The Forgotten One (1/?)

Post by luved_by_bishie_duelistch »

Hello! I'm Dc. (or so I'm called anyway.) This is my first Inuyasha fic, and involves my ever-present OC Misty Neshea. Well, here's mah fic!

Disclaimer: I own Inuyasha about as much as I own Japan. Which, for anyone lacking common sense, means I don't own Inuyasha or anything besides Misty Neshea. (And don't own Shadi or the Sennen Scales, or anything else with Sennen in front of it.) A/N- :blah:= Misty to Riana/Richel (the ch is pronounced as sh.)
::blah::= Richel to Misty/Riana
:::Blah:::= Riana to Misty/Richel
PROLOGUE

A girl of many bloods has just returned to Japan from a 3-year expedition in Egypt. She is about 5'6"and has waist length sun-blond hair. Her skin has darkened from the years in Egypt, and her forest-green eyes sparkle with an inner fire. Beneath her T-shirt is an artifact given to her by a mysterious man named Shadi, called the Sennen Scales.

Her hair is pulled back into a very loose ponytail, so it covered her pointed ears. She is called ‘many bloods’ because she inherited 5 types of blood from her parents. ? human, 1/8 elf, 1/8 werewolf, 1/8 vampire, and 1/8 wolf demon. She knew these things, but chose to keep those facts secret. She had considered asking her parents, but didn’t want to anger them. All they had ever told her was to keep her ears covered to avoid being persecuted.

The Sennen Scales themselves were odd, but not nearly as what they possessed. An Ancient queen of Egypt’s soul was resided within them, as well as a former destined bearer of the scales. Riana was the queen, and the former bearer was a werewolf named Richel.

The Sennen Scales were part of a set of 10 items. The first was the Sennen Puzzle, which housed the Pharaoh’s soul. The others included: The Ring, The Key, The Eye, The Rod, The Necklace, The Dagger, The Flute, and The Pendant. But the story behind these items is for another day. (A/N- the sequel to this fic, and sister fics to the sequel are currently posted on another website, which I’ll be transferring to the ‘Other Anime’ forum soon.)

Chapter 1: The New Girl
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Kagome sat at her desk, working on some of the assignment she’d missed, when the teacher called for silence. “Quiet everyone. Before we begin the day’s lessons, I have an announcement. We have a new student joining our class today. Please welcome Misty Neshea.”

Everyone called out “hi’s” or “hello’s” when she entered the room. Misty was tall, about 5’6” with waist length sun-blond hair pulled into a very loose ponytail, bright, forest green eyes, and dark tan skin. Kagome thought something was odd about the way she wore her hair. Nobody she’d ever seen wore their hair that way… except maybe people from the past world that caused her to miss so much school.

Kagome’s thoughts were interrupted by the teacher speaking. “Misty, please tell us a little bit about yourself.” She gave a small nod and began. “Well, as you know, my name’s Misty Neshea. I’m originally from a town south of Tokyo, but have spent the last 3 years on an expedition in Egypt. It’s nice to have met all of you.” She ended with a small bow, and the teacher gave her a seat; right next to Kagome.

The hours passed quickly, and the dismissal bell rang. Kagome stayed seated and continued to work on her work. A little while later, she looked up and noticed two things. The first was that she had stayed after for near an hour, and the second was that Misty had left her pack. Kagome shrugged and wondered if she should take it with her or just leave it where it was. She decided on the latter as she already had so many books to carry home.

Kagome was just puzzling over how to fit the last two books into her bag when Misty came back in. “Hi Kagome. I didn’t think you’d still be here. I was making sure I knew where everything was and realized I forgot my backpack.” Kagome nodded and continued to puzzle over how to fit the remaining books in her pack. “Do you want me to help you carry those? It seems like you’ve got a lot of work to take home…”

“Sure. If you want. Could you find your way home again?”

