Formerly a Neon Genesis Evangelion fic, but I was too lazy to continue it... So I just edited what I have done, changed the names and stuff, and made it into a one shot... Not all that great but... well, it's something... Hope you all enjoy... and if there's something I forgot to edit or an error in grammar, feel free to smack it... erm... express it to me... hehe ^^
Unexpected Comfort
The wind swept across the fields as a dark haired young girl stood upon the roof tops, her eyes half open, shielding them from the winds, her arms placed behind her as she stared upon the skies.
A door creaked behind her as a figure presented herself, ?Ashley??
Her hair, fixed upon pigtails, were swept by the wind as well, her eyes placed upon the dark haired girl as she moved closer towards her, a soft voice breaking the silence, ?Are you alright??
The dark haired girl remained silent, not a sign of movement upon her as she continued to stare upon the distance, as if nothing had occurred, seeming that she had ignored the voice.
?Ashley?? The pigtailed girl voiced out once again as she moved closer, placing a hand upon her shoulder, though her arm quickly moved away as the dark haired girl shrugged her shoulders in a somewhat offensive way.
The pigtailed girl pulled the dark haired girl to look upon her, her eyes bearing confusion, ?Ashley? What?s wrong??
She pushed her away, her eyes beginning to well up with tears as she shouted towards the other, ?JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!!?
Leave me alone?
She turned to stare upon the horizon once again, a tear slowly moving down upon her cheek. The pigtailed girl nodded to herself as she turned, moving towards the stairs, her head tilted to the side, observing the dark haired girl as she made her way down.
Upon the door, she had bumped into something, or more apt, someone. Her gaze quickly shifted to the person she had bumped upon as she bowed slightly.
?I?m sorry, Ishamael.? She quickly moved down the stairs without waiting for a reply.
The young boy shrugged as he took the last step of the stairs, staring around himself as he breathed in the cold air, the winds ruffling his hair slightly. His gaze moved upon the dark haired girl as he tilted his head slightly, shaking his head as he moved a few steps towards her though remaining at an earshot. She did not even move though his eyes trailed her tears for a moment, before he shrugged, breath escaped his lips as he shook his head slowly.
He took a cigarette stick out from his pocket, his head remained tilted, remaining upon her, ?You don?t mind??
She did not reply, the tear upon her cheek swept by the winds though the trail still upon her eyes.
He shrugged once again, moving his hand to place the cig upon his lips as his free hand took a small lighter from his pocket, flicking it on as he let the flame light the cig, replacing the lighter back in his pocket, a stream of smoke escaping his lips.
Moments of silence passed as they continued to stare upon the horizon, though the young boy glanced upon the dark haired girl a few times before he shrugged off the thought of asking her what was wrong. A soft cough escaped her lips just as a stream of smoke escaped once again upon the young boy?s mouth. He took the cig off his lips, staring upon it slightly then upon her once again, though he moved it back upon his lips, taking one more whiff upon it.
The dark haired girl slowly turned towards him, taking the cig upon his lips as she stared upon its lit end, placing it upon her lips as she took a breath from it, though she quickly pulled it out of her mouth, coughing hard as she held her chest. He moved his hand upon hers; attempting to take the cig from her though she held it quite tight, as if not to give it to him.
He frowned as he voiced out a bit loudly, ?The Hell Are You Doing?! That?s My Last One!?
She moved her gaze upon him, her eyes filled with sorrow and tears; she moved the cig upon her hand, pressing the lit part against her skin as it made a mark, dousing it as another tear pushed down her cheek. She let it fall upon the ground, holding her hand, staring upon her burnt skin.
He took her arm, tilting his head slightly as he gazed upon the wound then upon her eyes, whispering, ?It?s not that bad? Sorry for that outbreak a moment ago??
Her eyes remained upon his, the same sorrow as before still upon them as she voiced softly, ?Am I alive??
A confused look moved upon the young boy as his lips parted slightly, uncertain of what to reply.
?Am I? alive?? She repeated as her eyes remained upon his, tears continuing to move down her cheeks, marking stains upon her light flesh.
?You?? He paused, uncertain of his reply, moreover of the question, ?You?re? alive??
