The toughest critic...?
Does anyone else seem to have trouble liking their own work?
A couple of days ago I noticed that someone had posted a link and review to one of my stories on his recommended reads page, and I was shocked.
My good friends and co-writer Ryan says I have no appreciation for my own work. Others say I have taken modesty to far.
So does anyone else have this problem, and is there a cure?

Have you had your recommended daily allowance of ravishing?
I believe in love stories but despise romances.
I want to write fics that slap all the standard fanfiction conventions around the face with
a wet fish and call them Betsy ~ me to Wicked.
Cupid's arrow is really a nuclear warhead...it leaves total devastion in it wake.

i like it for a little while, then I go back and read it and discover it is a piece of crap and I question why I ever liked it. I really don't think there is a cure. In my college prep writing class, we were taught to be our toughest critics and our biggest fans. One position and the other were hard to take. However, if you examine the strengths and weaknesses of your works, you will go away from what you actually wrote and find your strong points. I'm sure this does not cure the toughest critic, but it helps you like your work a little bit more.

hm...idk...tough question. for a while, i'm satisfied with what i write. but then i have a few good friends read it beforehand as sort of a test...then i give it to my beta...my beta usually finds something off about it and i wonder how good of a writer i really am...but then i forget about it and use that mistake to grow and change my writing, hopefully improving it.

Beer modest...hah!
honestly, you are your own worst critic. I am! Seriously, maybe you are right, but being a perfectionist isn't easy! I disppair all the mistakes I find in my story. I even print them out and beta them after they are summitted. Believe me, those pages are COVERED in red!
I think it's good to be harsh on yourself. You don't get a big head, you are more open to constructive critism, and you are always striving for perfection.
Too bad we can't have that in Club Beer!

I think most writers are their own worst critics. I usually love what I write right after I finish it and then look at it later and go "gah!" Sometimes, I am pleasantly surprised that something I thought wasn't so great was better than I thought, but usually I find more to critique. I think all writers are a little like that!

Definately. I feel the same way. Every time I recieve a review for one of my earliest works and reread the content of the fic, I cringe. The ones I don't have posted yet are even worse; sometimes I just want to delete them, so no-one will ever find out how horrible they are.
And the next day, I write a bit of a new story and feel all giddy and peruse my archive feeling like I'm the best writer in the world. :-?
