Chapter 6: Meeting of the Two Times (Part 1)

Sousuke spent the rest of the day thinking of one thing.

Gauln.

Why was he still alive? Wasn't he dead? Didn't I kill him the last time on the Tuatha Da Danaan?

There were questions that were even pressing, ones that might affect his and especially Kaname's safety. If what Inuyasha, that white-haired boy, said was correct, Gauln was there just moments ago. Was he spying on him? Or Kaname? Or both?

And why was Inuyasha in this whirlpool of trouble?

"Gauln, you said?" Sousuke stammered after dropping his gun.

"Yeah, it seems like you know him! Tell me where he is!"

"But......he was supposed to be dead!"

"......WHAT!?"

"Dead, because......I killed him."

Inuyasha was surprised at the news. At the same time he wondered about what Kagome said regarding killing people. Didn't she said that it was not allowed anymore in her era? It was "a crime," she said, "a crime that will get you into trouble and punished. It's not like the feudal era where you can kill whenever you want. There are heavy consequences." Yeah right, Kagome. Still, Inuyasha quickly concluded that Kagome won't lie about something that could get HER into trouble as well if Inuyasha did do something rash. And something was even stranger. How could he have encountered Gauln if what he had just heard was true?

"I thought that killing people is a crime." Inuyasha wanted to clarify whether Kagome said about killing people being a crime was true or not.

"It is," Sousuke continued. "I'm an exception because I'm a soldier."

"A what?"

"A soldier. This is my primary job. Being a student is my second job."

"So you fight, basically?"

"Affirmative."

"And you studied at the same time?"

"Affirmative."

I'm meeting quite an interesting character, Inuyasha thought. Just like Kagome who had to juggle her studying and fighting together.

"I thought it is a crime to fight though, at least in here." Inuyasha was still confused somewhat.

"It is. I do not kill here, or try to avoid it as much as possible here in the city. I kill only when there are missions that may require such actions, and I have almost never had a mission in a city full of civilians, or non-soldiers, where there are laws that prevent such things from happening." Sousuke thought it would be better to add more descriptions for the white-haired hanyou in front of him.

"And you know Gauln?"

"He had been one of my fiercest enemies by far."

As they kept talking, they noticed someone was at the door leading to the roof. The blue-haired girl. Kaname. She had a look of apprehension on her face. "Sousuke! Class has already started!"

"Yes, Kaname. I will come soon. He is no enemy, do not worry."

Inuyasha realized that he had found another lead. Perhaps an even better one. A light bulb turned on. He had to hold onto this lead!

"Sousuke, don't just talk. MOVE!!" Kaname had her hands on her hips.

"Wait!" Inuyasha exclaimed just as Sousuke picked up his gun from the ground and began to follow his girlfriend.

"What is your name?" Inuyasha continued.

"Sagara. Sagara Sousuke. I take it that you want to continue on the topic at hand?" Even if Inuyasha did not ask, Sousuke would ask him to talk about the Gauln matter at another time anyway. He was worried.

Inuyasha could smell it too. The smell of extra sweat. That boy might be fearless at most things, but like any other warrior, there must be some things that he were afraid of. Gauln must be one of them. One of the few.

Inuyasha replied, "Yeah. When is it convenient for you? I do wish to tell you the whole story, although it may be unbelievable at first."

Sousuke looked down, deep in thought. "After school is fine. 4 at the Sengawa station will do?"

"That is fine. My name is Inuyasha, by the way." Inuyasha had no idea where that was. He could smell their locations anyhow. Besides, Kagome would know. Now he would have to persuade her to come. That could be ONE TOUGH JOB.

"SOUSUKE!" Kaname was never the patient type. Her halisen was in her hand, and she slapped it against the hinges of the door. The hinges barely survived. Inuyasha felt that being sat was probably better than THAT.

"Yes, Kaname, I'm coming." Then he faced Inuyasha. "That will be it then. I look forward to seeing you, Mr. Inuyasha." Sousuke was then practically dragged back into the school by the ear by Kaname.

Inuyasha stood in silence as he watched the two leave. He was glad that Kagome was rarely like THAT.

Inuyasha found a tree and decided to rest a little. It had been an exhilirating experience to meet that Sagara.

