Argument 2/5

Post by Ryn »

Gomen! I'm sorry it took me so long to update. Typical end-of-semester type crap... Anyway, I'll try and get the chapters up sooner. This one's short, and mostly flashback, which is italicized. Without further ado, chapter two...

Inuyasha ran through the woods, not paying any attention to where he was going. He just ran, trying to get away from the hurtful words.
"You depend on me! If I'm weak, what does that make you?!"
She had no idea…none, of what she had said.
Inuyasha stopped suddenly as a spring appeared in front of him. For a second, the hanyou teetered on the edge of the water, then he caught his balance and sat down next to the spring. It was a hot spring, so the air around was heavy and warm. He stared into the water at his reflection. It stared back, looking very unhappy.
"Kagome…" he whispered. "Why?"

*************
"Fine, go!" Inuyasha yelled at Kagome's retreating back from his prone position on the ground. Instead of cowering at his tone and returning in submission as he unrealistically hoped, she waved cheerfully and disappeared into the well.
Grumbling, he stood. Like usually, he stalked into the woods. He needed to sulk alone for a little bit before returning to the village. It reinforced his tough guy image. The hanyou walked for a while, his nose smelling the sweetness of the air, and his thoughts on Kagome.
He didn't see the wind blade until it almost took his head off.
"Gak!"
Kagura laughed. "What's wrong, Inuyasha? You seem a little preoccupied. Did that girl abandon you again?"
Inuyasha's eyes narrowed as he drew Tetsusaiga. "Don't talk about her like that." Growling, he attacked.
He missed by a mile, and Kagura laughed louder. "If she had been here, you would scented me from half a mile away. You just don't perform as well when she's gone." She flipped her fan casually, and Inuyasha jumped as the blades came shooting his direction.
"Shut up!"
"How pathetic, being chained like that to a little human girl." As Inuyasha's face twisted with rage, she snapped her fan shut, leaned forward, and said the final thing to drive him over the edge.
"It's so weak, depending on one girl's presence to help you function normally. You don't even deserve to be called a hanyou."
All Inuyasha could see was a red haze, almost as if he had turned full demon. He swung in fury, and by sheer luck, he came close enough that Kagura had to dodge. She shrugged, and pulled a feather out of her hair before he could swing again.
"As much as I would love to finish this, I came for the girl. Oh well. I'll be back." The wind user soared into the air.
"Come back here!" Inuyasha bellowed.
"Why don't you practice while I'm gone, Inuyasha?" Kagura called back. "You really need to learn how to depend on yourself. Otherwise, when Naraku kills the girl, you're just going to fall apart."
As Inuyasha clenched his fists so tightly he drew blood, she waved mockingly and disappeared. The hanyou stood seething for a moment, and then he moved off. It was time to head back to the village. He only hoped the group wouldn't start anything.

*************

Inuyasha scowled harder. He had just been calming down from those stupid comments too. But no, Kagome had to pick the one sore spot…
He was not weak! And the only control she had over him was in the form of a purple rosary. He didn't depend on her.
Much...
Do it by the book, but be the author.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the weaponry to make the difference...
