Chapter 7: Meeting of the Two Times (Part 2)

Inuyasha and Kagome took their seats opposite Sousuke and Kaname. The coffee shop was large and noisy. Perfect for discussion, since no one would overhear them. They were lucky they did not have to wait long for their seats. The coffee shop was considered one of the most popular places in the entire Tokyo, as it was known for having the best mocha in the city. It was, however, not known for being inexpensive. Kagome herself had been here only once, and that was when she went shopping with her Mom.

Kagome picked up the menu, took a look, and grimaced. Yikes! The prices for most drinks were high.....much higher than she thought. The worst part was that she had to buy for Inuyasha too! She definitely felt that paying this much for a drink was not worth it. There goes my allowance for the rest of the month, she thought sarcastically to herself.

Kaname picked up the grimace from Kagome's face. Stupid Sousuke. We could afford to come to this place, but maybe not them. Or at least they may not prefer here. She whispered to him, "Can you treat them this time?"

Sousuke nodded. It was obviously not a problem. How could it be when he owned a bank account that was probably twenty times more than what an average student may have in his or her account?

"Inuyasha and Higurashi, this will be my treat. Please feel free to order whatever you want. I will be more than happy to provide you a decent drink while we have our discussion."

Kagome objected, "No we can't do that, Sousuke. You are just like me, an average student myself. You can't have that much money." She was being honest.

Kaname held up her hand and only laughed. "Don't worry. I think once we started sharing our tales, you won't think that way anymore."

Inuyasha turned to Kagome. "Kagome, if they insist, there is nothing that we can do. We can always treat them next time."

Kagome finally relented after finding Inuyasha's input satisfactory to her liking. She would make sure that there would be NO next time however.

Sousuke and Kaname both ordered a caramel frappucino. Kagome decided to go with their best product, their mocha. And Inuyasha?

"Yo Kagome, what the hell is mocha? And hot chocolate? Coffee? Huh?"

"Ohhhhhh," Kagome sighed, "just order a mocha like me then. Take the best they can offer."

Inuyasha nodded. Kagome asked the waitress for one more mocha.

Kaname was surprised at Inuyasha. The boy didn't even know what mocha and coffee and hot chocolate were! And she thought Sousuke was clueless enough already! Although the white-haired boy did seemed more socially capable than Sousuke when she first met him......

Sousuke was surprised too. He had come to realize that some of his knowledge and actions may be what Kaname considered "otaku" and not understandable to most civilians. But coffee and hot chocolate were not otaku terms. Maybe mocha, but definitely not the first two. And Inuyasha did not know any of them.

They did not even realize that their faces showed a sign of confusion at Inuyasha. Kagome saw it though and knew what was wrong. "Inuyasha......he is a figure from the past. He does not belong to this era."

As the confused pair opposite them inquired further, Kagome told them everything. The Shikon Jewel, how it was found in her body. How she got involved when she was dragged back into the past. Her adventures with Inuyasha, as well as with the rest of the gang, in finding the jewel that was shattered. How they defeated Naraku. What they might plan to do with the jewel once they got it back. And of course, their encounter with Gauln.

After Kagome finished, Sousuke only nodded, deep in thought. Kaname was shocked at first, but was eventually curious. She could only be shocked for so long when she had gone through some of her own wild experiences with Sousuke.

All four proceeded to take a sip from their drinks. Sousuke could only utter one word: "Fascinating."

"It is, Sousuke," Kagome replied. "I didn't believe it myself at first."

Inuyasha then decided to change the topic. "Yo Sousuke, you said you fight but you also go to school. Tell me more on that."

Sousuke then told the dog-demon and the miko about how he was fighting ever since he was a kid in Afghanistan and how he eventually joined Mithril. He did, however, leave out Mithril's name but instead said he joined a "secret crime-fighting organization that fights against terrorists". He wanted to avoid letting people know about Mithril as much as possible. After all, its missions could only be accomplished when no one knew about them. Besides, he did not think that Inuyasha and Kagome really needed to know the details.

He then talked about his current mission of protecting Kaname, a Whispered. He simply spoke of her as a "walking encyclopedia of advanced technological knowledge." Again, he did not want to go into too much details.

Inuyasha and Kagome both knew that there should be more than what Sousuke had just said, but decided against asking further. That would be enough for now.

This time it was Kagome who was shocked after Sousuke finished. "I didn't know someone so young can be a soldier......and to think of someone about the same age as me fighting terrorists......"

"I have no choice, Higurashi. I have been fighting since young, and this is all I have known until I had this mission of protecting Kaname, where I get to go to school and be a normal civilian for the most part."

Kagome really felt pity for Sousuke. She realized how lucky she was. In a way, Sousuke was like Inuyasha. They never really had a normal life, and often have to scrap just to survive.

Inuyasha had only one thought on Sousuke. He's a warrior. I will be glad to fight and die with him. Anyday, anytime. He did not even realize that he really admired Sousuke.

Kaname was glad. Finally, someone else appreciated Sousuke for his actual work, not just her.

Kagome thought back to what Kaname said before when Sousuke offered to treat her and Inuyasha. She asked Sousuke, "How much do you get paid for your works?"

Sousuke only shook his head. "I hadn't really thought about that and had forgotten the specifics, simply because I am not that interested in the money as long as I can survive. I am only doing my job, but my employer wires money to a Swiss Account that is given to me. The last time I checked, I think I have seen a seven-digit figure. I am paid in US Dollars, Higurashi." Sousuke said it matter-of-factly.

Kagome almost swooned. He had at least ONE MILLION US DOLLARS in his bank account!?

