Chapter 3 ? Bye-bye To Politics?
?
Mr. Leopold Donenfeld scanned through the documents inside his briefcase about the furtive organization they were discussing about a while ago and handed them to Prime Minister Bayers. ?As you can see, the said organization still hasn?t established an identity or a name of its own but its employees and workers are known as the ?Preventers?.?? After hearing the word ?Preventers?, Relena already knew that she was in trouble but still tried to hide the nervousness and apprehension she was feeling at the moment thru her solid fa?ade. ?How come they knew about it?? ?
The speaker then continued, ?According to the data, which we have gathered, this said amalgamation do not make use of mobile suits so as to maintain their secrecy. It is an obvious fact that these suits are too bulky and heavy to transport, which may lead them to the revelation of their hideaway and confidentiality. So, they instead make use of former soldiers and agents in the past wars to work for them. Although their general objective is still a question, we believe that their main goal is to put their leader in charge over the whole earth and the colonies? congregation.? Mr. Donenfeld concluded pompously while casting a sideway glance at the now perturbed Relena.?
?Do you know who the alleged leader of this organization is?? Mr. Bayers questioned the man as he crossed his arms in front of his chest, apparently not pleased with the newfound information.?
?Yes sir, we have already discovered the name and identity of the alleged leader.?? ?And what?s the name, Mr. Donenfeld?? Mrs. Richards again inquired.?
?The person might be the least expected but I swear by the law that what I?m about to reveal is nothing but the truth. Her name is? Ms. Relena Peacecraft, Vice-Foreign Minister of ESUN.? Mr. Donenfeld said without any trace of emotion crossing his smug face and looked accusingly at Relena.?
Everybody in the room held their breath and turned their heads towards her. Most members of the board couldn?t believe at what they have heard but as the documents of the said organization was being passed around for everyone to see, they could do nothing but to think, ?How could she do such thing??? Relena couldn?t breath. ?I can?t believe it. Mr. Donenfeld is trying to smear my credibility. Why is he doing this? What does he want?? ?She felt as if she were shrinking into a size of a mustard seed at that very instant, however, she doesn?t want to see the victory in the older man?s eyes if he saw her agitated, so she instead stood up from where she was seated and defended herself. ?Yes, I am the leader of the Preventers? Organization and I?m not ashamed of it.?? ?What?! This is ridiculous! Of all people, Miss Peacecraft, why you? Why you? I never expected you to? to be such a traitor.? Prime Minister Bayers fumed as he walked across the room from side to side looking at Relena disgustedly.?
?I think, you are mistaken Mr. Bayers because contrary to what Mr. Donenfeld stated, I have no intentions of either putting myself into your position or plotting another conflict.?? ?Is that so?? Mr. Cortamaga and Mr. Donenfeld asked in unison.??
?Then, why do you have to hide the truth from us? If both of us haven?t discovered this treacherous act, then the committee will not be able to know this scam.? Mr. Donenfeld added. ?Moreover, I can see no reason for you to conceal this if it were for a good purpose, isn?t it??? ?You have a point there, Mr. Donenfeld. Well, Miss Peacecraft, do you have anything to say opposing to what he had just alleged?? Mrs. Richards asked the princess in an interrogating tone of voice.?
?Yes Mrs. Richards. I just want to make some amendments as regards to his previous statement. What I did is not a treacherous act and it?s not a scam. Whether you believe it or not, it?s sole purpose is to protect the civilians from any kind of rebellion against the government. And to furthermore, the point of its secrecy is to maintain the hidden tactics and skills of the Preventer agents so that the supposed masterminds of any imminent wars and his followers would not be able to gain any knowledge about the Preventers? Organization so as for them not to plan a counter attack in the near future, if there would ever be.? Relena boldly stated trying to prove her point of view.?
?Okay, I understand your point for not telling the world about this organization but that doesn?t mean that you also have to hide it from us. Including us? Including this committee?? Mr. Bayers asked disappointedly bringing himself to his chair.?
?Especially this committee! Now, I want you to consider this, what if I told you about this and then some crazy rebellion group kidnapped you and tried to squeeze every bit of information out of you. What would you do? See, that?s totally impossible. I don?t want to have people?s lives at stake. I just can?t afford to see you all being abducted or much worse, dead at my expense.? Relena impatiently explained adding a tone higher on her normally calm voice.?
?But sir.? Mr. Donenfeld once again interjected. ?Anyone can say that they have good intentions but don?t you think that an eighteen-year-old girl handling such an enormous organization and responsibilities might be overwhelmed and hunger for more power??? ?Excuse me sir, but I think that you?re now crossing the borders. First of all, I?m not a little girl anymore and I do not hunger for more power. I am simply not that kind of person.? Relena said irritatingly but never showed on her outer frontage.?
