Yuki?

Just curious guys, but is there a reason no one really likes Yuki? And not just here but ff.net is hard up for Yuki/Tohru fics. I only ask because I just finished watching the series. (Anyone else left a little unsatisfied?) I know that the anime is just up to volume 8 of the manga and that the manga is still going so I kinda thought the whole "Who does Tohru pick?" thing was still up in the air. Am I wrong? Open ended animes confuse me! *cries* I need resolution!

Hehehe, and Rose! I just visited the avatar forum and was immediately blinded by all the vision's of Kyo's red hair from his zillion avatars! *huggles Rose* Your obsession is so cute!

Anyway, just wondered if maybe I had misinterpreted the ending of the anime or if I had totally missed something. Anyway, I shall let you all resume your Kyo-ness. ^_~

Now where is Wicked? I need another Yuki fan...

To be honest it's not that I don't like Yuki. I do like the character, but I think that he's far too incapable of emotion to be able to have a relationship on the level of most of the fics I've read. He's cold in his own way and very introverted. I can see him and Tohru loving one another distantly as friends, but never as lovers.

TECHNICALLY, it's up in the air, I suppose. But Yuki is... He's dependent. Yes, I know, it's because he was abused as a child by Akito, but it's Tohru that has to protect HIM. But Kyo, for being the outcast of the family, he protects HER. See what I'm getting at? Kyo's the cheerfully grumpy sort, but his feelings are genuine.

SPOILERS....

Later on in the manga, Kyo REALIZES he's in love with Tohru. (So does Momiji) Yuki's never REALIZED whether or not he's in love with her. It's entirely possible he's incapable of that sort of romantic attachment. But the fact is, there is a part of the manga where Kyo THINKS to himself (and cries because Akito is calling Tohru a monster for caring about Kyo) that he really loves her, then denies it to Akito to protect her. He then tells Kagura he can't love her, he's sorry (to which, Kagura replies that she "loved him" because she felt sorry for him. As bad as her life was, it was never as bad as being the cat. He told her that it didn't matter why she cared, only that she did, and thanked her).

Kyo's character changes, and develops - much more than Yuki's does. Yuki does things like become student class president because it's something he doesn't want to do, and he wants to change. But we can really SEE the changes in Kyo's personality. He starts off being so angry at everyone, then we see him try to control his temper so as not to say things he doesn't mean. And finally, the ending scene of the anime may not have been as big a thing in the manga, but how can you interpret that scene any other way? "You don't have to love everything." That implies she loves him, doesn't it?

The manga is dragging out, but until the last few Rin-centric chapters, the story had become really more Kyo-centric. He's doomed to be locked up for the rest of his life if he doesn't beat Yuki before they graduate high school. When Tohru found this out, she went to see Kazuma (his master) to find out how to break the curse.

I'm 90% sure we're going to see a Kyoru ending. Maybe I'll eat my words, it's happened before, but I'm betting on Kyoru.

Yuki...? I started out being pro-Yukiru when I first started watching the anime. By the end, I was a die-hard Kyoru fan. And now, I can't stand the selfish rat.

Should I go on about how Yuki could help Haru let go of his animosity towards the rat as being something in the "fable" but not between them (Yuki and Haru), but he can't do the same for Kyo? The only admirable thing he did in the anime was hold Kyo down in the last ep, and I really did admire that about him. Until I found out it didn't happen in the manga. Geh.

So, you guys can have Yuki. He's all yours.

I'm so for Kyoru. Period. I don't know...I love Yuki and his character is a sweetheart, but i think that's just it- he's too perfect in his amiability and too much like Tohru in the field of formality. Then he's so mean to Kyo...I'm always rooting for the underdog, er...cat...undercat.

Kyo on the other hand has so many problems to deal with- no popularity, orange hair that seems to bother people (though i find it sexy...~cough~), the cat demon problem...yet he always manages to think of Tohru first, and consider her. I just think that's so much better than Yuki, who has a fan club, is class president, adored by all in his family, is first of zodiac...blah blah blah...who doesn't seem to have to ever work for anything. Kyo is so determined and that is admirable.

I need to read the manga...i've only seen anime. i know, i'm bad, i'm looking!