“Oh, it’s no problem! I only live a block away from the old Bone-Eater’s well. Once I find that I’ll be able to find my apartment building.” She picked up the remaining two books and walked out after Kagome.

After they had been walking a few minutes, Misty asked, “What do you do around here for fun? It’s been so long since I’ve been here that I’ve forgotten what people do.” Kagome shrugged, unsure how to answer. “If you don’t mind me asking, why do you have so much work?” Kagome, seeing no way out finally said, “I’m not around here much. I’m usually in the hospital. There are lots of things that happen to me.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. If you fall ill or whatever again, I’ll be sure to come visit you.” Kagome nodded. Kagome, you’re a lousy liar, Misty thought.

They reached Kagome’s house and she introduced Misty to her mom, grandpa, and little brother Souta. To Kagome’s relief, Inuyasha wasn’t there. “This is so cool that you live at the Bone Eater’s Well! We live almost right next to each other!” Misty smiled. “You seem to have missed a lot of work. Mind if I help with some of it? I know how to do a lot of it because of my studies in Egypt.”

“I would be grateful if you would. It’s going to take me forever to get it all done at this rate.” Please don’t let Inuyasha show up. That’s the last thing I need.
Kagome & Misty worked hours on end and got all the assignments done by 8. (A/N: Japanese schools go half a day, but 6 days a week.) Kagome was relieved that all the work was done and was hoping that she’d be able to get some future assignments and get them done. It was less for her to worry about when Inuyasha dragged her back to the past again.

Misty was just getting ready to leave when there was a shout from the back. “Kagome!”

“Oh, is that your Dad, Kagome?”

“No. It’s one of my mom’s friends. Maybe you should go out the front door.”

“OK, I’ll see ya later.”

“Bye.”

Kagome, you couldn’t lie if your life depended on it. Misty thought. She hurried home and finished unpacking the few things she needed to get unpacked. Then she went to bed, as she knew the weekend was going to be very interesting.

#Meanwhile, at the well…#

“Inuyasha! What have I told you?! I just had to rush one of my friends out!

“Are you ashamed of me then?”

“No! I just didn’t want her to freak out!”

“Feh. So am I some kind of monster?!”

“No! She’s the new girl and I have no idea how she would react! And the people of my time don’t exactly have dog-ears! Why do you think I make you wear that hat all the time?!”

“Feh! What do I care what people think? And next time you put that damned hat on me I’ll shred it to tiny bits!”

“SHUT UP! Or I’ll say the ‘s’ word!”

“Feh, what do I care… SHIT!” Inuyasha slammed to the ground as Kagome yelled “SIT!”

“Oi, bitch! What was that for?!”

“Because I felt like it!”

“When are you going to come back? Or do I have to drag you again?” Inuyasha’s sudden quietness caught her off guard. “I… in a week, I suppose.” He gave a small, curt nod to her answer. All the anger had vanished and neither one knew what to say. Kagome climbed into her bed and faced the wall. Inuyasha still standing behind her. “What will you do if she comes over tomorrow? Will you hide me then?” Kagome shrugged. “I don’t know Inuyasha. I really don’t.” He sighed and climbed out the window to sleep in the tree.

The next day, Misty came over to hang out with Kagome, maybe help her with a few things. She also had the ‘pleasure’ of meeting Inuyasha.

“Hi Kagome. Oh, is this your mom’s friend?”

“Mom’s friend?! What exactly did you tell this girl, Kagome?” Kagome was silent, not knowing what to say. And Inuyasha wasn’t in the best of moods, as he’d been forced to wear the hat. She was worried that Misty distrusted her now. Kagome’s thoughts were interrupted with Misty’s reply.

“Oh, who are you then?”

“My name’s Inuyasha. I’m a friend of Kagome’s…” He paused when there was a brief flicker of light from underneath her shirt. “What the hell was that?”

“Oh, it… it was nothing.” Misty said. It seems she has secrets as well, Kagome thought.

