Since the last chapter was so short, here's the next one...
"Please, Kaede-baa-chan. Do you have any idea where he might be?" Kagome begged. Kaede sighed heavily.
"No, child. I do not know where Inuyasha would go if he was upset. He usually comes back here to sulk when you leave. What happened?"
"I-I…" Kagome sniffed. "I called him…I was really mean to him, Kaede-baa-chan!" she blurted. "I didn't mean it, but he ran before I could stop him."
Kaede didn't say anything. "Perhaps you should ask the others. They may know." she said softly. Kagome nodded and stood. Just as she got to the door, Kaede called out.
"Kagome!"
"Yes, Kaede-baa-chan?"
The old miko looked very serious. "Tread carefully. Inuyasha's feelings may be deeply wounded."
The tears welled as she nodded again. "Hai."
Sango, Shippou, and Miroku were all out gathering herbs for Kaede. A storm was coming, and the resulting ache in Kaede's body had forced her to ask for their help. Kagome had joined in until the late afternoon, then she had straightened and announced she needed to go home. Inuyasha had immediately started to argue with her and had followed Kagome to the well, bickering all the way. Now, she hurried up in time to see Miroku slip a hand in a place it wasn't supposed to be.
"Ahh!! Pervert!"
Crack!!
Shippou rolled his eyes. "Miroku, getting yourself knocked out is not the smartest way to escape working."
The monk shrugged, scooting away from Sango's angry glare. He frowned suddenly.
"Kagome-sama?"
Sango turned. "Did you forget something, Kagome-chan?"
"Did Inuyasha actually win for once?" Miroku muttered. The sentence was designed to bring laughs. Instead, a tear fell down Kagome's cheek. Immediately, the three surrounded her.
"Kagome!" Shippou cried. He jumped into her lap as the other two forced her to sit down on the grass. "What happened? Did Inuyasha hurt you?" He clenched his tiny fists. "I'll beat him up!"
She shook her head. "No, Shippou-chan…he didn't hurt me."
"Kagome-chan, what happened?" Sango asked, taking a hand in hers. "Please, tell us."
"Inuyasha and I fought." she answered. Miroku glanced at Sango, who shrugged. Nothing new there.
"All right…you and Inuyasha fought." Miroku repeated. "Then what?"
"I-he called me weak, and I…I…"
"Insulted him back?" Sango finished. She nodded miserably.
"Why are you crying?" Shippou asked, confused. "You stood up to him! That's a good thing!"
Sango picked up the little kitsune before Miroku could hit him. "Shippou, why don't you go tell Kaede that the herbs will be a little late?"
He frowned. "I want to hear what happened…" Shippou cringed at the glare Miroku gave him. "But I'll go tell her. Bye!"
After he was gone, Miroku turned back to Kagome. "You didn't just insult him, did you, Kagome-sama?"
She shook her head.
"What did you say?" Sango asked.
"I said…that…that he was weak too, because he depended on me to find the shards." Kagome couldn't look at her friends, and therefore missed the troubled look they shared.
"Well…I can see where that would lead." Miroku said in a calm voice. Kagome looked up then.
"I didn't mean it!" she cried. "I was mad, and I picked the subject I thought would hurt him most. I don't think he's weak!"
"We know." Sango said soothingly. She hugged Kagome gently. "It's just…Inuyasha's been even more mean tempered since you left the last time. We don't know why, but we think something happened while you were gone. That's probably why he just blew this fight out of proportion."
Kagome nodded. "He usually does." Then she looked down. "Still…I was wondering if-"
"There's a hot spring just outside the edge of town." Miroku interrupted. "Very secluded, and hard to reach. We go there to talk, every once in a while."
Sango raised an eyebrow. "That's where the two of you disappear when Kagome-chan leaves?"
There was a slight shrug. "You wouldn't take it well if he complained about how heartless and selfish Kagome was being in front of you." When Kagome winced and Sango raised her boomerang, Miroku backpedaled. "I mean…"
Kagome stood. "So he's there?" she asked quietly. Miroku nodded. "Thank you, Miroku- sama."
She hurried off. Miroku sighed deeply.
"Whether or not she meant it, her words would have wounded Inuyasha. I hope he can forgive her."
Sango sighed as well, and then turned back to her work. "I hope they can talk this out without fighting…Houshi-sama!!"
Crack!!!

Do it by the book, but be the author.