Inuyasha admired Sousuke even more. He fought not for material profits. Instead he risked his life for good and justice. He definitely did not mind fighting and dying with him now. He was the best warrior that Inuyasha had seen in a long time.

Kaname gasped in surprise. Even she did not know Sousuke had that much money. She could drag Sousuke with her to Hawaii at least fifty times using his money!

She was peeved and said to Sousuke, "I didn't know you have that much money......what are you going to do with it? HUH!?" Her face clearly gave a "Those money are better used for me" look.

Sousuke was calm. He was prepared. "What else, Kaname? To survive? And to take care of my loved one......"

Kaname's heart melted, "Oh Sousuke......" She gave him a quick peck on the cheek.

Kagome blushed at the sight. She had a sudden urge to do it to Inuyasha too.

Inuyasha only muttered, "Just great......women......."

Sousuke resumed talking about business. "Inuyasha, I do not think there is much we can do now, since Gauln is probably gone from Japan for now."

"Gone from Japan?" Inuyasha had never imagined THAT.

Sousuke remembered Inuyasha's roots. "Yes, transportation is now advanced enough to travel from one country to another, even over seas and oceans. Actually, we can even travel out of our planet, into other stars. We have had astronauts travelled to the Moon before." Perhaps the half-demon could understand now.

"I see......" Inuyasha still could not imagine it, but he believed he would eventually understand. "So there are stuff even better than a bicycle......"

Kaname smiled, "Hey, Inuyasha knows about a bicycle!"

Inuyasha replied, "Yeah, Kagome always brings one back to my era. I'm much faster than that dingy thing though."

Kagome was pissed. "It's not dingy!"

"Yes it is! Sometimes I ended up carrying your stupid bicycle when it can't be used! Which is......a lot of times......" To Inuyasha, speed and efficiency was all that matters, and bicycle did neither.

"I didn't ask you!"

"You did!"

"Did not!"

Kaname only laughed. Even Sousuke managed a smile on his stone face.

Inuyasha and Kagome stopped arguing. Their faces were red again. They made quite a scene with their argument.

"Anyway," Sousuke continued, "Gauln is likely out of the country now, and his re-emergence may not even be known to most. I don't think we can locate him in a while. I will, however, speak with my commanders about the matter. I will tell them about Gauln but may have to let them know about the jewel, Inuyasha, but I can assure you that you can trust them just as you can trust me."

Inuyasha nodded. "I am fine with that."

"Higurashi, please give me your phone number or any way to contact you. Once I have any information, I wish to inform you and Inuyasha as soon as possible."

Kagome took out a paper and pen and wrote her cell number.

"Higurashi, please also jot down Kaname's phone number, in case of an emergency or any breakthrough from you two."

"Why only Kaname's, Sousuke?" Kagome was clearly perplexed. Not that she didn't mind having Sousuke's number as well.

"I do not want Kaname to beat me up since she does that everytime a girl gave me her number or vice versa."

Kagome laughed. Sousuke must be a popular guy. And Kaname must be awfully possessive of him.

"SOUSUKE!" Kaname shouted and beat his head with the halisen a couple times.

"That hurts, Kaname." Sousuke rubbed his head.

Kagome turned back to Sousuke. "Sousuke, I do not think that's wise. What if Kaname had an emergency? Or her cell is off? Let's say I get both your numbers, but I will make sure I call Kaname first everytime, OK?

"That sounds good. Higurashi, you are indeed very wise." Sousuke offered honestly. He wrote his and Kaname's number to her. Kagome blushed.

Inuyasha only muttered, "Yeah right. Kagome is wise? HA! Not in a million years!

Kagome heard it, however, and had an evil grin on her face. "Now I have a reason to punish you, doggy......" Payback time!

Inuyasha realized it was too late. He finished his mocha, closed his eyes, and waited for the inevitable.

Kagome decided to play with Inuyasha a bit. She faced Sousuke and Kaname, who was apologizing to her boyfriend with kisses after the halisen judgement. "Kaname, I have my own kind of punishment too, but I don't use halisen. It takes too much energy to swing hard. I do something else."

Kaname was curious. "What is it?" She wondered if she could use Kagome's same move on Sousuke also.

Kagome seemed to read her mind and said to Kaname, "Sorry, Kaname. Only I can use it. Around Inuyasha's neck there is a bead that restrains him once I say one word. It works only when I say that word. I COULD ask for my friend to make one for you if you want it on Sousuke......"

Sousuke grimaced. He still could never understand completely how women functioned. Why do women want to injure men so bad at times? Is it perhaps because of different biological composition in a woman's brain that caused such irrational behavior?

Kaname was hooked. "Kagome, what is that word?"

Inuyasha had that "No, please don't!" look at Kagome. He turned to Kaname and had the "Please save me" look.

Kaname only smiled sweetly at Inuyasha. She was too curious to save him now. Too bad. Now she had an evil grin and nodded to Kagome.

Sousuke could only watch helplessly at Inuyasha. His look said "I failed you as my fellow comrade, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha gave him back an "I understand, you did nothing wrong" look.

Kagome looked at him as if he was some insect trapped in a spider web. Tasty. This is TOO good. This is one way to get him back for putting her through all those catcalls in school today. It is his fault after all!

Inuyasha voiced out a small prayer. Oh shit oh shit oh shit. That was the start of the prayer.

"SIT!"

Inuyasha came crashing face-down.

Kaname was clearly impressed and considered asking Kagome to ask her friend to make one of those beads. Sousuke actually liked the halisen now.
