Where do you write?

Got writer's block? Want to improve your prose? Grammar and spelling gotcha down? Then get out your sock puppets and chuck your sanity to the wind! (sanity is the number one block to writing)

Where do you write?

Post by Mellie »

In what room? Paper or computer?

I usually do it in my room. Mostly on a computer, but sometimes on paper. The ones on paper usually are more thought out and are ideas late at night

I usually write in my bedroom on my bed before I go to sleep in a notebook. By the time I'm ready to sleep I usually feel comfortable (sometimes too comfortable!) and that's the only time I can really write undisturbed. The chair at my computer desk is crappy so I usually get tired before I get much done.

A few years ago I was a hardcore scribber who took with her to bed a thick pad of paper and a pen/pencil writing into the wee hours of the morning. Now, I have graduated to the laptop typing, still into the wee hours of the morning, with or without proper lighting.

However, I've gotten used to the fact that not all the fanfic ideas will come to me at evening/night so I usually keep one of my handy notebooks in a bag/purse with me all the time. At home, it's me near the window with laptop, and multiple dogs starving for my attention. Rather distracting, but very adorable.

For the life of me, I can't write my thoughts down on paper. Don't know why. I get too distracted. ..Unless it's a poem I'm writing. Something I don't do frequently.

Whenever I get an idea for a story, I usually think it in Spanish; I always keep flashcards with me so that when the creative dwarves kick in, I can write down general thoughts/ideas, quotes and overall plot quickly before I forget! *falls over* I get distracted easily.

Now, creative dwarves have no schedule, so they can strike anywhere, anytime. If I have my laptop with me, like when I'm at university and I'm somewhat free, I start typing. Then when I get home, I transfer the file to my CPU which is much more comfortable for me. The problem of not being home is that I don't have my dictionaries with me, so I get stuck on words and phrases. Sometimes I remember the word in Spanish or French, but can't remember it English, or the other way around. It's frustrating!

Paper.

Currently I write at breakfast at the PK, one of two resterants here on the lovely island. My days off, at the Seaman's center, the other resterant. I can raely write at the barracks, due to the fact there is too much noise and too much distraction there. Work is worse.

Computer, because I'm too lazy to write it down twice.