Prime Minister Bayers cut off the impending argument with an ?ahem? and then slowly closed his attach? case. ?As of now, enough of this meeting. It?s already past twelve and I think everyone needs to rest. I?ll just organize another conference for tomorrow to finally settle this issue. Meeting adjourned.?? Everyone stood up from their seats and then exited the function room while chatting about the concern for the night.
?
Relena, still too distressed to move, remained seated while staring blankly at the documents scattered on the table. ?Just what had happened? What went wrong?? ?
?Mr. Leopold Donenfeld stealthily walked over to Relena and said something that made Relena shiver as his lips brushed her ear. ?You will soon be despised and be forgotten by the people you serve. Remember that. See you tomorrow.? He walked out of the room and left Relena alone in her thoughts.?

?
Relena arrived at the Peacecraft mansion at exactly two in the morning and headed towards her room. She tiredly carried her feet to walk up the stairs as she bumped into Pagan.
?
?Oh, Sorry Pagan. Anyway, why are you still awake?? Relena asked while rubbing her temples trying to ease her migraine.?
?I should be asking you the same question, Little Miss. Do you know what time it is?? Pagan said with his arms on his hips.?
?Umm? yeah, it?s already two.? Relena replied as she took a glance from her watch. ?Sorry Pagan, I didn?t expected that the meeting will stay up this late.?? ?I understand Miss Relena. Now, all you have to do is to rest and I?ll take care of your things in the car.?? ?Thank you.? With that, Relena entered her room and was now finally at ease as her back met the soft covers of her bed. She didn?t even mind taking off her clothes as she drifted off to sleep.?

?
The previously empty men?s locker room was now jam-packed as soccer players from the L1 Grizzlies team emerged from the hallway.?
?Congratulations Heero! That was a one of a kind knock-out competition.? Mark gave his teammate a congratulatory slap on the back as he walked into his locker.?
?Good game, buddy.? Another one also applauded.?
?Hey, Heero!? Duo called out from outside the room while waving his right hand to get his friend?s attention. ?Your fans are waiting for you outside and by the way, they?re mostly girls and? GAYS.? The braided pilot teasingly said while removing his top and walking in the shower.?
?Shut up, Maxwell.? Heero gave away his patented death glare at Duo and entered another shower as well.?
?Oh, yeah, sorry buddy. I forgot that the only girl you?re interested in is Relena.? Duo mischievously teased his quiet friend.?
???? ?So, does your silence means yes? I knew it! I knew it! You like her all along, didn?t you??? ?Omae wa korosou.? Heero said his last words in a peculiar calm voice while wrapping the towel around his waist.?
?Sorry, bud. You ain?t gonna kill me, are you?? Duo said trying hard to sound terrified and just shrugged at his own lame joke as he saw his friend walked away, not even minding what he said.?
After taking a quick shower in their school?s gym, Heero and Duo went directly to their black sports car and drove to their dormitory. Upon entering the room, Heero immediately hopped into the nearest cushion and turned on the television.?
?And for the latest news, the ESUN board of trustees had decided to arrange another conference for tomorrow night for what was left undone. The said meeting is about to tackle related issues regarding the newly proposed law by Mr. Donenfeld and Mr. Cortamaga. It was also said that Miss Peacecraft totally opposed to this and had tried to prove her point of view in the ESUN convention last Tuesday. In the meantime, another meeting was held a couple of hours ago in the conference room of Hilton Hotel and again dealt with the Neo-Mobile Suit Act. After the meeting was adjourned, Mr. Donenfeld welcomed us to take a nippy interview of what was discussed inside. Here is the exclusive footage.?? ?Sir, could you give us a synopsis of what was conferred inside?? The reporter inquired.?
?Sure.? Mr. Donenfeld smirked at the camera and then continued. ?The meeting went well, although, there were some problems between the committee and Miss Peacecraft that still needed to be talked about more further.?? ?Could you tell us what are these problems, Mr. Donenfeld??? ?I?m sorry but it?s not of my position to talk about this now. I imply that you just get a live telecast of tomorrow night?s meeting if you sought for more informations.?? ?Well, that?s the news for tonight. This is Michelle Valhalla reporting for the Late-Night News.? ?
Heero infuriatingly turned off the television and slouched further in the cushion chair while thinking of what might be the problem between the ESUN committee and Relena.
?
As if reading his mind, Duo commented, ?Whatever the problem is, I can feel that we?re not gonna like it.? ?

BEEP!!!!!! BEEP!!!!!!
?
The alarm clock displayed six o? clock in flashing red digits with that annoying beeping sound, waking all the sleep from the girl in bed. Morning came unusually fast for Relena. She only got four hours of sleep and now was the time to wake up and leave for work. The sleep-deprived princess stood up from her bed and prepared herself for the day?s activities.?
