One Week Later
Heero Yuy, for the most part, thought he was able to accomplish anything that he set his mind to. His entire life had been a solitary struggle filled with relations that wanted nothing to do with him and poor luck, and although he had been side-tracked by poor choices for awhile, he felt that he had come out of everything all right. As of recent, he was able to pull strings (with help of course) and scrape up enough money to pay for rent, food, utilities, and a few luxuries that had once seemed impossible. Yet, looking at the schedule that lay ahead of him in a matter of a few short months, Heero began to doubt his ability to reach his ultimate goal, no matter how much he tried. Looking over the list as a whole, he once again went over what was soon to be his life.

(AN-*Many thanks to my best friend Chris for letting me use his own schedule as an example!)
The schedule was practically suicide, but starting that September, Heero would be following it to the tee, and it would continue that way for the next four years. One thing was for certain: he would live for the weekends, since that was the only time he would be able to get a decent amount of sleep. The other drawback from the schedule would be that he would hardly be around, which gave Duo free reign to do whatever he pleased, including going out late at night to those damn clubs. He could only hope that Duo would follow his rules despite him not being there, although that did not seem all that likely.
He left the college registration area with haste, having only an hour until he was expected to be at Jillian?s, and he had to grab a bite to eat and leave a note for Duo at home. Running short on time, he sped out of the parking lot toward the exit of the college campus. So intent on having to get home to eat before work, he didn?t even see the car that was dangerously close to his left rear door of his car. Suddenly, he was pushed into his steering wheel at impact and then pulled back into his seat by gravity.
"Son of a bitch!" he growled while rubbing his now bruised chest cavity. He threw the car in park, not caring that by doing so he was blocking a whole lane in the process. He pushed his door open and stepped out of the car in a fury, hissing in pain as the sudden movement jarred his injury. He immediately inspected the damage done to his rear door, and found that though only pushed in a fraction, the alignment had been messed up and there was no way of getting the damn thing open. He finally glanced over to the cause of the accident: a young woman estimated at his age, with flowing platinum hair and a slim figure, who was, by the sour look on her face, in as much of a rush as himself.
Heero watched expectedly while she pulled out a piece of paper from her petite purse and began to scribble down something furiously, mumbling obscenities the entire time. She then strode over to him purposely and handed him the piece of paper.
"Listen, I?m in a rush. Here?s my number and information; give me a call and we?ll discuss an amount for any damages."
"You?re in too much of a rush," Heero snarled, but swiped the paper from her grasp anyway. He was in a rush as well, and couldn?t waste anymore more time with her.
"Yeah, yeah, spare me the lecture. Just call, and we?ll make a deal."
Heero nodded in agreement, and then strode back to his car to see if there was any hope in him being on time.

Wufei carefully studied the small type of his name upon the white envelope, and then did the same with the sender?s address. He had been both anticipating and dreading that precise moment for months?no, years. The letter, that simple scrap of paper, would hold an impact so great on him, it would alter the course of his life. No matter what it said, it would change everything. He had planned to wait until his mother got home from her faculty meeting to open it, but he felt he wasn?t strong enough to hold out for an hour; he could feel the contents burning his hands already, and he had just found it moments before!
So, with fingers that were trembling ever so slightly and faltered a few times, he tore open the top of the envelope and pulled out the contents. He examined the single sheet of paper that remained folded, and thought of how insane it was that such flimsy piece of nothing would tell him which path he was to be taking in life. Taking a deep breath, he unfolded the letter ever so carefully, as though it were the most fragile piece of glass. His eyes fell upon the school?s insignia first, and he stared at it as though in complete disbelief. Finally, his eyes scanned down the correspondence and he studied the words that determined his destiny.

When Mrs. Chang stepped into her home, she found it shrouded in complete darkness, enhanced by the lack of lighting inside as well as the darkness that had fallen on the town. She would have been home much earlier had the faculty meeting not turned into a war zone midway through the conference. Emotions, as well as nerves, were running high with the both the upper-classmen dances and graduations only a month away and not enough money within the school system to pay for any of them. Debates were beginning on how they would get the money, or if they would need to cut the junior prom that year in order to pay for the senior events. It wasn?t looking good, but Mrs. Chang was ever confident that they would find a way that would enable all of the students to enjoy their expected ceremonies.
"Wufei?" She called out uneasily. They usually kept at least one light in the home, even when they weren?t there; but the front light of the house hadn?t even been kept on. She didn?t think Wufei had made any plans that night, it being a school night and all, but then why would all the lights be out?
"I?m over here, mom."
She let out a sigh of relief, and then reached for the main light switch to the living room area, where she had heard her son?s voice. Light flooded the room and revealed Wufei on the couch staring at something that lay beyond the walls of the room.
"What?s the matter?"
"I got accepted," he murmured, his tone flat and void of showing exactly what he was feeling at them moment. He offered no extra information for his mother, but she only knew of one thing it could be: the acceptance letter to Yan Shan University, one of the most elite colleges in China. Wufei had been working for years in order to be accepted there, and finally, all of his labors had paid off.
The tears began streaming down her face before she could stop them from forming, and leaving behind the dignity that their family had constantly practiced for years, and tackled her son in a huge hug of congratulations. For the time being, her pride in her son?s accomplishment outweighed the painful knowledge that came with his acceptance; he would be leaving for China in August, while she remained behind.
Wufei gave a half crooked smile in return, glad to have made his mother proud. But the question still lingered: would he actually be able to go through with it, and leave everything for a life of solitude? To leave his only anchor, his caretaker, his creator, to fend for herself?
He wasn?t sure he liked any of his options at that point.
*******************
Anger. Heat.
It throbbed, it was so intense. Duo felt as though he was going to burst at any given moment if he didn?t find a way to settle his adrenaline that very second. Even days after, what the stupid woman had done to him pumped the anger through his veins as though he was running a marathon; the insult still stung his pride like salt to a wound. For days he bad been much too quick-tempered to suit his character, to the point where a customer had almost had him terminated. He knew it was over-reaction, that it was going much too far, but something compelled him not to leave the incident behind him. So how could he move away from the insult? His mind recited the message to him repeatedly.
Revenge. That?s what he needed.
But how would he go about achieving it? He was in no way a violent person, and even if he had been, he would never lash out at a woman. What other means was there that would justify the humiliation his pride had been dealt?
A plan began to formulate then, very slowly. It would go against a lot of his own rules, and probably some of Heero?s, but it would be well worth the effort if he succeeded. He immediately tried recalling the address the girl now identified as Kimberly had given him, but is recollection went dim. He then called up Checker cab, but found that since Louis? shift, he was not able to get the address he needed.
He was frustrated that he would then have to wait until the man arrived at work; he was hoping to put his plan into action that day since he had off of work. However, that gave him more time to eliminate all of the glitches in the still newborn idea. Of course, the biggest glitch would have to be left to Fate; whether or not Hilde would hear him out or slam the door in his face. But if that went smoothly, then he didn?t see a chance at failure; he would gain his revenge by charming the young woman into falling for him, and when she least expected it; he would deal her the same rejection she had to him.
And with her heart shattered in a million pieces, his revenge would be complete.
