Nose Bleed

Post by Kiyoko »

I wrote this like three years ago for my creative writing class. I just dug it up and thought I'd post it for all to read. Enjoy!

Nose Bleed

Colony 49 had finally returned home from their European tour to play at the Sun Theatre for all of their loyal fans. The band rarely played shows in their hometown because of recording their new album and promoting their most recent C.D. Andrew had purchased his ticket the moment they went on sale with the money he had made working at his part-time job at the ?Music Emporium?.

The intense beat of the drums pounded fiercely inside the ribcages of everyone inside the cramped venue as the band began performing the opening notes. The flashing, multi-colored lights moved in random patterns drawing the attention of hundreds to the stage. Back and forth, up and down, they glided in a fantastic display. Several bodies cramped together created a hazy of hot, thick air.

An indescribable feeling built up inside Andrew?s tall, lean body, his blue, spiked hair shaking fiercely. His heart throbbed almost painfully; it felt like it would explode. Every inch of his tan skin felt alive as blood pumped strongly through his veins. Nothing in the world could match the adrenaline rush he was experiencing now.

He had been waiting months to see Colony 49, his favorite band. The days preceding the concert went by excruciatingly slow. The anxiety was almost too much to bear; he could barely sit still in school. He had slipped through his bedroom window avoiding the front door. He loathed lying to his mother, but she forbade him from going. She thought he was studying at his best friend Ryan?s house.

Unexpectedly, the huge mass of bodies parted as a cluster of overly-enthusiastic guys began flailing their limbs while pushing against the crowd. Shrieks could be heard as vulnerable girls were flung backwards, their eyes wide with horror. A grin quickly appeared on Andrew?s handsome face, as his blood began to pump faster. The only thing his mind could tell him was to reach the center of the chaos. The lure of the insane mosh pit was too much to bear; the excitement couldn?t be passed up. He needed to express his emotions in the only way he could; he wanted to join the mass of pulsating young bodies in an exotic dance of kicking and punching. Pushing passive people out of his way, the road to the mosh pit became clearer.

Finally he broke through the thick crowd and joined the mass of bodies dancing wildly, kicking their legs and swinging their arms. Little beads of perspiration appeared in the creases of his forehead while gulping greedily for air. Abruptly, heavy hands braced against his back, then shoved him roughly forward. Instinctively his hands shot out to break his fall, but his knees hit the floor harshly. The ripping of fabric could be heard as his knees scraped against the floor, shredding his skin to pieces in the process.

Quick hands grasped him around his sweaty armpits to pull him up, but not before a wild kick hit him square in the face. The bridge of his nose throbbed as little white dots obscured his vision. Bright crimson blood trickled from his nostrils and into the curve of his mouth. He licked the blood from his lips, recognizing the metallic, bitter taste.

?Are you ok?? one of the boys yelled over the crowd. Slowly his vision corrected itself as images became solid and blended back together.

?Yeah, I?ll be fine,? he replied, steadying his feet. Andrew smiled at the boy giving him a thumbs up. The boy grinned back, and then retreated back into the mosh pit. Andrew wiped a hand under his nose smearing the blood onto his hand, and then wiped it on his pants. Checking to make sure the blood had stopped, (it had) he looked back at the pit, obviously wishing to rejoin the insanity. Glancing down at his bloody hand, he grinned, and jumped back in.