Kagome looked up to see Inuyasha giving Misty a skeptical glare, and she was giving a glare right back to him. A sudden wind sprang up and blew the hat of Inuyasha’s head. Misty’s eyes briefly flicked up to his ears and returned to glare right into his eyes. Inuyasha seemed to visibly give a shudder, but both glares broke when Kagome spoke.

“So Misty, what did you come over today for?” Misty began acting as though nothing had occurred between her and Inuyasha. “I came over to hang out, and see if you needed help with anything else.”

“I was planning on… well, just hanging out here for a bit. Maybe do some house work.”

“Oh. Do you want me to help you with the house work”

“Uh… if you want to.”

“OK. Mind if I wash the windows? Or don’t they need it?”

“Yeah, sure. Go ahead.” Kagome got the glass cleaner and a rag out and handed them to Misty. She was then off cleaning windows. Kagome was about to start sweeping when Inuyasha pulled her aside.

“I don’t trust her Kagome. Something seems… funny about her.”

“Why not? She seems nice, and she’s a hard worker. And she’s helped my catch up on my classwork and nobody really seems to like her. The boys just ask her out because of her looks, but she refuses them. So why don’t you like her?”

“The flicker from beneath her shirt… it wasn’t the first time I had seen it… and the glare… only a werewolf I knew could ever give such a glare.”

“Are you saying that she’s a werewolf?” Kagome asked, with a little anger creeping into her voice. Inuyasha ignored it and continued.

“No, but she could possibly be a descendant.”

“So? Nothing appears evil about her…”

“Naraku doesn’t seem evil at first glance either, does he?”

“No… but I don’t think Misty would hurt either one of us. She seems so innocent.”

“Believe what you want to… but if she turns on you, on us, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Unknown to Inuyasha and Kagome, Misty was washing an upstairs window and heard every word of their conversation. They think I’m a full-blooded werewolf? I can’t believe that they would think that just because Richel…. Her thoughts were interrupted by a voice:: I know Inuyasha, Misty. He thinks I am dead. I had Shadi, the keeper of the Sennen items send word to them. In their time, I died only 3 years ago. I had Shadi send proof of my death as well. So won’t it be a surprise to Inuyasha when he finds me in the Sennen Scales?:: Richel gave a small, amused laugh. Misty sighed. : Richel, you worry me, really you do. And what will Kagome do when she finds out? She’ll freak out…: Richel shook her head. :: She’s with a hanyou. She’s probably seen more than this. :: Misty nodded. They continued to work as though nothing happened. And life went on as normal for a few days, until Kagome wasn’t there.

Misty decided to stop by Kagome’s house and see ‘which hospital’ she was in. When she reached Kagome’s house, she spoke with her grandfather.

“We prefer not to tell what hospital Kagome’s in. We don’t want people she doesn’t like coming in.”

“O. I understand. Do you mind if I take a look at the well? I’m very interested in it…”

“Sure. Go right on ahead. As long as you like.”

“Thank you, sir!” Misty said, and added a slight bow at the end. She entered the shrine, and knelt at the edge of the well. I wonder if there are any bones still down there? She jumped into the well, expecting to land only about three, four feet down, but she kept on falling. Why am I not hitting the bottom? I saw the faint outline of it when I jumped in…. She landed moments later, and hit her head on the ground. Everything went black.

Some time later, she awoke to sunset light drifting into the well. She groaned and sat up. “Well, I better get out of here and get home before my parents start to worry." ::: Yes, you better. ::: Riana said. Misty nodded in acknowledgment of her other darker half. She began to climb out of the well, only to find the shrine and buildings gone, the air fresher, and fields, a forest, and a trail nearby.

:: Ah, I know this place. If I’m not mistaken, Inuyasha’s village is just on the other side of the forest.:: Misty’s calm state was shattered by this.

: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What do you mean?! Am I in some alternate dimension? Or did I go back in time?!:

:: Well, I do believe we went back in time, courtesy of the Scales, no doubt. :: She answered.