Relena arrived at her office in the ESUN Main building at seven thirty and was swarmed by reporters from different TV stations, trying to catch a scoop.
?
?Miss Peacecraft, was there any truth to what Mr. Donenfeld stated last night that you had a misconception among the ESUN delegates??? ?Yes, that?s true.? Relena admitted as she hurriedly walked out of the lobby and into the elevator.?
?Miss Peacecraft, could you tell us what ??? Before the correspondent could even finish her query, the elevator?s door already closed with a high-pitched buzz, informing the occupant that they?re now moving up to the next level. Relena sighed in contentment and stepped out the elevator after it had signaled her that they have now arrived at her destination. Her heels echoed throughout the empty corridor as she walked to her office and was astonished to be met by devious brown eyes.?
?Oh! What a surprise Mr. Donenfeld. Isn?t your office downstairs??? ?Yes, I just dropped by to check if you had already arrived. Well, since you?re here, I want to give you this letter. I found it at your office?s door this morning and I?m planning to give it to you personally. So, here it is.?? Relena took the manila colored envelope from Mr. Donenfeld?s creased hands and asked, ?What?s this??? ?Oh, sorry, that?s mine. I gave the wrong letter. Anyway, here?s the real one.? The old man reasoned and handed her a white colored envelope with an evil glint of triumph in his eyes.??
?Uh, okay. Thank you.? Relena said her words of gratitude for his thoughtfulness and smiled to herself as she looked at the retreating back of the much older man. ?He?s probably not that bad after all.?? Upon entering her office, Relena sat in her black leather executive?s chair and opened the envelope. She was bewildered when she found out that the paper inside was empty. Not even a mark of a pen or pencil could be seen.?
?Why would I receive an empty letter?? Relena whispered questioningly to the air.?
*****
?
Mr. Donenfeld?s ghostly laughter could be heard in his office as he looked maniacally at Mr. Cortamaga in the couch.?
?Would you believe me Howard if I say that we already have the princess by the neck?? Leopold asked in a drunk-like manner while still laughing his ass out.?
?It depends. C?mon stop acting insane, just tell me what had got damn happened?? Howard asked a little pissed off.?
After controlling his amusement, Leopold had finally managed to say, ?She took the letter without any doubt.?? ?What letter? Leopold, tell it to me straight to the point. I have still lots of work to do if you don?t mind.?? ?Okay, calm down. I?m just glad ?cause we already won.?? ?What do you mean?? Howard asked while raising an eyebrow at his friend.?
?See this manila colored envelope?? Howard nodded and signaled Leopold to continue. ?I took her fingerprints by letting her hold this envelope, which contains a faked strategic plans on how the Preventer?s Organization would start another war to take over. After that, I said I?m sorry for giving her the wrong letter and instead I gave her an empty letter placed in a white colored envelope. Got it??? ?Yeah, sort of.?? ?To cut a long story short, I framed her up. I framed up Miss Relena Peacecraft.? Leopold said triumphantly.?
?You mean, you let her hold the envelope with her fingerprints on it, so you could present it to the committee as an evidence against her. And with that, we will be able to prove that her intentions for the Preventers are self-beneficiary.?? ?You got that right, buddy.?? ?If that?s the case, then this calls for a celebration.? Howard Cortamaga said as he laughed a little to himself.?
Anonymous to both men, a tiny black gadget was unintentionally placed into the side part of the ceiling for security purposes. That device was the only witness to the truth.

Afternoon quickly came to past as the evening moon was set gloomily up at the dark gray sky. It was the moment Relena never wanted to come because in a few minutes, a live broadcast of the night?s meeting will occur.?
?God, help me to overcome this crucial part. May they be enlightened of what?s the truth and not be blinded by the lies.? Relena silently prayed and walked inside the function room. ?
Various media personnel such as cameramen and reporters were looming around every politician they could have a chance to interview with but Relena just walked past them and sat in her designated seat while recollecting her thoughts in place.
?
?Good evening ESUN delegates and media personnel as well, tonight we will be having a forum on the topic of Neo-Mobile Suit Act. Plus, we are also here to discuss the rumored predicament between the ESUN committee and Miss Relena Peacecraft.? Prime Minister Bayers started by giving a general idea of what was to be discussed. ?
