard her voice, saw her face, he thought of that night twenty years ago... his body gave a twitch as he poured the coffee for the woman. He handed her the cup. "Here you go," he said, a faint blush on his cheeks. He turned around to hide his sad face from Yuki.

Yuki frowned as he looked at Kyo. The three sat in silence, until Tohru got up. "Excuse me, I have to use the ladies' room, hee hee." Kyo watched as she disappeared into the next room. Yuki glared at him. "You still love her, don't you, Kyo?" Kyo frowned. "I can't lie... I do... in a way... but I'm just jealous of you... but I guess that as long as she's happy, I know that I can stay content. I know that I can't have her... and I won't even try..." Yuki frowned. "I don't see why you're so upset, Kyo... you and Vincent have been like Father and Son ever since you found him... hell, he even acts like you... I know that he never shows it, but deep down inside, Vincent is really happy having you around.." Kyo scoffed to himself. "Aren't you supposed to hate cats, rat-boy?"

"I like Vincent because he doesn't try to fight me everytime we meet like you used to."

Kyo grit his teeth. "See, the boy even helped you learn self-control. If you were your old self, you would have burst out screaming, 'what's that supposed to mean'." Kyo looked down at the floor. "Yeah, I guess you're right..." Yuki smiled at him. "Kyo," Kyo looked up at him. "Why don't you go talk to Kagura?"

"Kagura hates me now..."

"How do you figure?"

"I said somethin' years ago that pissed her off real bad..."

Yuki smirked. "Better pissed off than pissed on, right?" Kyo laughed at the sarcastic comment. "That's the first joke you've cracked in a while, Yuki." Tohru came back into the room and sat down at the table. "So, how can we go about cheering Vincent up?"

Tohru giggled. "I guess that could work. The two of you COULD use a ladies' touch around here..." Kyo stared oddly into her bright bluish-green eyes. Yuki frowned sadly. He could understand what Kyo felt. It was exactly the same way that he would have felt if Tohru had chosen Kyo over himself.

"They should be coming any minute now."

"I'm home." Came Vincent's gloomy voice. "Come here!" Kyo said. Vincent entered the room. "What is it?" he asked. Tohru looked up. "Where is Aeris?" Vincent scoffed to himself. "She'll be here in a few...." Kyo stared, unamused at the boy. "First you dye your hair on me, then you get in one of your moods, and leave Aeris behind? What kind of-"

"Just shut up, Kyo. I didn't leave her behind... I just walked faster than her..."

"A helluva lot faster, you little brat!" They heard the door open. "Aeris, come here!" Tohru shouted. Aeris entered the room, gasping for breath. Vincent stared at the floor in shame. She looked at him, pouting. "You jerk!" she whimpered. Tohru giggled. "Sit down, both of you." Yuki said. The two sat. Tohru looked at her daughter. "Aeris, we have decided on something." Aeris frowned. "W... what is it?"

"You're going to stay here with Kyo and Vincent for a while."

"WHAT?!"

"Don't get so bent out of shape, Aeris." Yuki said, looking at the distraught girl. "Do whatever the hell you want, I don't care." Vincent said. He stood up and went upstairs to change clothes. Aeris looked at her parents, and Kyo, who stared back at her. "We think it might help to cheer him up." Yuki said. Aeris frowned. "He doesn't like me! I mean, he just left me to follow his tracks, and-"

"Aeris. Listen." Kyo started. "You're the only one who can help us. You're a lot like your mother... and Vincent is a lot like I used to be... so, please, just stay here for two weeks at least... and we'll see if it helps him any..." The girl frowned. Tohru smiled at her. "You'll love it here, Aeris. I felt od at first, too, but you'll get used to it. Please... do it for us... do it for the family." Aeris looked at their three pleading faces, then meekly nodded.

"Fine. I'll stay here... with Kyo... and Vincent..."

sorry for saying this but...

:x :evil: IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING THEN YOU WOULD KNOW THAT TOHRU WANTS TO RUN AWAY WITH KYO BEFORE GRADUATION WHEN HE WILL BE LOCK UP FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND SHE ETHER RUNS AWAY WITH HIM OR HE GETS LOCKED UP, AND IF THEY RUN AWAY AND COME BACK DON'T CHATHINKAKTO WOULD KNOW?! DAMN IT, I HAVE TO IDMIT THOUGH THAT IT IS A PRETTY GOOD STORY!!! PLLLLLLLEASE POST CHAPTER 2 & 3!!!!!! (OR I COULD GET UGLY!)

Thank you I guess... (blinks and pulls finger out of her ear). Anyways thanks for your thoughts. Keep in mind this takes place 20 years after the show. I myself am a Kyoru fan, but I came up with a different approach for this fic. Don't worry. There's someone for Kyo... and she's a lot like Tohru. Go fig. But I'm glad you like it, and I'll post chapter two as soon as I get back on my own computer. I'm on my mom's right now...
