InuYasha/FMP crossover Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Hanyou meets soldier

Inuyasha entered Jindai High. Its buildings are no different than Kagome's school. Its surroundings too.

He found that Gauln's scent was still there, but it was getting weaker. "Oh crap, did I arrive a second too late?" Inuyasha wondered to himself.

He eventually was at the spot where Gauln had stood moments earlier. He cursed. Gauln WAS here only a few seconds before. The person was gone, but the smell remained somewhat.

"Shit!" He cursed some more as he found out that he could no longer pick up Gauln's scent. The scent first tailed back into the front gate of the school and then it just disappeared, while the scent itself was gradually getting weaker. He must have left on those metal carts. Cars, that's right. Kagome explained that to him in one of his earlier trips to the modern era. He lost his lead.

"Shit!" He cursed again as an explosion occurred. It came from one of the classrooms, as something came down from the window onto the ground like a fireball.

"Holy, what the HELL!?" Inuyasha exclaimed as he instinctively ducked behind the nearest bush. The hanyou saw that it was a small package of some sort that was on fire and thrown out of the window. He decided to see what was going on. He got out of the bush and climbed up easily to the windows of the classroom that caused the explosion. He found some sort of ledge to plant his foot on, and he stood with his back against the wall and next to one of the windows.

He heard a shout. A girl's voice. "SOUSUKE!"

A guy's voice responded back. "Yes, Kaname?"

"Just what the hell are you doing!?"

"I noticed something suspicious in the package, Kaname. So I blew it up. You did remember about what the President [Hayashimizu] said about opening suspicious objects, do you?"

"GAAAAH.......that's not the point, you otaku!" A halisen slap followed.

"That hurts, Kaname. Anyhow, you should know better than opening suspicious objects. I do not want anything to happen to you."

Kaname only sighed. She did not know whether to blush or to slap him with the halisen again.

"Sousuke, what made this package suspicious to you? I thought you have toned down a little bit and should be able to judge things better by now......" Kaname was a little bit disappointed. However, Sousuke did improve remarkably in the course of his stay at Jindai. There were notably fewer explosions as Sousuke had now spend more than a year in a normal high school environment and had adjusted somewhat. Unfortunately, Kaname wished it was not "fewer," but "none."

"I shall give you a report."

"Go ahead, sergeant."

"On 1215 I received this small package that was addressed to me, left by one of the female students from the class next to us. She simply gave it to me and left, rather hurriedly. I cannot say why."

"Maybe it is a love letter? Again......" Kaname was not happy that Sousuke continued to have his share of his love letters from the girls in the school, even AFTER Sousuke and Kaname declared that they are an item. She knew that Sousuke was handsome and manly, but if it was a love letter, GOOD! Sousuke would have shattered another girl's heart and she would have one less competition!

Unlike Sousuke, Kaname had no longer recevied any love letters ever since, even though she continued to be a walking beauty in the school as well as an idol, a symbol of perfection. She assumed (rightly) because now that she is known as Sousuke's girl, all the guys were probably afraid that they might get detonated if they made even a slight move on her. Everyone in the school knew of Sousuke's proficiency with weapons. He could set up a C4 quicker than one could even finish saying "Arigatou."

So WHY did the boys stop sending me love letters while the girls did not seem to take MY existence into account when they kept sending Sousuke love letters!? Kaname thought. They must have forgotten that I could be quite violent myself. They WILL pay.......

"I do not know, Kaname. Anyway, the package was light, so I deduced that inside it contained objects that could be held easily by one hand. I first felt around the package. Inside there seemed to a flat rectangular box, but there was something else I could not yet figure out. I then put my ear against it. I heard ticking. I do not recall any other love letters that I have received have had ticking in them."

Kaname could easily guessed what the girl was trying to give Sousuke. The box must be chocolate. The ticking should be coming from a watch. Everyone must be thinking the same thought as Kaname was. Except Sousuke, of course.

"And?"

"So I detonated it, Kaname. That is obviously the safest course of action."

"No, you idiot! Why would a classmate harm you!? It must be chocolate and a watch that she was trying to give you!"

"We will never know, Kaname." Sousuke simply shook his head. He was clearly content and satisfied with his course of action.

"GAH......SOUSUKE!" Another halisen slap.

"That hurts, Kaname."

As he was hearing the commotion, Inuyasha took a peek at the window.

The shouting girl was pretty. Kaname, he remembered. Blue-haired, pretty face, and a GREAT body. A great body could be found no matter what era. But goodness, she was even worse than Kagome! Her delicate appearance definitely did not belie her short temper and wildness. She looked as if she could get out-of-control any moment. The hanyou smelled a decent scent around her. What was that word? Perfume. Kagome sometimes put those on, although he had no idea why. It was not as if SHE would look any better with them.

It was the guy with the brown and messy hair that intrigued him. Sousuke. He was calm and composed, and seemed to approach all matters seriously. Even Inuyasha felt that Sousuke was manly and handsome. No wonder he got those......what were they called? Love letters. Geez. The modern era could be so complicated. It was so much more simple in his era. Who invented the concept of love letters anyway!?