After each side had given their own point of views about the proposition, Mr. Donenfeld once again opened the topic of Relena?s false treachery. ?I believe that now is the time for the whole earth and the colonies to be informed of what was really talked about in yesterday night?s meeting.? After getting everybody?s undivided attention to what he is about to say, Mr. Donenfeld again continued. ?To start with, Mr. Cortamaga and I have gained knowledge of a furtive organization just recently that goes by the name, ?Preventers?. Unknown to many, this mentioned amalgamation is headed by no other than Miss Relena Peacecraft. Although, the group?s general purpose is still indefinite, we believe that they only want to take over and rule the ESUN alliance as well as the earth and the colonies.? He smugly alleged and faced the media personnel who were trying to capture his face on screen for publicity purposes. ?
Relena then interjected and defended herself. ?I?m sorry Mr. Donenfeld but I guess you are gravely mistaken. Yes, I am the leader of the Preventer?s Organization but that doesn?t mean that I have a selfish purpose for being so. Actually, as to what I have said in the committee?s preceding meeting, the sole purpose of it is to protect the people against any uprising wars. And moreover, this organization has been kept a secret so as to preserve the concealed tactics and skills of our agents so that the suspected instigator of any imminent revolution against the government and his faction would not be able to access any information regarding the said organization so as for them not to plot a counter assault in the near future.? ?
Many people nodded and approved to Relena?s explanation of the quandary but still Mr. Donenfeld would not give up so he now readied himself to shoot his last bullet. ?Hn, let?s see if you can get past this. This will sure create a spectacular scene. Now say bye-bye to politics, Relena.?? ?Are you sure of what you?re saying, Miss Peacecraft?? He asked her rhetorically. ?Because I have here an evidence to prove that your so-called good organization is self-beneficiary.? ?
?And may I know what?s that evidence?? Relena asked in return. ?
?Oh, sure thing Miss. Remember this manila colored envelope, which I have found at your table yesterday?? ?
?Yes, I do remember the manila colored envelope you mistakenly gave me but I don?t know what you?re talking about when you said you found it in my table.? ?
?C?mon now, don?t be such a liar.? ?
?Don?t you know that I could charge you of libel for this, Mr. Donenfeld?? ?
?And don?t you know that I could charge you of treason for this scam?? Mr. Donenfeld answered her with another question as his dark fiery eyes bore holes into her body. ?Miss Peacecraft, I have here your fingerprints and it was compared to the fingerprints we found in this envelope. And the result says that both fingerprints only belongs to you.? He accusingly said and pointed a finger towards her direction. ?And one more thing, the information inside the envelope may shock many of you but it?s the truth. What?s inside is the strategic plan on how to start a revolution against the government so that you could take over by declaring martial law.? He paused and handed the papers to Prime Minister Bayers. ?Mr. Bayers, here?s the documents and see for yourself.? ?
Mr. Bayers? jaw almost dropped to the floor at what was written in the paper. His eyes couldn?t believe what he was reading at the moment. ?I demand an explanation about this, Miss Peacecraft. And I want it now.? His cheeks were now burning like hell as he roughly passed the documents for Relena to see. ?
?I swear I know none of this. How could that happen? This is impossible. Someone?s just trying to ruin my reputation.? ?
?Oops, don?t you ever allege me like that again Miss Peacecraft. I didn?t ruin you image, whether you believe it or not, you actually ruined it yourself.? Mr. Donenfeld said as a smirk formed in his lips. ?
Prime Minister Bayers threw in to stop the approaching fight between the two. ?Miss Peacecraft, I am sorry but this committee is not bias. So, be prepared because we will be charging treason against you for doing such an act.? Mr. Bayers finally finished off. ?
?But Mr. Bayers, let me explain, I?? ?
Relena was cut off when Mr. Bayers left his last words. ?You can explain in court.? ?
All the people inside the room were astonished, they couldn?t accept as true that their princess wanted to start another war but they couldn?t do anything but to just wait and see of what?s going to happen. ?
The politicians exited the room and prepared themselves for an ambush interview about the matter. And Relena was no exception to that, almost all the reporters wanted to interview her regarding her own opinion but as always, Relena just walked past them and headed for her limousine.
?
?No! This isn?t happening. This is only a bad dream, everything will be back to normal by morning? Relena thought before she collapsed at the backseat of her car. ?
*****
?
?WHAT?!? Duo exclaimed and almost jumped from his seat. He couldn?t believe what had happened. ?No, Relena wouldn?t do such thing.? ?
?Hn? Heero can only managed to say ?hn? after he saw the whole thing and again turned off the TV. ?How come they knew about the Preventers? What?s that Donenfeld trying to achieve after creating this mess? But one thing?s for sure; he?ll pay for what he did.?? ?

A/N: Okay, if you still can?t understand the story, then here?s the synopsis of this chapter. To start with, Mr. Donenfeld framed Relena up so that he could take over her position and be the next appointed Prime Minister in the upcoming election. Is it clear? I hope so but you could still email me on Issahyrp@yahoo.com for more inquiries.
