Big O - Big Confusion

Post by ice princess »

Okay, so I think I've seen the majority of the Big O series in succession about 14 times, and I still can't figure out for the life of me what the freakin' thing is trying to say. Obviously it's something profound, and normally I enjoy the profound "What is reality", "What makes us humans important or human or whatnot" type of stuff, but this anime has me stumped. It's probably so simple, but I feel that is jumps around so much I can't follow what the hell point the series is trying to make. Could someone, anyone, enlighten me on this?

Big O ....
....is weird. I've seen both seasons all the way through, at least twice, and I'm not certain that I get what it's saying either. Mostly that life as we think it is really doesn't exist, and that it's all a big play or game someone is playing and we're the unwitting players. And something about tomatos.

I think.

Well for more detailed explainations come over to http://www.paradigm-city.com and check out our forums. We have discussed the purpose of Big O and many other topice at great and possibly excessive lengths.
The thing about teh tomatos I can tell you about here though. It is simply a metaphor (i think that's the term for it) for artifacilly cultivated humans. In short test tube babies with certain memories implanted into their brains, hence the repeated barcode imagery.

I figured tomatoes was a metaphor, but it just seemed the entire series was a bushel of convoluted metaphors. Not that I dislike this, mind you, I really like Big O even though I can't wrap my brain around it. I'll definitely have to check out that forum. Maybe it will ease my Big O of a headache. thanks!

Don't bet on it. Everyone, includeing myself under the same screen name as here, is a little warped over there.

But warped is a good thing!
I've been to the Paradigm City forums before, and they are a very good place to discuss Big O. There's also a lot of nice fanart and fanfiction there.