Silence crept upon them once again, though her eyes remained upon his. He slowly moved his hand upon her cheek, gently drying her tears, though she quickly tilted her head, her eyes moving to the side to look upon his once again.
?It hurts?? She whispered, though her voice still contained the same sorrowed tone.
A smile moved upon his lips as he nodded slightly, ?Yes? Burns do that sometimes??
He moved his hand upon her cheek once again; though this time she did not tilt her head away.
?I hate you?? She whispered, softly sniffing before she continued, ?I hate everyone??
He tilted his head slightly, blurting out, ?Why??
Her form fell upon his, pushing him down to a sit as her tears dampened the shoulder of his shirt, her arms moving around him, trying to find some sense of comfort.
?I hate everyone?? She voiced out softly, her face burying upon his shirt, pushing upon her form upon his, ?They do nothing? only to hurt me??
He hesitantly moved his arms around her, running upon her back in an attempt to comfort her, ?I?m sure they just??
?Sometimes?? His voice was cut as she whispered upon his ear, ?I just want to die??
His eyes widened slightly as he tilted his head towards her ear, ?Don?t say th??
?Why do they hurt me, Ishamael?? Her voice was weak though her head remained upon his shoulder.
The young boy was uncertain of what to say. He knew who the dark haired girl was, though somewhat too silent, she wasn?t all that bad. He didn?t hate her, but then again, he didn?t know her too much. Whenever she would begin to stare at him without a word, he would just shrug it off, after all, it was only a glance.
Silence moved between them for what seemed like forever, her head still placed upon his shoulder, her eyes still pushed out tears as she held herself closer to him. Who was he to her that she would be so close, he did not know. Suffice to the fact that this seemed to bring her comfort, even if it was only a slight and though it did not really matter if he was there or not, did it?
He held her in his arms, an uncertain embrace as her arms around him tightened slightly, her head titled back, and her eyes locked upon his as their light blue color glistened slightly upon the high sun. Sweat moved down from his forehead, out of nervousness or the sun?s heat, did it really matter?
?Ishamael ?? She whispered softly as her form moved closer to him, her head slowly moving towards his, her lips inching slowly to his, her eyes moving to a half close.
Breath escaped his lips as he felt the warmth of her mouth. His eyes held wide open, his chest heaving with nervous breaths as she tilted her head, shifting the position of her lips against his. After a few moments, he pulled his head away, though a bit forcefully as his head moved towards the cement roof, making a light thud as he frowned, his arm moving behind his head, he took a glance at it, sighing softly as he saw nothing wrong. He looked upon her once again as she sat upon him, her eyes still brimming with tears.
?Don?t hate me?? Her voice was an inaudible whisper as she spoke again, ?Don?t hate me??
?I exist? Don?t hate me? Don?t look away? Please, look at me?? She whispered through sobs, her voice slowly gaining volume as she spoke, her form moving down to lay against his.
?Don?t look away? Look at me? I?m alive? Don?t hate me? Don?t leave me?? She kept repeating these words as she cried against his chest.
His arms wrapped around her once again as he moved one hand up, moving some hair on her face to the side of her head.
A soft shush escaped his lips as he whispered softly; seeming that only they could hear, ?Calm down, Ashley??
He sat up, though still holding her in his arms, moving his hand to shift her skirt, lifted by her movement, down to cover her legs, though she did not make a movement, only soft breaths after each sob.
?I don?t care?? She whispered once again against his ear, ?Do whatever you want? just don?t leave me??
Don?t hate me?
He held her closer, only in an attempt to comfort her, closing his eyes to gather his thoughts, though he blurted out, ?I?m here??
The bell rang, just as it always did, though it did not matter to them.
?Tell me something?? the dark haired girl voiced as her head moved, cushioned upon his shoulder.
His free hand scratched his head slowly as he voiced out, ?Eh? What??
?Anything?? She spoke once again, her voice slowly moving out of its sobbed state, ?Your past? What happened this morning?? Anything??
He sighed softly. It was quite weird for her to ask this. In truth, it didn?t really make any sense. What did she want to know? Why did she want to know? All were hidden in a cloud of tears, though disguised, he was still uncertain of what to do.
