Wonderful storyline, beautiful CG, interesting characters, great design, plenty of side-quests...Yes. You need to play it. My favorite RPG hands down. I couldn't even keep my self from tearing up at the end. If all of this previously stated does not sway you one thing will....
CHOCOBOS.
Worth every penny I paid. It even has sap/romance! It's really awesome. Oh, and the music! :bounce:

It's a good game. It's taken me over a year to play it, though. The story is actually shorter than a lot of games, but there's a lot of side quests and challenges and stocking up that you can do that can basically drag out forever. Plotwise, there's a villain, a love story and a good plot twist if that's what you're looking for. The characters are varied and unique and the voices are decent (some being better than others, of course). The graphics and colors are amazing. The summons aren't as cool visually as the ones in eight, but after your stock up, they kick serious butt as far as attack power is concerned. The best part of the game appeals to people who like to "max out" their characters. After the main part of the story, when there is nothing but sidequests to take care of, you can do a lot of tricks with levelling up to make invincible characters. More so then in all the previous games. i.e. 10,000 HP, 9999 MP, hit attacks of 100,000+ maxed out stats etc. It doesn't just happen by playing the game, but because the way the sphere grid is set up, you can bascially customize your own characters to be as powerful as you want and to obtain whatever skills you want them to. Obviously, if you're just interested in playing for the story, this won't interest you as much, but if you're into doing all you can with the game, it's really quite fun.

Some parts of the story drag a little bit and I have to say that those Chamber of the Fayth puzzles are freakin' ANNOYING even with the guidebook. You need the guidebook. It would be close to impossible to figure out some things without it. Blitzball in particular is really annoying. It's not explained very well and it's almost impossible to play it well when you're just starting out. You CAN recruit new players and max out your people though. The only reason to play it is to get Wakka's Ultimate Weapon. Ultimate Weapons are definitely worth getting (you get super sweet abilities) but you can customize your own if you don't want to play blitzball or race chocobos (took me quite some time to beat THAT challenge) or chase butterflies, etc. Another annoying part of the game is traveling. You don't get to fly around the world and walk across open territory like in the previous games. You still get an airship, but it operates more like a menu.

The game is fun, though. If you're a serious FF player, you should check it out. The story, characters and graphics are good enough to warrant playing it as a rpg just for fun. And if you like a fantasy games where you max out invincible characters then this is DEFINITELY the game for you.

At any rate, I reccommend it. That's my two bits.

I personally loved it. Zap up there hit a lot of points on the head, though I was able to finish it within a couple of weeks. I didn't have a guide book, I didn't max out my characters, I played through the storyline, did a couple of the side quests, through my controller at the TV at the Chamber of Faythe things... (hee hee), but I loved it. It has a very strong, linear storyline, the graphics are great, I loved the characters (Mmmm... Lulu and Auron.). Doing the side things (like, getting the ultimate weapons for each character) is likely worth it in the end, considering I spent 45 minutes on the second-to-last boss alone (My poor CTS. ;_;), but that was because I had piddley dinky weapons. >D But it can be done, it's just... time consuming (Whereas when I played FF8, I HAD to have my entire party at 100th level to beat the final boss. x.x).

I liked it, and highly recommend it. ^^

Yeah, I'm all about being bad-ass. The best part of FF8 was defeating Omega Weapon. Took me 30 tries and God only knows how many hours. The final boss was easy in comparison. I wasn't even bad-ass. My characters were between 50-80th levels. But I needed Squall's lionheart to work 2-3 times (nothing sweeter than watching squall take off 200,000 + hits in a single attack) and Eden 2-3 times (A hero drink or two was useful for that), Selphie's lovely Full-Cure and Quistis's Mighty Guard. Figuring out a strategy for killing Omega Weapon was really fun. I used the internet very little. Ended up being a thing where you have to keep everyone at 9999, on aura for limit breaks, and with Mighty Guard. Otherwise you're toast. REALLY fun. Challenging.

I'm still working on FFX. It's taken me so long b.c I don't have time to play it much. And there's a LOT more stocking up to do. Capturing 10 of every monster in every area and then levelling up in the Monster Arena. I want to be bad-ass enough to kill ALL the impossible monsters in the monster arena. And have characters with like 10,000 HP and 999 MP and crap like that. FFX is cool b.c if you're a dork like me and feel like wasting THAT much time to be that kick-ass you can do it. That was my point.

So yeah, it's all about defeating challenges for me. I'm still working on the lightning strikes, the second butterfly challege, and Blitzball, but.... I'll get there. I felt pretty cool defeating the Chocobo dodger race thing (time of 0:00 for Tidus's ultimate weapon) but GOD did that take a long time!

Okay, I've rambled on long enough.

*Is admittedly a geek*

*giggles at Zap*

Gah, you know, I did NOT do any of the monsters at all? See, my friend lent me his PS2 and his copy of FFX, and I had until he wanted it back to finish it. I had about 2 weeks. I played through it about as straight forward as you could get. The best part about that was when my friend Kuri was talking to me about it while I was trying to defeat the big boss of the game (OWWWW), she's all like "I only did *blah* with These people's Ultimate Weapons, and it only took me this long." I'm like... -.- "Auron has a sword with Zombie Strike on it.....". Also, no one strayed out of their own grid. Yuna knew no Black Magic, Lulu knew no White magic, etc. That was how little I had built up before I beat the game.

But yeah, it's great if you just want to sit around and play around. I want to go back and do the monster catching and all that. But mainly, I want the ultimate weapons. Squee! Though, maybe not Lulu's. That whole Lightning Dodging Thing is... My thumb hurts just thinking about it!!
