Murder by Moonlight - Chapter 2, part 1-3

Chapter 2</center>
Part 1
At this point in my story, reason and logic seemed to go out the window. I really shouldn't be held accountable for anything after this. But back to the Sanq and lady destiny.
She was wrapped in silver from head to toe. Silver sequins by the thousands glittered underneath the stage lights. Silver gloves hugged her arms up passed her elbows and silver dust made her shine.
Light blue eyes met my gaze and a smile curved those glossy, red lips. At least, I thought she was looking at me. A quick glance to my left showed me everything I didn't want to see: Zechs, virtually entranced, stared up at the woman on stage. And I loathed him even more.
His girl. She had to be. In a place like this, with her being--
But she couldn't be Nines's granddaughter. I knew Nines. He was a large man with brown hair so dark it looked almost black, caramel-colored skin, and deep set hazel eyes that were so cold he couldn't possibly have fathered anyone who knew what compassion was.
So Merquise was two-timing this girl. Both girls. Not uncommon, but for some reason, the thought made me sick. Though I knew better than to get involved.
Her song finished to a round of applause. She had a good voice - not as soft or as high as I would have thought, but sweet, smooth, and obviously well-trained. She was no Billie Holiday or Ella Fitgerald, but with her looks, she could easily make some money in this town.
She left the stage, and I turned back around to see my prime rib getting cold on the table. Zechs had already cut in to his, and I noted the new glass of club soda to the right of my plate.
I was a sucker, plain and simple, for that girl. I could only hope never to meet her, or I'd probably end up getting myself killed with that kind of lack of concentration. I grimaced, and hoped Zechs hadn't noticed.
"So, about that favor?"
"I want you to protect her," he said without looking up.

Hehe. ::a surprisingly evil chuckle::
Soon Heero, soon! You're already caught and now she just has to reel you in!
Fabulous rose, you just make me so ansty to have them meet (and for Heero to be, naturally, shockingly uncivil to her). Yes!

Part 2
"I want you to protect her," he said without looking up.
I blinked. "Who? What?" I sputtered, glad again, I didn't have food or drink in my mouth at the time. He wanted me to protect his girl. From whom?
"The girl. You know who."
No. Definitely not. "Protect her from who?"
"I don't know." He wouldn't meet my gaze, concentrating instead on cutting up his steak.
"The answer's no." I placed my napkin back on the table and started to get up.
"Wait."
I stopped. Why did I stop?
"Let me tell you the whole story. Then, you can tell me no. But at least hear me out and entertain my offer."
His expression seemed earnest. He was genuinely concerned for this girl. But she wasn't my problem, and I did not want to get involved.
I sat back down. "Fine."
He took another bite of his steak and washed it down with champagne. That had to be a tough life: steak and champagne every night. I scowled and pushed my plate away. I was no longer in any humor to eat.
"I thought you were going to--"
"Brother?" A soft voice spoke from my right. Merquise shot up from his seat to greet 'her'. He grasped her hand and planted a quick kiss on her cheek. She smiled and turned in my direction, where I know I was looking sourly at the two of them.
"Aren't you going to introduce us?"
"Relena, this is Heero Yuy. He's the private detective I was telling you about." Merquise gestured in my direction, then crammed his hands in his pockets.
I nodded at the introduction, but kept my focus on her reflection in my glass. She extended a gloved hand in my direction.
"My brother has told me a lot about you, detective."
Brother.
Brother.
I glanced up at the two of them standing side by side, and was overwhelmed by my stupidity and the striking resemblance. I told you reason and logic jumped out the window. Chased out by jealousy, no less. Some observant detective I was. I did observe that she was now wearing a long, black, sweater over the top half of her silver dress. But it did nothing to dampen her brilliance.

Lol! I can't believe Heero hadn't noticed she was Zech's sister!! Well, at least, he's admitted that he's a sucker for her, which is a good sign. Now, let's see what will happen next.
This is getting more and more exciting.

He-he-he!! He's so dense, it's cute! But annoying sometimes, nonetheless.
Can't wait to see the next part!