He was pretty much a throwback to the feudal era, when boys learned to fight at a young age. Yet it seemed that he was the exception rather than the norm. Sousuke really intrigued Inuyasha.

The half-demon also congratulated himself on finding such a great lead. First day and he found someone with great connections to the man he was seeking. Maybe Sagara may not help much, but clues here and there would still lead to a mystery solved.

And that Sagara could fight. He was very adept at handling his weapons. Very proficient. Very calm, never panicking. At least until he heard Gauln's name.

So Gauln must be one of the big villains in this world. A modern-era Naraku perhaps. Just as Gauln brought chills on Sousuke, Naraku caused Inuyasha to shiver a little bit. But Naraku was destroyed now; he should set his thoughts on destroying Gauln.

He decided that he must work with Sousuke to not only kill Gauln, but to get the jewel back. Although he did not like the idea, he had no choice but to let the soldier/student know about the jewel.

He closed his eyes for a little bit. He took a quick nap. When he woke up, he decided to wait for Kagome at her school. There was less than an hour left before Kagome was let out.

Kagome managed to survive the day without too many more catcalls. By lunch everyone heard of Kagome's method of arrival as well as her mystery boyfriend. Girls were clamoring for Kagome to tell them how she met him. Of course Kagome could not tell the truth, and she repeatedly denied Inuyasha being her boyfriend, which only made things worse. It did not help that Inuyasha had already proclaimed to the entire class that he would pick her up after school. Argh! She was stuck with him!

Houjou approached Kagome at lunchtime. "Is it true that you have a boyfriend now?"

"Huh?" Kagome was surprised at the question.

"There were rumors about you being carried to school by this guy. Girls were all saying how hot he was. Is it true, Kagome?"

"It's true, Houjou, but he's......" Kagome actually could not spit out "not my boyfriend." Although Houjou was nice, she definitely did not want Houjou to be too close to her nor making any more advances toward her. At least for now. Especially with Inuyasha around.

"It's OK. Congratulations." Houjou smiled. He was convinced that Kagome had found herself someone she liked, and he was happy.

"Thankkk yooou," Kagome barely stammered. Houjou seemed all right. No shock on his face. No hard feelings. After all, she HAD rejected him once already after she was sure of her feelings toward Inuyasha. Geez, girl, don't think too much on this!

As she went on to her class after lunch period, she did think about something: Could Inuyasha ever become my boyfriend? My true lover?

She blushed at the thought.

The bell rang. School was over!

As soon as the bell finished ringing, Inuyasha popped out from nowhere into Kagome's classroom. "Kagome, it's time to leave. We got lots to do today!"

Inuyasha looked just in time to find out that the class AND the teacher were staring at the unexpected guest. They were surprised once again at Inuyasha's arrival. A quick one again.

The catcalls returned.

"Kagome, your boyfriend is waiting for you to pick you up! Got something to do with him?"

"Where are you two going afterwards? Some kind of HOTEL?"

"Kagome, do you WANT him THAT MUCH, so that you want him at your SERVICE as soon as school is done?"

Laughter everywhere.

Kagome was blushing. She faced Inuyasha and exclaimed the one word that Inuyasha dreaded, "SIT!!"

Inuyasha fell down. More catcalls.

"She made him sit. He must be a good doggie."

"She could make him do WHATEVER she wants!"

"Anything?"

"Anything! Poor guy could be spent......"

Inuyasha felt that he was sat for no apparent reason. "KAGOME! WHAT THE HELL DID I DO!?"

The entire class was enjoying this.

"Inuyasha! Why do you have to show up at such inopportune times? You COULD have waited for me at the front gates!"

"How am I supposed to know what time is inopportune!? GOD HELP ME!"

"Next time wait for me there then!" Kagome relented from shouting at him even more when she realized that Inuyasha had no fault in this. He simply showed up at the wrong place at the wrong time. Wait. Make that "almost no fault in this," or else she could not salvage any of her woman pride. But she did sit him even though it was not really his fault.

"Fine!" Inuyasha was seething. He did not mind getting sat if he was caught looking at Kagome bathing, even by mistake. That was totally uncalled for, however.

