What makes you write?

Got writer's block? Want to improve your prose? Grammar and spelling gotcha down? Then get out your sock puppets and chuck your sanity to the wind! (sanity is the number one block to writing)

What makes you write?

Post by Mellie »

Do you write because you have something to say? Do you write because it helps you express yourself? Do you just like it?

I think I like the expression part. It contains most of the darker aspects to my personality that I don't want to show my friends.

Why do I write? Hmm...well I guess I have to agree with the expression part. The freedom to do what you want with characters is often very empowering. ^^ Sometimes I do it because I have something to say and others because someone asked nicely for a story. Though I write mostly as an outlet -- letting out emotions like anger, love, angst. It's like a brief escape from the real world. And most days anymore, I can do with a little escape.... ^^

I was inspired. *pats muse* Right now, my muse is silent, but when my muse was in action, my fingers moved to do the biding. When I wrote songfics, the songs inspired me. Also, imagination counts. I daydream a lot, and 1xR and SM is featured a lot. Also IYxKag 2. I'm just too lazy to write it all down now. But I keep notes of the ideas that occurs now and then. Inspiration is the key here. Definitely.

I write because I enjoy it. What inspires me to write? Simple things: good music, maybe a quote-something I heard somewhere, a dream, humming to myself while I shower (okay, info overload there), umm, you never know!! Anything! A movie, or at random, an actual idea that sails across my mind from time to time.... A poem, a conversation...A good cup of mocha!! :D

I'm a combination. I write to express myself, because I like it, and hopefully because I think I have something to say. ^^

Everyone has something to say... always... The thing is to actually have the guts to post that something. *pokes Misao* Do you have something to say? Maybe a fic you'd like to post?

Okay, that was a hint, no so subtle, but a hint nonetheless, in case you didn't get me... :D .... MWahahahahahahaaaaa!!!

Like a lot of people here, I write for many reasons. I'm a daydreamer and a romantic at heart, and that's what fuels most of my writing. I also like writing because it tests my communication skills. Say I imagine something. If I can explain it to someone else and they understand it as well, then I know I've done a good job.

But when it comes down to it, why I write is because I love to and I want to reach other people with my work - touch them, per se. It's really gratifying to read people's comments about how your writing has made them rethink something or simply made them laugh out loud, smile, or cry.

* shrugs * That's the beauty of language. It gives you infinite possibilities.

I first started writing because of D1, so I gotta thank BI for starting my fanfic writing carreer. ^^ Why? The lure of doujinshi. ^____^ Didn't win any, but I got hooked and haven't stopped since.

I've been drawned into another anime recently (if you count the last 2 years as 'recent' *lol*) and the main reason I write is to foster the fandom for the specific pairing I like. Much like how the GW fandom was 6/7 years ago, the fandom for Prince of Tennis is 98% yaoi, and the main female chara is bashed and hated (much like how Relena was and to an extent, still is by yaoi fans).

It drives me freakin' NUTS! So I made it my mission to champion my fave pairing, and the best way to do that is to... you got it, to write. Well written works generate fans, and those fans may in turn write a fic of their own, and so on and so on. So writing for me is sorta selfish. I do it to spread the love, and ultimately, I'll be able to reap fics on my fave pairing. ^^

I also write because I enjoy pitting my fave charas in certain scenarios. It's like a brain teaser I force upon myself. Gets me through the tedium of work sometimes, heheh.

Another reason I write? I'm the only active writer for my fave pairing, so I feel all the hopes of the fans who love the same pairing on my shoulders. If I stop, who's gonna be the one to battle off the hordes of yaoi in Prince of Tennis, eh? =9
It took awhile, but when their number dwindled from 50 to 8, the other dwarves began to suspect Hungry.

I wrote to cope with an unhappy experience, later, I began to write because I enjoy creating stories...and also as a form of escape from the real world...and control...sometimes...

ahh...the yaoi fangirls and their works...believe it or not...I'm a yaoi fan, but I'm more for hetero...weird huh? I go for canon yaoi...but not for fan-based yaoi like 1x2. I can appreciate a good yaoi fic of 1x2...but I'm not a fan!!!

hahaha...my friends are anti-relena...I end up arguing with them most of the time...

anyway, I'm digressing. anyway, I also write because people like my works... :-P