Misty, with help from Richel, made it to the village before nightfall. When reaching the village, Richel asked Misty to let her be in her body. (A/N: It is Misty’s body, but Richel or Riana’s mind and spirit can take over it, giving her body some otherwise different looks. In short, ‘take over’ her body.)

Misty allowed Richel to take over and her hair got light silver streaks and her eyes became an amber-gold color, not unlike Inuyasha’s. She walked toward a hut in the center of the village and rapped loudly on the door. An elder woman opened the door and gave a gasp of surprise. “Richel! Aren’t you…? How? Why… are you dressed in clothes from the future?”

“I am here because I fell through it in Kagome’s time. I assume it was by the power of the Sennen Scales that I am here. I am trapped in this mortal girl’s body. Shadi, the guardian of the Sennen items came and collected the Scales from me upon my death so as they could go to a new bearer. Hence, they went to Misty Neshea. The girl whose body I now share, along with a former queen of Egypt.” Kadae stood there, once in her age, unable to find something to say. Suddenly, a question came to mind.

“How do you know Kagome?”

“She’s my aibou’s new friend. She’s here isn’t she?”

“In this time yes. But she’s off looking for a Shikon shard.”

“I suspected that. I heard of it’s shattering.”

“Do you wish to wait for them here?”

“No. I shall be on my way. As I recall, Kouga’s cave isn’t far from here. I should like to pay him a visit before I see Inuyasha.”

“Go, then. But your aibou wishes to stay here?”

“Yes, but I believe she fears Kagome will hate her. I think it best she meets Kouga first anyway. I’ll be back soon. In a day or two, maybe.”

“Farewell, then. Kagome will never hate Misty. After all, she did keep the fact she could go back & forth in time, did she not?”

“I suppose she did. Farewell.” Richel began to walk away, into the fading light. The full moon was beginning to cast light upon the earth, giving her hair an even more silvery tint. Misty was worried about all this, and beginning to get a little scared. : Where are we going?: she asked fearfully. ::Worry, not little one. We’re just going to see Kouga. He should be glad to see me after he thought I was dead. He and I never really got along though. O well. Maybe he’s changed his mind by now. ::

Misty was silent the rest of the way there. She was unsure about this Kouga. Who was he? Why did he and Richel dislike each other? She kept those thoughts from Richel, not quite sure she wanted to know. Riana wasn’t very comforting at the moment either. She did what she always did; sleep in her soul room. Misty gave an inward sigh, and curled into a ball on the floor of her soul room. She was over come with fear about this. Why had the Scales brought her back in time? Was there some purpose she was supposed to fulfill? It was all so confusing…::We’re here.:: Richel said, interrupting her thoughts.

Richel stood there a moment before yelling into the cave she stood before. “Kouga! Come out and greet me; if you have the courage!” Misty lifted her head a bit, wondering when he would emerge from the cave. Suddenly, there was a voice from behind ‘them.’

“Richel.” The voice was cold, rimmed with iron. “What are you doing here?” Richel smirked and turned to look at him. A raven-haired boy with light blue eyes gave her a piercing glare. She, still smirking, gave him an equal glare. “Why, I came to see you,” she said.

Kouga raised his fist. “The quarrel we had last time you were here shall be finished now. I will not wait any longer. Especially since I don’t have to hunt you down.” He let the blow fly, but Richel blocked. “Haven’t you heard I’m dead?” She threw a responding punch. “Then why are you here before me?” He slammed her against the rock and prepared to hit her again, but she cowered against the rock. Kouga laughed. “Hmph. You pretend to be so strong, yet you’re just Richel the weak.” He taunted.

“I… I’m not Richel.” Misty managed to stammer out. She cowered against the rock, afraid that he would think it trickery. And he did, but he was at first caught off guard by the soft voice. Misty opened her eyes and looked at him. He was standing there, poised to hit her, with a mixed look of surprise and skepticism on his face. He studied her a moment before speaking.

