Lament
I mourn the years spent blind,
to dreams of such rare beauty.
I regret the visions of hope,
that my cynical sight will never behold.
And should I seek the life,
I believed was not meant for me?
It would not change the irrelevancy,
of all the dreams that graced my youth.
I fear it would be no simple matter,
now that my bitter lesson is learned.
There is little significance in unrealized truths.
The illusion of faith is an honest lie.
If I could I would weep,
for the loss of innocence that has closed my eyes.
It would please me to see the illusion once more.
I long for one final glimpse into the world,
as seen through the eyes of a child.
A.N.- This poem was inspired by a conversation I had with two of my younger cousins. Hearing them speak with such hope and conviction reminded me of when I was their age and the world was not such a harsh place. They say you grow wise with age but I feel you also grow tired. I guess I regret spending my childhood pretending that I was grown up because now that I'm an adult I wish I were still a kid...

Lament (poem)
Do not measure life by the number of breaths you take but rather by the moments that take your breath away.
Some things belong on paper, others in life. It's a blessed fool who can't tell the difference. - Madeleine "Quills"

Boy does that ring a bell. Sometimes I feel the same way....and I wish I was a little more innocent...but I'm not. It's as if I grew up too fast, too soon.
Great job, Lara!

It's like the story of my life. I'm growing up so fast I can't believe it
