It's all a matter of commitment. You set a goal, and you do everything possible to meet that goal. I've only finished one series that I'm half-way proud of. The others are still in progress, and they've been in progress for over a year. The amount of time it takes you to finish the story doesn't matter (within reason, I suppose), just as long as you follow through and finish.
Also, when you get an idea, sometimes it's not always best to make it into a story right away. More specifically, you may want to give your imagination enough time to work with a smaller idea, so that it can, perhaps, expand on it. That's how most of my series were started. A plot bunny hopped into my brain, and I just kept it in the back of my mind, letting it multiply into many more little bunnies. ^_^ Eventually, I had enough material for a longer, more complicated story.
However, I definitely agree with planning things out. I usually make notes for my stories, so that I don't forget my ideas over time. Also, take breaks between series. I, technically, have about four series going on at once right now. When I get tired of writing one, I'll pick up on one of the others. Or, if you'd rather, you can write some short stories between series chapters. That's another way to keep yourself from losing patience with longer works. At least, that's what helps me.
I hope this helps you somewhat. Good luck.

The Importance of Tomorrow:
The clarity of the hindsight we obtain from a new day may be 20/20, but it provides us with biased knowledge of the experiences and emotions that were-- Not what could have been, if only we had the chance to look through those premonitory eyes.

How do you start off writing? See, for a while now (not quite long, but not recently either)--like...3 months--I've been dying to write a half way decent fic (Nighttime Activities not included...I was actually proud of that one
). The words just can't seem to come out. I know what I'm going to do, and how to do it...I just *can't* write it...it absolutely refuses to come out ><...HELP :-?

What I do is write whatever will come out, which is why somoe of my dialogue is crap...., but yeah. I write what will come out then go back and edit it. It helps that I have a friend who I think will become one of the next big writers of the world, proofread for me and I can tell her how hard of a critic I want her to be.... But yeah, just write what will come out then edit it later or give it to a proofreader that you trust to be honest and help you.

Insanity is essential to writting.

A wierd part about writing when your in some type of inspired zone, you look at how much you write and it is little compared to others. Me personally i get a page and a half done on a good day. I can hardly write a long fic without losing interest or patience. I know what you mean Angel it happens to me A LOT!
But I try to believe what i think Andrea or someone who writes a long fulfilled fics. It is not the quanity but the quality. ^_^ makes me feel better every time.
I'm still working on the notes thing...your not alone angel not in the least.
*bunny hops in front of LC* Wanna bunny? That'll cheer you up! *LC leaps for the bunny but misses* Damn that is fast thing! Don't worry*runs after it* I'll catch it *trips* Sometime in this century
