And still I am wide awake.
As the day prepares anew
I go to watch over you.
A miracle, no less,
as I watch you sleep.
You look like an angel,
My dearest child serene.
When you open your eyes-
Your mother's eyes,
I know you're ready to scream
But you quiet as you focus on me.
I take you in my arms
And gently I mumble
How much I love you
How special you are.
On days like this
I forget my past
And it feels good
To not remember the battles
The turmoil. The emptiness.
The solitary prison.
I thank my fortune
for you and your mother.
Who know who I would be
If I never knew the power of love.