“What trickery is this? Do you take me for a fool? Yes, I see you have made the silver go from your hair and the amber color of your eyes is replaced with the green color of a forest. But I know it is you Richel.”

Misty, now angered that he mistook her for her more ruthless yami, gave him a harsh glare. “Alright. If you don’t believe my words, what can I do to prove to you that I’m not Richel? I heard her tell you that she died. And every word of it is true. After all, why else would I be in a school uniform like Kagome’s?” Oh, please to the Gods above, let him know who Kagome is!

After a moment, Kouga’s hand went to his side. “She’s a spirit within the old Scales she used to wear, isn’t she?” Misty nodded. “Just like the Queen that used to take over her at times.” He continued. Again, she nodded. “And the Queen still resides within them as well. I suppose my soul will be locked within them when I pass on as well.” He looked up at her. She was so innocent, so pure… so beautiful. She may even be willing to accept me as a mate! Unlike Kagome who has eyes only for that filth of a hanyou.

Misty was no longer cowering against the rock, but was standing upright. She was nearly as tall as he was! But he noticed one thing. She was looking at the nearly full moon, with a faraway, dreaded kind of look. He no longer thought she was Richel. He needed no more assurances of that. It was clear that she was her own person, but the dreaded look was familiar to him. Richel used to get that look when the moon was nearly full. Then she would disappear for a day or so when the moon got full. Against her will he had followed her and found out that….

“So, Kouga, I’m curious. Why do, did, you and Richel fight?”

“We’ve always quarrel over what was better. Wolf demon or werewolf.”

“Oh. What started it all? She never told me… I’m just curious about it all.” Misty blushed.

“I’m not going to tell you that. Richel can tell you on her own time. I have some questions for you though. Why are you dressed like Kagome? And how did you travel through time without the power of the Shikon?”

“I suppose the Scales brought me through time. Most of their powers are unknown to me. I just recently moved to the same town that Kagome lives in. We both go to the same school, so we have the same uniform. You like Kagome, don’t you?”

Kouga nodded. “Yes. I would have her as my mate, but she chooses that stupid, incompetent, baka hanyou.”

“Inuyasha?” Again, Kouga nodded. Misty yawned. She was growing rather tired. Kouga seemed very nice, so what was the reason for the quarrel between them?

“Would you like to stay here for the night? It’s too late, and dangerous, for you to travel back to the village tonight. Even Richel wouldn’t travel at night sometimes.”

Misty blushed, knowing it was true. But she was still wary. Kouga was still a stranger to her and she didn’t know what to expect of him. Richel did, but she offered no comfort. She, now also, was sleeping in her soul room. Riana was beginning to stir, and immediately drew knowledge of the situation from Misty’s mind. ::: I’ll keep watch, little one. Do not fear to stay. I know him as well as Richel, and later I will explain to you the cause of their quarrel. ::: came Riana’s reassuring, gentle voice. Misty sighed in resignation.

“Yes, I suppose I will stay, even though it may be against the will of my dear other half.” Kouga nodded to her. “Come in then. I share my home with you willingly.” She smiled at him, finding nothing but fondness for him. He was so sweet and kind, so far as she knew anyway, so why did Richel detest him so much?

He built a small fire, despite the warm night. He cooked a little meat for her, and the smell of it was overwhelming to her. And it suddenly occurred to her that she hadn’t eaten since this morning. She welcomed the small meal and thanked him graciously. As soon as she finished, she sighed and began playing with her hair. It was a habit she had gotten into who knows when. But she had unknowingly showed Kouga her ears. And in the silence came the sudden question, “What kind of demon are you?”

Misty looked up quickly. “What?”

“Your ears are pointed. One would assume you are a demon, or werewolf for that matter.”

