characterization question

Post by bebe_jinx »

I'm not to sure this belongs here but it is about Inuyasha. If I'm wrong feel free to move. Those of you who are familiar with my fic "Difference between Wanting and Needing" I have a question I hope you can answer. (I should really work on that getting a beta thing shouldnt I?)

I know Kagome gets angry with Inuyasha and leaves Fuedal Japan but she always comes back. Does she forgive Inuyasha when he apologizes....HAS Inu ever said sorry? I can't for the life of me remember right now. But has there been a time when Inu has apologized and said Kagome had come back to ancient Japan sooner?

Does Kagome go out of her way to ignore Inuyasha?

Those of you who have read my fic, does it seem like my Kagome would ignore him if Inu tried to talk to her? Does KAgome get so easily upset when faced with Kikyo as a wall? Or not being with Inuyasha the way she wants? It seems that way in other fics and I don't want mine to be like that but I feel as if I'm stepping in that direction. I'm trying to stay from cliches as much as possible (I know i know it's a high school fic that's kinda hard)

As for Kikyo, could someone tell me a truthful unbiased characterization about her? How do you see her? Too many people write her as a slut or a pyscho(SP?). She's not that and I'm trying not to give her an unfair deal.

Some have thought of Kikyo the moment when she died; full of betrayl and slightly numbed. But that angle just won't work here. Is Kikyo more controlled about what she wants? Her feelings and thoughts more concealed but not sneaky? I just don't know.

This fic isn't a love triangle but I don't think I can't get that across unless having to specifically have Inu say to Kagome he doesnt want Kikyo.

I can't do that. I have given Inu more understanding as to why he is with Kikyo. I think in my fic it is less about Inu deciding who to chose and more about loving and understanding Kagome. And for Kagome being less insecure and more forgiving and more trusting.

I have parts of the next chapter written but right now it just seems so ...messy. Thoughts jumping, nothing aligned but then isn't it like that in real life? My next chapter is very...internal. Alot of thinking, less talking and some realizations and I'm just trying to make them sound like...well them. Right now I'm trying to stay with the original characterizations as closely as possible with this situation.

::fustrastion::

any comments would be greatly appricated and are wanted. I would like as many perspectives on characterization as I can get. Thanks everyone.

I would envision Kikyo, in a high school fic, to one with the air of sophistication, intelligence, but deep 'coldness' in her appearance. She wouldn't show much emotion easily, but she wouldn't be like Sesshoumaru.

Hmmm....I've always found trying to truly describe the real Kikyo was difficult for fanfics unless you've put great thought into it and how she would interact with other characters. If you've read the manga, try to remember how she acted in it.

Gomen nasai, if this isn't helpful

In my opinion Kikyo is not really a bad person. She's someone who is uncomfortable in her own skin. Too many insecurities force her too put up walls that give the appearance of apathy but underneath she feels things too deeply and tries to make too much sense of things. In her world everything is black and white. Its either simple or complicated. She overlooks the gray area giving her image of a bitch when the truth is she just sees things differently and helpless to change the way she is.

Inuyasha on the other hand, I'm not sure about. I know he?s said the words I'm sorry but I can't remember for the life of me why he said it.

And Kagome is Kagome. She reacts to her anger immediately and them just as quickly gets over it. She will Ignore Inuyasha for a day or so but, and most probably without even realizing that she is, she'll talk to him again and things will be harmonized again. Inuyasha doesn't even have to say that he's sorry to soothe her anger. All he has to do is something considerate that shows he means well and she caves.

You can work around the K/I/K live triangle because in this fic Kikyo has already moved on. She is not part of the equation anymore. The only thing is getting Inuyasha to see that. So really this should be something internal and enlightening for him.

Okay that's it. I promise I'm shutting up now. :D

Hmmmm.... A lot of very good questions, and these are my answers:

Inu Yasha never went to Kagome's world to apologize to her as far as I know, but he has said he was sorry a few times, usually because he let her get hurt. Kagome's affection for Inu Yasha makes it difficult to resist him when he is being apologetic, so if you plan on having Inu apologize for some transgression then she would probably give in to him. Unless of course, he did something REALLY bad.

Kikyou's presence and Inu Yasha's reaction to it always hurst Kagome's feelings. The extent to which that happens depends on the situation.

Kikyou is... Complex. She loves Inu Yasha, but she IS dead... Since yours is a High School fic, she would probably act the way she did when she was still alive. She was very kind, tried to do what was right, but was also terribly lonely. She's sophisticated, confident in her abilities, and sometimes a little tempermental.

I hope that helps...

It could be worse, you could be a character in a John Steinbeck novel.