What impressed Inuyasha was Sousuke's smell. The soldier did not wear any cologne; that was not it. Not that the dog-demon would remember what THAT was called, but Inuyasha found out that he could smelled no fear in the man. No extra sweat. It seemed as if he would be prepared for anything and expect himself to take care of it in a matter of seconds. If that explosion was caused by him in quick fashion, then he could easily be classified as an experienced warrior who had fought numerous times. A modern warrior no less.

Inuyasha almost wanted to laugh as he saw Kaname raising the judgement of the halisen on Sousuke. He knew he could not, lest he would be seen. He could barely hold it into muffled giggles.

Maybe he was standing on the ledge for too long. That ledge most likely was not build for people to stand there. A small bit broke off the ledge and fell off onto the ground. He moved just a bit to balance himself, but enough for Sousuke to see a couple fingers stretching out.

In one quick motion, Sousuke bolted toward to the window where Inuyasha was standing and took out his gun. Inuyasha was not looking at the time since he was still balancing himself, but he smelled Sousuke's scent getting closer. Something metallic too. A sword!? Inuyasha's instincts told him to get away from his spot now. NOW.

He decided to jump upward onto the roof first. As he was leaping toward the top, he felt something speeding past him. Something metallic. They were not swords! What the hell were those things? But judging by their velocity, it seemed that pain would be imminent if he was hit. He darted left and right to fend off the oncoming metallic pests.

Sousuke, on the other hand, kept shooting at the intruder. White-haired boy in a red hakama. A sword at his side. Very, very quick. Almost like an animal. Sousuke had never seen anything this fast.

Sousuke yelled to Kaname, "Stay inside, Kaname. I will be right back."

Kaname stopped him. "Sousuke! It's almost class! And what are hell are you doing shooting bullets at nothing?" Unlike the soldier, she had no idea that someone was outside the window a moment earlier. Along with everyone else.

Sousuke continued, "It's not nothing, Kaname. Something was outside and now it seemed to be heading for the roof. As I said, I will be right back."

Kaname was flabbergasted. She simply gave up as Sousuke headed out of the classroom and onto the roof.

Inuyasha was on the roof. Dodging those metallic objects were not easy. He gasped for some air. He felt that he had to start his search somewhere else now, since his lead was lost a long time ago. He looked around his surroundings and sniffed, hoping to pick up Gauln's scent once again. No luck. However, he did picked up another scent. A rather unwanted one. That boy again. Inuyasha turned around and looked right at Sousuke's gun, pointing straight at him.

Great, thought Inuyasha. Maybe I should have gotten out of here first. Shit!

The hanyou and soldier stared at each other, neither making any move. Each were contemplating their course of action.

Finally the dog-demon made a move. He spoke. He judged that since the man he was facing seemed to take all matters seriously, he would take seriously whatever the hanyou had to say.

"I will be honest with you. I have no intention to harm you. I am simply here to search for something."

Sousuke remained calm, still gazing at his white-haired opponent. "What organization are you from? What are you searching?"

"Huh? What the HELL are you talking about? Organization? What the hell is that?"

Inuyasha was clearly confused. Sousuke saw that too.

Sousuke decided to rephrase his question. "Where are you from then?"

"Uh......" Inuyasha realized that if he said from the feudal era, even a serious guy like Sousuke would take him as an idiot at the very least. He looked perplexed too.

Sousuke himself was confused at the character in front of him. He seemed to know nothing! It was as if he was a fish out of the water.

"Hm, that is fine. You don't have to answer that too. But will you be able to tell me what are you searching for?"

Inuyasha thought about it for a while. He could not say he was searching for the jewel, because that again was a thing of the his own era. He got to say something that even modern people could understand.

"All right, man. This is the truth, and this is what I can tell you which I think you WILL understand. I'm searching for this guy. It seemed like he was here a moments ago. Then I heard an explosion from your room, so I was there for a while listening to you and your woman chit-chatting. Then you spotted me and here we are."

"How long were you there?"

"Ever since you threw that fireball onto the ground."

Even Sousuke was surprised. The white-haired man had an amazing stealth ability. The bomb was dropped at around 1235, and until Sousuke realized there was an intruder, it was almost 1300 already. There was no way he could have such ability if he was a civilian. He just could not! He must be a pro! Even the best of pros may not move as fast as he did!

Sousuke decided to go back to his questioning. "And what is the name of the person you are searching? Perhaps I can help." Sousuke decided that his opponent was telling the truth, no matter how clueless he seemed. Perhaps now he realized how Kaname must have felt when SHE had to deal with him.

Inuyasha spoke, "His name......is Gauln."

Sousuke shuddered. That name. That person. That maniac?

"Again, please." Sousuke barely managed those words out.

"Gauln! Can you hear me? How many times do I have to say it?" Inuyasha seemed quite irritated. He did NOT like repeating himself too many times.

Sousuke dropped his gun.