?I want to forget?? She voiced, as if for explanation, ?I want all the pain to go away??
Make me forget?
He nodded slowly, voicing out the first thing that came into his mind, ?A year ago, me and a couple of my friends were sorta drunk??
A confused smile moved upon her lips, though it could not conceal her sadness from before, ?Sort of drunk??
He rolled his eyes, ?Well, okay? We were hella drunk? Then we had some kind of trip in town? Singing Christmas carols in the middle of July??
Soft breath escaped her lips, seeming like a laugh, her voice calming, ?Why did you do that??
He shrugged, ?Dunno? Maybe you weren?t listening about the part that We Were Drunk!? his voice took out a sense of sarcasm, though it quickly dissipated, a lump moving upon his throat, hard to gulp in as he voiced, ?Are you alright with this??
She tilted her head slightly, her brow rising, ?Alright with what??
He loosened his embrace around her, though his arms still supported her back to sit upright, ?I mean? this??
She nodded slowly, her head leaning more against his shoulder, nudging it with her gesture, her voice almost too soft to be heard, were her head not close to his, ?Just a few more moments??
He nodded as well in reply as she sighed upon his chest, as if listening to the very beat of his heart.
?That was stupid?? She voiced after a moment of staring off at the distance, her head tilting back, her eyes upon him.
His lips parted as his brow moved to a raise, ?Huh??
?Getting drunk?? She voiced, her hand resting upon his as her eyes locked with his, a silent gesture before she spoke again, ?What made you do it??
He rolled his eyes once again, a breath escaping his lips, almost like a laugh, ?If it isn?t obvious already? I?m a guy and stupid things are a guy?s eta??
?So you?re stupid?? She voiced through a giggle, an almost playful expression as his eyes told of slight irritance.
?I?m not that stupid?? He voiced back in defense, his voice lowering slightly, ?Just a bit??
?So the story was false?? She titled her head, her eyes moving to gaze upon his.
?It was true?? He laughed softly as he spoke once again, ?You?re not going to let this go, are you..??
Her features moved slowly to a playful gaze of doubt, then it softened as she nodded, ?Alright? I believe you??
The young boy shrugged slightly, a bit meekly voicing out, ?Sorry? I know the story is kind of corny but? it?s all I could come up with on short notice??
She nodded, shifting her form upon his arms, a silent reply, no other words escaping her lips. He breathed in quite unstably. It was fine that they were talking, moreover that her past glow existed now, slowly growing as her eyes moved upon his. He fell silent as she smiled, her brown eyes never leaving his for a moment.
His hand slowly moved upon her forehead as her head tilted, her eyes from a smile to a confused look. He shook his head slowly, moving his hand back down.
?Huh?? She voiced out, her hand absently moving upon his, though it seemed so.
?It?s just that?? He gulped, trying to gather his words, ?Well? you don?t really act this way. I guess I was expecting? by now, you would be jumping off me and calling me some kind of pervert? Maybe give me a skin reddening slap? I just thought that you were sick.?
A soft giggle escaped her lips as she shook her head slowly, ?Why? Do you want me to do that??
He shook his head a bit vehemently, ?No? I mean? well, it?s kinda.... weird? that?s all.?
She gently pushed herself off him, standing straight as she offered her hand towards him. He nodded in reply, helping himself stand up, though before she could move her hand to her side, he took it upon his, though his eyes were upon the floor.
Strangely enough, a slight tint of crimson moved upon her cheeks, though she was perfectly calm when upon his arms, this seemed different. His eyes moved upon hers with no smile, only a silent gaze. She held her breath for a moment, uncertain of what to say, moreover of what to do, though her hand didn?t even attempt to leave his, accepting the warm gesture.
His expression quickly changed as he smiled towards her, ?You?re a weird girl??
She smiled a bit widely, nodding to him as she voiced, ?We had better get in??
He nodded in reply as he released her arm, the thought of giving everyone else an idea of whatever their perverse minds could conjure, though he was not completely against the thought. She was beautiful after all, though at times, she was too silent, in a sense she had been cute, for him at least.