Kagome had a remorseful look on her face. "I'm sorry, Inuyasha." Her look meant it. It could melt any man's heart. Or a half-demon's heart, in that case.

Inuyasha took the message. He had a look of compassion on Kagome, but decided to act tough once again and be a man. "Don't do it next time without reason. It does hurt getting sat, you do know that. Anyway, a more pressing matter. But let's get out of here first."

Kagome obediently hopped onto his back. In a matter of seconds, they were gone.

"So, what now?" Kagome asked after the school was out of sight.

"We are heading to Sengawa Station. Can you lead me there first?"

Kagome pointed as Inuyasha continued.

"I found someone who may lead us to Gauln. How I don't know, but he could be a great help."

"Huh? Already?"

He recounted his adventures at Jindai.

"So that person you met actually met and had quite a history with Gauln?"

"Yes, that Sagara. If needed, I think we can work together."

"Can we trust him?"

"I'm sure we can. I can tell he was scared of Gauln. If he was not scared for himself, he must be scared for someone else. Someone like his girlfriend. He and I agree to meet at that station at 4."

"Inuyasha, we are here."

"All right." He laid Kagome down.

Although she would rather gone out with her friends or just enjoy herself on her first day back into the modern era in a while, she was quite worried about the jewel as well. Besides, they might not have leads everyday, and Inuyasha would HAVE to accommodate her eventually on the days that they would come up with nothing.

It seemed the half-demon had quite an interesting day while she was at school. She could only hope that he had not killed anyone.

"There he is." Inuyasha nudged at Kagome and pointed at their arrival.

He was cute and handsome. Kagome thought that he was the cutest guy next to Inuyasha. It was the blue-haired girl next to him holding his hand that caught her attention, however. She was pretty. Kagome had to admit defeat to her. She was drop-dead gorgeous. The miko was instantly jealous of her. She wondered if Inuyasha was attracted to that blue-haired girl. She hoped that their arrival were couples.

"Mr. Inuyasha. So good to see you again. We should find a place to sit."

"Sure, whatever. Let's get to business as soon as possible, Sagara."

"Affirmative. Perhaps I should introduce my girlfriend. Chidori Kaname." Sousuke pointed to the girl holding his hand. Kagome breathed a sigh of relief.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Inuyasha. What a strange name......" Kaname could not help her curiosity even though it was quite rude not to do so. Typical big-mouthed Kaname. "By the way, you can simply call me Kaname, and him Sousuke."

"She's my partner, Kagome." Inuyasha pointed to her. Kagome blushed at his choice of words. Kaname were surprised at how bold Inuyasha was, but then realized that he meant differently from what she had first thought.

"Inuyasha!" She punched Inuyasha hard. Turning to Sousuke and Kaname, she smiled and greeted, "Nice to meet you, I'm Higurashi Kagome."

Kaname winked at Inuyasha. "Great couple??"

Kagome had not finish blushing, and this time it was Inuyasha's turn to blush too. So now both were blushing. "No way! Her? Yeah right!" Kagome was simply too red to say even one word.

Kaname looked at Sousuke and said, "I told you they were an item, Sousuke!"

Sousuke was confused. "But Mr. Inuyasha said otherwise......"

Kaname only smiled at Sousuke's cluelessness. "They were too shy to admit it! Moron! Just like me before, Sousuke."

"Wait, Kaname, we really are not......" Kagome offered a weak rebuttal. How many of those did she offer today!

"Yes yes yes, you are not, Kagome." She smiled and winked. "I had been through that stage before."

Inuyasha decided to get back into business. That would help him stop blushing."Anyway, I think we should talk about what we should be talking about."

Sousuke agreed. "Affirmative. Mr. Inuyasha is right. We do not have much time. Perhaps we can do this type of socializing later, Kaname. I can promise you that if Mr. Inuyasha and Miss Higurashi are willing."

Kaname sighed, but she knew that Gauln's re-emergence worried Sousuke, and she decided she would not push the issue. Especially if it might concern HER.

Sousuke pointed to a coffee shop. "We can go there and talk. Is that good, Mr. Inuyasha and Miss Higurashi?"

Inuyasha looked at Kagome. She shook her head, signaling no problem. Inuyasha then nodded to Sousuke. "It doesn't matter to me. Let's just go in and get started!"
