SERVER MOVE!!!

Post by blackrose »

I'm waiting to hear back from tech support about what to change my name server information to in order to move traffic from this server to the new server.

Everything is over at the new server just the way it is here, or how everything was as of like 11a this morning. I am going to have to, at some point before changing the name server information with my registrar, lock down the forums here so that we don't lose any posts - or lose as few posts as possible, anyway.

It takes approximately 3 hours to backup the database, ftp it to the new server, and then restore the db, so downtime will be approximately 3-5 hours when that happens. I will let you know ASAP when to expect it. It will probably be either tonight 4/11 or tomorrow night 4/12. Hopefully.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Rose

The best laid plans....

Back in like October, our webhost provider was running a special: Get more space, and more bandwidth, pay less money.

This made sense.

Of course, it's taken me a bajillion years to get around to moving the stuff over, and all this time I've been paying for 2 accounts. Wee.

Well, so, I had FINALLY gotten everything moved. All I needed to know was how to update the name server information with the registrar in order to get the domain to point to the new ip address. Because it's...just take my word on it. It's something the webhost has to do. Also, because the price is so good, the luxuries aren't. So, I have to work a little harder to set some things up. I asked, on Sunday, about 2 things - how to get the domain pointers updated, and how do I need to make sure and set up one little thing in my configuration efforts.

It's now Tuesday at 11p. More than 48 hours after I opened my support ticket. I am none too happy of a camper. Not only that, the access time on the new server is S-L-O-W. Every time I've tried to access the forum, the response time has been wretched.

So, tonight, I had had enough. I went and found a dedicated server package that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It costs about $10 more per month over the original package price (not the new, better, cheaper price I never managed to get because I've been paying for 2 hosting packages. GRRRRR!), and I've ordered one. It takes them 3-5 days to set up, but once it's done, we should be cooking with gas.

So, that pushes the server move back, I guess. Geh. But we'll see. I placed the order tonight. They should start processing it tomorrow. I'm hoping it will take less time than they safely "estimate". But OMG. THE SPACE! THE BANDWIDTH! Oh, I'm excited. Weeeeeeeeee!

And you should be too. A dedicated server. HUZZAH!!!
