Heero Yuy is?Adrian Monk
Prologue
MBF

She walked into the room for the fourth time that night, ready to talk him into waking up. She knew he could hear. His beating heart rang throughout her mind, and, likewise, her uncanny ability to read his thoughts. He was listening. Though in a coma, he could hear her, and for this, she was content.

?Here. I brought this for Andrew?s birthday,? she set a small cupcake on his bedside table, and placed a candle in it.

?Can you believe he?s three?? she looked at her husband and smiled. ?I wonder what he?d say if he saw you lazing about in bed, Heero,? she adjusted the hospital sheets and fluffed his pillow. ?He?d probably be embarrassed to admit that his father just laid about all day and all night, waiting for his family to come see him.?

The heart monitor spoke when she silenced. Unnerved, she kept talking.

?I brought your favorite picture of him, Heero. The one where you?re looking at him, and he?s looking at you?do you remember? Then he poured his grape juice all over your shirt,? she smiled. Heero made no movement.

?Wake up, Heero.?

The monitor blinked at its normal tempo.

She narrowed her eyes towards his defiance. ?Heero, wake up.?

Beep.

Beep.

She bit her lip trying to keep the tears at bay. She dug her nails into her skin and sang a song in her head to force the dam to hold just once more. She wouldn?t cry. She forced that habit away when she knew that she had to be strong for the ones she loved. And getting angry was more fun, anyway.

?Heero. You lethargic son of a b--?

His finger moved.

She smiled. ?That?s right. I am mad. Please be so kind, Heero, as to wake up so I can curse at you more,? she smiled.

His eyelids fluttered.

?Heero Yuy! Open your eyes this MINUTE.?

He opened them with force and she smiled.

?That wasn?t so hard, then, was it?? she smiled. For once, she didn?t stop the tears that leaked from her sapphire eyes. She wrapped her arms around him and held on to his thin body for dear life. He moaned.

Letting go, she wiped her tears and smiled. His eyes softened as he watched her.

?How are you?? he questioned, his voice hoarse from not talking for so long.

She laughed. ?I?m fine, Yuy. How are you? Can I get you anything? Water? Painkillers? A couple of strippers??

?I wouldn?t mind any of those,? he smiled.

?I?ll get the medicine and water,? she snorted. ?Wait until we get home for the last.? She bent over and kissed him. ?I love you, Heero. Welcome back?? she said as she walked out of the room to get his water and medicine.

An odd feeling swept inside him when she kissed him. It haunted his soul and burned in his heart, and suddenly?he felt insanely dirty. He wiped his mouth on a nearby napkin and tried to sit up.

Curious.

He still felt insanely filthy. It ate away at him, making him panic. His heart raced as his mind wandered through the bacteria that ate away at his lips. His eye formed a twitch and his neck jerked towards his shoulder.

Until he saw a picture leaning more left than right.

And suddenly, his lips meant nothing.

The picture was crooked.

It mocked him.

It called him.

It wanted to be straightened.

A nagging little feeling wrapped around his stomach at the thought of a crooked painting. It grew until it was the size of a bull, and suddenly, he was out of bed.

He placed newspapers on the ground and laid a trail of them to the painting.

SUCCESS!!!

With the aid of a tissue, the painting was straightened, and he could walk back to his bed.

Filled with?

Dear sweet mother of Mary.

The sheets weren?t white.

His eye found that semi-familiar twitch when Relena walked in.

?Heero! What are you doing out of bed?? she noticed the stepping-stone trail of newspapers and raised an eyebrow. Dr. Poe was immediately behind her.

?So he is awake!!!? she laughed. ?Welcome to the land of the conscious, Heero!?

He twitched.

Relena tilted her head and squinted.

?After five months of being in a coma, I?d need a little exercise, too. Let?s just run some tests and see how you?re doing.?

?Heero, what are you doing??

?The picture,? he said.

?What picture??

?It was crooked.?

Relena glanced over at Sally, who shrugged.

?What are the papers on the floor for, Heero??

?I?m not walking on this floor.?

?????

?I?m sure our floors aren?t the cleanest, Mr. Yuy, but they most certainly won?t make you sick,? Sally said.

?Heero, get back in bed. I think you need more rest,? Relena said, walking over to him.

?I can?t get in bed.?

She stopped and stared at him. ?Why??

?The sheets. They aren?t white. They?re?more like an off-white?mother of pearl?kind of color.?

?And?? Relena asked, placing her hands on her hips.

?I?d really just?like to go home,? Relena didn?t recognize his tone of voice?almost?a whine?