?Can you?? She bit her lip, seeming to forget what she was saying, her eyes wandering around the skies, trying to find the right words, ?Will you? be? my friend??
His lips parted slightly, a long moment seemed to pass as they stared endlessly upon each other?s eyes. His breathing was calm though it was quite obvious that he was hiding what he truly felt. He shook his head off the daze as he stared upon the floor, thinking of the thing most apt to say.
?I am?? He whispered a bit meekly as his eyes moved towards hers once again, ?We are friends, right??
Her features softened, her smile unlike any other that she had shown before. Where usually a cold expression crossed her face, now was something that was, in a way, something quite unusual, especially from her. To describe it more will be quite difficult; to explain it vaguely it was a? vulnerable smile, weak in a way, yet still bearing that beauty that only such a smile could give.
His head tilted to the side upon her scattered books, his hand running upon his head, scratching it slightly with the accompany of a shake, crouching over to her books, taking one over the other until they were a small pile in his arms.
She moved closer, nodding her apology as she offered her arms forward to take the load off of his, though he quickly wrinkled his forehead, shaking his head without another word, tilting his head towards the stairway, allowing her to move forward.
She paused, staring at him, a confused expression no one could paint, her voice once again that soft uncertainty, ?Your books? Where??
?You know me well enough to be too lazy to lug books around?? He flashed the slightest smile towards her, pushing her arm lightly to move on, his voice once again pushing through, ?We?re already late??
She nodded once again her thanks, taking the front as she whispered half to herself, her voice almost too soft to be audible, ?You?re not really lazy? Just? different??
He raised his brow as a laugh escaped his lips, voicing from behind her, ?Was that a complement??
She paused, turning her form slightly, her eyes upon him as she nodded her head on the slightest, with the smallest curl upon the edge of her lips, yet no words escaped her mouth, her expression an all too serious one.
He licked his lips as he tilted his head once again for her to move on, voicing towards her with a slight laugh, ?We better get going? My class is two floors from yours??
She remained still, thinking for a moment of something he could never quite figure out, before she nodded in reply, a sigh escaping her lips, her shoulders lowering noticeably as she moved off down towards the floor.
Their steps echoed through the empty hallways, not another word coming out from each of them, though each moment they would glance at each other with the slightest smiles upon their faces. As they neared the door to her room, she hummed a tune until the final step to her door.
For some reason or another, he did not stop, pushing the door open for her as the class quickly moved to silence, the instructor and everyone else staring at them, though he didn?t stare back. She however, had an almost obvious crimson tint upon her cheeks, her eyes staring down. The gazes of everyone were upon them as they moved towards her seat. He placed her books just by her desk as he took a glance back to her, tilting his head in farewell.
Just before he left, her hand strayed upon his, holding it for a moment as whispers and ooh?s from the class echoed through, quickly silenced by the instructor, impatient as it seemed of his presence still here.
He didn?t take any notice as he remained for the moment that she still stared down upon her desk, though her grasp upon his hand remained a bit tight, not wishing to let him go, the crimson upon her cheeks deepening with the comments she could hear around her.
He crouched slightly, his eyes meeting hers as she spoke slowly, her voice still the same soft tone, almost uncertainly shy in a way, ?Thank? you? Ishamael??
Another breath escaped his lips, almost like the softest of laughs as he nodded, ?Just call on me if you need anything? Friend??
She smiled, an even deeper crimson forming upon her cheeks, her final expression as she released his hand, one final glance upon his eyes before she stared back upon her desk.
He left the room with the resume of the class, his eyes back upon the closed door as he stood silent in the hallway. His hand moved upon his pocket, feeling for a cig, only to realize that she had doused his last one. He only smiled to himself as he once again moved through the hallways, his steps echoing, the only sound upon the empty space.

Unexpected Comfort
A man is not a man until he has accessed his raw untamed energy and takes pleasure to his capacity to fight and defend himself. Only then can he transform his blind rage into power to commit himself, to handle tensions and to make difficult decisions. Inner security also develops. It is based on his realization that whatever goes wrong, he can get help from his inner resources, from the basic energy of his aggression.
