[Relena is waiting for Heero at The Park, where she anxiously awaits a confrontation with him]
Relena was nervous. Extremely nervous. She was trying to look at everyone?s faces, but at the same time not letting her eyes rest on any one person?she didn?t want to be recognized, which was also why she had on those hideous aviator sunglasses. Her twitchy eyes settled upon her watch?it was 2:05. She had told Heero to be there at 2:00. The ever-punctual warrior was late. Her eyes began to mist, but then she saw a shock of dark hair and deep blue eyes emerge from the crowd. Her heart fluttered and her eyes cleared. However, the expression on his face kept her from smiling too wide. He came up close and whispered, ?Let?s find someplace a little less public to talk.? Relena nodded her consent and let him lead the way.
After about five minutes, they came upon an empty schoolyard playground. The knot in her stomach pulled a little tighter. She decided to break the thin ice that she was tiptoeing upon.
?Heero, I swear to God that I don?t know who that man was?he broke in! ?
Heero sighed and Relena knew that those were not the right words to open with.
?Why should I believe you?! You betrayed me in the worst way possible!?
Relena couldn?t believe what she was hearing. ?Why SHOULDN?T he believe me?!? she thought.
?Why would I ever lie to you? I love you?what possible reason would I have for being with another man??
?Well Relena, I don?t know why?but you?re a politician! Politicians lie to get what they want.?
Heero had crossed the line and he knew it, but he wanted to see what Relena would do.
Relena, meanwhile, was completely and utterly pissed off. However, she wanted to save this relationship, and at the moment she had one and only shot at it. She decided not to sweat the small stuff.
?Well, Heero, some, even most politicians lie to further their careers. But I don?t! I feel that if the public cannot accept you for who you are, then you should not be responsible for their welfare.?
Heero was impressed with her answer. He knew that she was not happy with him, but like the true diplomat that she was, she had given him an answer that she truly believed with all her heart. In an instant, he realized that all of this distress had come out of jealousy. He wanted to marry Relena even IF she?d had an affair, although now he was convinced that there never had been one. He grinned slightly.
?Relena, what would you say if I told you that I still want to marry you??
Relena beamed and threw her arms around Heero?s neck. A single salty teardrop fell on his shirt. Then she whispered in his ear, ?I would say that I still want to marry you, too.? Then she leaned back and kissed him.