Relena?s jaw dropped. ?Sally? Can I talk to you for a moment??

?It?s been a week,? Relena sighed.

?Aren?t you glad to have him home?? asked Hilde on the phone.

?Of course?but??

?But what, Relena??

?The house is spotless.?

?You?ve been CLEANING? I thought for sure after five months of a sexless life, you two?d be shaggin? like bunnies!?

?I thought so, too. And it wasn?t me who cleaned.?

?What??

?It was Heero.?

?The place couldn?t possibly be spotless.?

?I could eat off the trashcan, Hilde. I?m telling you. He?s alphabetized where food goes. He?s placed things in the fridge according to sizes of the TUPPERWARE he?s put them in, and what color and variety the contents are.?

??Damn.?

?He won?t touch Andrew?s room, though.?

?Well?what?s wrong with him??

Relena sighed. ?He?s got a chemical imbalance from the gunshot. Sally said something about the length of time he was in a coma, and the amount of medicine they gave him, along with Heero?s uncanny immune system?I don?t know what it all means.?

?Well, when does it wear off??

?Apparently it doesn?t unless he gets over it himself.?

?ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

?I need SEX, DAMMIT!? Relena screamed in frustration. Hilde laughed.

?He won?t touch you??

?He uses a different toothbrush everyday. He keeps his clothes in plastic bags. He won?t touch me.?

?Jeez. I?m sorry??

?I?m sure it won?t last long, though. I mean?how long COULD it take for him to come to reason??

?I dunno?Oh! Crap. I gotta? go. Duo?s home with?Well?I better not rub it in??

?Thank you, Hilde.?

?Bye!?

?Meh.?

?Relena?? Heero walked into the room.

?Hm?? She said from her spot on the couch.

?Move your feet.?

She lifted her feet from the floor so Heero could vacuum.

?Heero?? she asked after he was finished, ?Do you think you?re acting this way because Andrew died??

He shook his head.

?That was a long time ago. I don?t think it would settle three years after he was born.?

She shook her head. ?I didn?t think so. I mean, he came out of ME?still?and I?m not acting insane. But I guess I would understand that reasoning better than this,? she flopped on the couch and snuggled the pillow she was on. ?And I think I would have more reason to go crazy. I was the reason he died.?

Heero lifted the pillow she was on and vacuumed it. ?It wasn?t your fault. He was going to die when he was born. Nothing could have changed that.?

?What makes you say that, Heero??

He shrugged. ?Things are the way they are.?

She narrowed her eyes and grabbed the pillow. ?Well, you are NOT psycho. Please put the vacuum down.?

He kept it on, though he?d dropped the stick to his side, and looked at her. The worry in his eyes caused her to glare more; it wasn?t worry for her or himself?it was worry for the pillow. She watched as the corner of his eye started to shake.

Sighing, she handed it to him and sat cross-legged on the couch.

?We?re getting you a shrink.?

?Heero, why don?t you start by telling me how you?re feeling??

Heero sat on the couch. ?This is a very nice couch.?

?I just had it polished and cleaned.?

?Nice leather.?

Quatre smiled. ?So, Heero, I hear you like to fix things that aren?t?perfect??

Heero nodded. ?They bug me.?

?They are frustrating,? Quatre commented. ?What does Relena think about all this??

?She likes a clean house,? Heero said, looking at the wall.

?But what does she FEEL??

?She thinks I?m crazy.?

?You?re not crazy, Heero. You just have a few problems that I can hopefully help you with.?

?You?re the third.?

?The third what, Heero?? Quatre asked.

?Doctor. The first one, Dr. Chang, yelled at me a lot and called me weak?then went into retirement.?

Quatre tried not to smile.

?The second one, Dr. J, decided after a session that he?d rather be a golfer.?

?I see.?

Heero filled his lungs with air and breathed out deeply.

?Well, Heero, I?What are you doing??

?There?s something in my shoe.?

?Ok. Well?I?Think? You?re wife told me you two had a still-born child??

Heero pounded at his shoe. ?His name was Andrew Christian Yuy,? he beat on the heal of the shoe.

Quatre crossed his legs. ?How did you feel after tha?Is that a pebble??

?Finally,? Heero held up a rock the size of a few pieces of sand and placed it in a tray on the table beside him. ?It?s been bothering me all day.?

Quatre looked at Heero and smiled. ?I have some medicine I?d like you to take??

Relena looked at Heero who was sleeping in a separate bed across the room.

How long could it be? I?m sure this will wear off in a few more days, and we?ll be back to sex, sex, and more sex.

Hopefully.

She fell asleep.
