InuYasha/FMP Crossover Chapter 3

Chapter 3: To Kagome's place

It was already near sunset when Inuyasha helped Kagome out of the well. The girl was most relieved that she had returned to her own time. The dog-demon did not care much now. They would work to get the jewel back one step at a time. He was satisfied that the miko was smiling once again. The jewel could wait.

"Inuyasha.......?"

"What?"

"Would you like to have dinner with my family?"

"Huh?"

"Dinner? With my family?"

"......" Inuyasha grunted a bit. He was not in the mood to see anyone he did not know well. But if it would make Kagome happy......

"Yeah, Kagome. Why not?"

"Great!" She shot off like an arrow back to her place.

Inuyasha was not only not in the mood to see anyone not close to him (even though he had seen Kagome's family before), he was simply not comfortable with the new, modern setting. Tall buildings could be seen in a near distance. People dressed different from him and more like Kagome, a rarity for him. There were considerably fewer trees. The things that bothered him more were the smell and sounds. They all smelled different than what he was used to.

This was not the first time he stepped foot on the other side of the well. He never liked to stay long, however.

He quickly followed Kagome to her house.

Inuyasha sat next to Kagome's bed. Kagome herself was on her bed. Sota came into the room after hearing her sister was back. He quickly noticed the surprise guest.

"Inuyasha! Why are you here? Are you......coming over to marry my sister?" An evil grin was on his face.

"What!?"

Both Inuyasha and Kagome blushed. Kagome wished she could sit Sota instead of the hanyou this time. Instead, she corrected him. "Of course NOT, Sota. What we had been doing in the past......we are going to do it now in this era also."

"Really?" Her younger brother's eyes lighted up.

"Yeah, kid. Meaning that I'm kinda stuck here." Inuyasha said.

"I don't think it's all that bad. I bet you like to be with my sister!"

"No, kid, I just need her for certain functions." Absolute denial.

"Only she can do it?"

"Of course, kid! Geez, when would you stop asking questions?" The kid could really get on his nerves sometimes.

"Oooooh, I see......" Sota had an evil grin. "I bet you need my sister again tonight right? I'm assuming you need to do that something with her every night?"

"What THE HELL!?" Inuyasha and Kagome blushed again. "Kid it seems that you want to spend the rest of the night up on a tree, right!?" Inuyasha began to clench his fists at Sota, the hanyou now showing an evil grin on his own face.

Kagome's reaction was similar. "SOTA!! YOU WON'T GET AWAY FROM THIS!"

Sota only laughed as he escaped into the safety of his own room.

Dinner went reasonably well, as long as Sota did not bring up his little joke with Inuyasha and Kagome. Her Mom was especialy interested in Inuyasha and asked him numerous questions about his and her daughter's adventures. Inuyasha gave a succinct account of some of them. Mrs. Higurashi was suitably impressed, not only at Inuyasha but also her daughter. Kagome seemed to be much more than she looked.

Mrs. Higurashi had one last question for the dog-demon before they all finished dinner. "How long will you stay here?"

Inuyasha simply shook his head. "I do not know."

"But why must you come here?" So much for that last question.

Kagome answered for him. "Someone from our own times stole the jewel that we have had been looking for all the time, Mom. Even though it sounds impossible, but Inuyasha was convinced."

Her Mom was puzzled. "Inuyasha, I'm sure Kagome had told you that even in this era there is no such time-traveling machines or magic."

Inuyasha was unwavered. "I just have a feeling that it is here. Besides, it will not hurt to try here first."

Her Mom saw his determination. She admired it. "If you are staying, feel free to live in our place. Let's say that this is our way of thanking you for taking care of Kagome back in your own era."

Inuyasha saw no reason to object, especially in this foreign setting. Although he hated to admit it, the more help he could get, the better. He simply nodded.

Sota chipped in, "I think Kagome likes that idea too. Right, Kagome? Inuyasha too!" He winked at them.

The two blushed. The rest simply laughed.

Kagome's gramps provided Inuyasha with a sleeping bed and put it a couple feet from Kagome's bed. The hanyou would rather sleep sitting up, Tetsaiga in hand. Again, he did not want to ruin the generosity of Kagome's family. He got himself into the sleeping bag, doing it the same way that he usually saw Kagome did it. Besides, her era seemed to be much safer than his own.

Kagome herself was getting ready for bed. "Inuyasha?"

"What?"

"Since we are back in my era, that means that I WILL go to school. I am NOT going to help you all the time, especially with all my tests coming up soon. That is that. You are going to do a lot of fishing on your own. Got it!?"

"Yeah, I got it! Geez! I know already!"

"Good! You are not going to bug me into not going to school just because you want me to help you find the jewel!"

"I know better than that! Kagome! Besides, this is what you always wanted to do more, anyway. Right?"

Inuyasha's question stopped her cold. She had to admit that it was pretty much a toss-up between school and jewel-hunting. She knew, however, that in the end she wanted to be simply a normal high-schooler again, going to school and having her share of tests and exams.

"Yes, Inuyasha."

"Well, good then! I understand that this is what you want. I'm not as cold and cruel as to take away what you had always wanted to do!" Inuyasha sounded a bit angry.

Kagome felt guilty. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for shouting at you before."

"It's no big deal. You better grab some sleep, idiot. If you are doing something that you had always wanted to do, you might as well do it with all the energy that you have. That means getting good sleep, moron."

"I got it." Kagome smiled. "Thank you."

"One more thing: pack all the books you need, idiot! I heard from Sota that you once forgot all your books and need to have Sota bring them all to you to your school. Don't be such a moron again, Kagome. Good night." Inuyasha turned to his side in his sleeping bag, facing away from Kagome.

Kagome kept smiling. Inuyasha, though he always acted tough and macho, could be so sweet at times......she blew a goodnight kiss at him and drifted into a deep sleep. She would deal with her brother later for leaking THAT to Inuyasha.

Note: I know I know. It had been everyone's favorite half-demon and his human girl so far. Next stop: Jindai High! Since I have read DD's "Christmas Cake" and "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" and liked it very much, I will take Sousuke and Kaname and the rest of the gang from there. The basic change will be that Sousuke and Kaname are now couples (finally).