Misty laughed. She didn’t fear to tell him her heritage, after all, he was a wolf demon himself. “I’m not really a demon. It’s in my blood, yes, but not full demon. I’m half human, and the others are vampire, werewolf, wolf demon, and elf.”

“Ah, so you’re wolf demon as I am.”

“Yes, I suppose you could say that.”

“I find it interesting that you have so many different bloods. Which of your parents were graced with being a part wolf demon?”

“I don’t know. I never had the courage to ask them. And they never spoke to me about my heritage. I found that out on my own. All they ever told me was to keep my ears covered; for fear that I would be shunned and feared as a monster. I think on it now and it seems as though neither of them were anything but human. I find it odd. In all honesty, I read on all sorts of what in my time is called ‘mythical creatures.’ And found out all the traits I possessed. And so that is how I discovered what I was.”

“Very interesting.” Kouga said. “But you need not have any fear at showing your ears here.” Or any other part of your body, he thought mischievously. “I know. The people in this time are used to such things, but the people of my time are not. But in all honesty, how many people in either of the times can say they possess five bloods?”

“Not many. Not even I have that privilege.” He replied. At this point, Misty yawned and realized how tired she was, but even though Riana had agreed to ‘stand guard’ she chose to stay awake as long as possible. Kouga got up and brought her a few spare furs. “Here, if you’re tired, you may sleep on this.”

“Thank you. The conversation is most interesting though….” A sudden howl from the door stopped her from speaking further. “Ah, my pack has returned.” They came in the cave and stopped, wary of the visitor, but Kouga reassured them. A cooling wind sprang up and blew into the cave. Misty sniffed the air. “A storm is coming.” Just then, lightning lit up the sky and rain began to fall. The pack slept what few hours of the night was left. Misty and Kouga talked a bit before she fell asleep.

Kouga got up and closed the door to the cave, then came over and laid one of the lighter furs over her. A lock of her hair had fallen over her face. She looks so sweet and beautiful, he thought. Impulsively, and he knew not what it was that drove him to do so, laid down beside her. He draped his arm over her, unsure for once in his life about something.

Misty stirred in her sleep, unknowingly moving closer to him. He smiled and drifted off to sleep.

Misty awoke when the first rays of dawn were shining into the cracks in the wooden door of the cave. She stirred, suddenly aware that someone had an arm around her. She moved carefully around to see who it was. She let a gasp as she discovered it was Kouga. She struggled not to scream, but instead yelled in her mind. : RIANA!! I thought you told me you were going to protect me while I slept?!: Riana laughed softly. ::: I did. He posed no threat to you. He only sought to keep you warm or other. I know not what was in his mind. If he had threatened you in any way while you slept, he would be lying dead on the floor and the pack would have fled in terror.::: Misty gave a sigh of relief. Then Kouga stirred in his sleep, smiling, he pulled at her shirt. This was too much for Misty on top of all else that had happened. She screamed at the top of her lungs, and it echoed around the cave, causing the pack to howl at the sudden, high-pitched noise, and Kouga himself gave a yell of surprise.

Meanwhile, several miles away, Inuyasha, Kagome, and the rest of their group were heading back to the village. Inuyasha and Shippou perked their ears and the others raised their heads. A scream and the howling of wolves and a sudden surprised yell still echoed in their ears. “That sounded like Misty screaming,” Kagome said in a worried whisper. “But it’s impossible.”

“And theirs no mistake that it was Kouga’s pack howling,” Inuyasha growled.

“I wonder if the girl that screamed is beautiful? In any case, we must go help her,” Miroku said. He started of in the direction the scream had come from. Kagome and Sango looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Inuyasha was following Miroku, looking forward to fighting with him in order to gain the shards from him. Kagome and Sango followed, and Shippou made himself content riding on Kagome’s shoulder.

Well, there ya go. Chappie 1. A bit of a cliffie too. If you have any questions, lemme know, but a lot will be explained in later chappies. Hope you enjoyed it! luv dc