I so love Kyoru. I like Yuki...but he's...well...not really someone Tohru should hook up to, in my opinion. I like Kyo because he really tries to comfort and care for Tohru...and very vocal about it. Tohru confides to Kyo, not to Yuki. Yuki's the one who needs comforting. He needs someone very strong-willed...like...KAGURA!!!
dang! My Kyoru obsession is showing...but I do appreciate Yuki. He's trying to change and I respect him for that.

I agree! Kyoru is so much preferrable to Yukiru. Yuki just seems so cold and distant. Although I would like to say that the manga encourages this, I think that we are going to get a *sob* open ending. I think Kyo is more desirable because he puts his feelings on the line for Tohru and also lets himself be open and caring around her. She has done wonders for his temper. I do like Yuki, though, but just as Tohru's friend. Yuki could have any girl, but the cat and the riceball are the outcasts that are meant for each other!

Where in the manga does Momiji say that he loves Tohru? I don't remember that. *would like to read it over*

Ugh! You people and your Yuki is so aloof or distant and cold. Who wouldn't want a man like that? Okay so he's still technically a kid but who's paying attention right?

From what I've seen, both Kyo and Yuki are dependent. Hell all the Sohma's are. I can't go on about the manga as I haven't read any of it. I see Kyo as using Tohru (not in the throw her away type) in getting in touch with himself. She seems to be able to help him understand his feelings, and I do believe that he is in love with her in the anime. Obviously it comes out in the manga.

Tohru also seems to be able to do that with Yuki. I think he does love her as well but it won't be anything he would actually act upon, for fear of losing that friendship between them.

It would seem, that all three of them are "using" each other to grow, understand themselves, and their friendship is just a springboard for what may come with other people in the future.

Seeing as Kyoru is such a popular pairing, I'm sure that's how the manga will end. I would prefer a Yukiru ending but I'm doubtful that would actually happen except in my mind. Although, my truly heretic self would really like to see AkitoxTohru.

Of course I have nothing to back my theories other than my own perceptions. *shrugs*

But a Yuki fan I am and I always will be.

P.S. Did you ever think that Yuki is in a way, albeit small way, like Heero? Cold and distant, yet we all support 1xR. Perhaps Tohru is Relena and Yuki is Heero. *shrugs* ^_^

With Fruits Basket I actually had no prefernce as to which. I liked both of them for different reasons. *shrugs* I think its the only show I've ever felt this way about. It's weird not to have an opinoin....hmm....

Thank you all for you enlightening opinions! I haven't read any of the manga so, Rose, your spoilers were very helpful! ^_^ It makes me really wish we could see the end so we wouldn't have to wonder anymore.

I DO have to say that I think Yuki DOES love Tohru but from what you guys have said I'm more inclined to think now that the ending will be Kyo and Tohru, only because even though Yuki does love her, I think by then he might be strong enough to let her go and just be happy for them.

And Kyo will be locked up if he doesn't beat Yuki? Wow! They didn't say that in the anime at all!

Hmmm, that kinda makes me sad considering the thing Yuki is best at is fighting. It's kinda like, extra character torture isn't it? Kyo gets the girl AND defeats Yuki, who in the end will get nothing? *cries* Oh how sad! Maybe Tohru can find a way around that whole thing. Let Yuki keep SOMETHING I say.

So anyway, thanks guy for clearing this up for me, though it seems I'm firmly back on the Yuki side! *huggles Wicked* And I think it's only because I like to root for the underdog. I know that Kyo is painted as the underdog in the series but EVERYONE wants him to win so I have to love Yuki for he's going to get shafted. Hahaha.

@Wicked: Heero is NOT Yuki. Not on his worst day. NEVER. Don't make me go into character analysis, I haven't had my coffee. *glares* And as much as I like Tohru, she is NOT Relena, either. But that was a good try...

Kyo is more Heero-like in my opinion.

@Berry: YUKI FIC? BAHHHHHH! You can post it here. But FYI, the reason there are more Kyoru fans here isn't because there are necessarily more in fandom, it's because I run the Kyoru list (with Mona), and people on the list often end up here. I've also written some Kyoru fics, and this website is on my FFN profile. THAT'S why the representation is what it is.

@Wicked - Yuki is more like Quatre. Ooh, or Trowa. Yeah, Trowa and Tohru's a nice Sylvia Noventa....
