How I became Shinigami

[i]This was a story my friend wrote a few months before she died.

Today would have been her 21st birthday.[/i]

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

" I'll stop looking if you tell me."

" Alright Heero, I'll tell you how I became Shinigami." Duo said shifting into a more comfortable sitting position.

" I was born a long time ago, even before the After Colony era was established. In the middle age. I was born in a hut in the english countryside. Both of my parents were slaves of the king. They escaped hoping I would be born free but they were being watched. you didn't go anywhere in the kings service without being watched."

" They were followed?"

" Yes, they were forced to return to the castle. Of course I had to go with them. It took the moron king almost a year to figure out me mother wasn't going to do anything. She was trying to take care of me. So I was sold to a man named Garete Moriarte.

" Wait they sold you when you were a year old?"

" Yeah, I worked in the house until I was five and then I was sent outside where I made my first screw up. I challenged his authority. He beat the crap out of me. Even though this is a new body I still have the scars. I wasn't able to work for a week. But there was this old woman, she helped me through the pain. Because she as old Garete gave her a bed, And every time I was beaten I woke up in that bed. I never learned her name. I couldn't even speak so what was the use."

" You couldn't talk?"

"No, She knew what I wanted, it was like she read my mind. When I was ten I made the worst screw up. I tried to escape.. He beat me unconsious. I was like that for almost a month. when I was fifteen The old lady and me were sold to a German man who had Three sons and a daughter. He didn't beat me. The only time I got hurt was when Garete came over. I fell in love with his daughter, who when I got the assignment of Shinigami was Hilde. She started to teach me to write but it came on a day Garete was visiting. He beat me again."

" Wait, she was Hilde?"

"Yes, Hilde ran to protect me but he slammed her into the wall. I stumbled to her but she was dieing of her injuries. Garete started laughing and I ran to him and fought. I lost. I laid on the ground and let myself go. The old woman held my hand until my life ended. It was like watching it all. I wasn't in my body."

" So both you and Hilde died?"

" Yeah, The old woman died a year later. I saw her again when I got the job. They said because my life was a living hell I was the perfect candidate for the job. I fit all the requirements. And ever since I was reborn in A.C. 180 I was the taker of lives. And I still am. The 195 war was hell though I was busy all the time."

" I like your wings."

" So does this mean you'll stop staring at me."

" Yeah."

" Oh yeah one more thing. Your past life you were a man named Garete Moriarte, Relena was the old woman and Hilde was and still is my girlfriend. Oh and your son, he's going to die when he's born but, you know something. I'm gonna let him live. I don't like taking children before they get a chance. He'll live a long life."

" I was the bastard that killed you"

" Yeah and Treize was my dad. Now if you don't mind I have a date with Hilde."

As he walks out the door his wings close in.

" Why do I totally believe him." Heero said with a smile on his face.


As Duo passed Relena in the hall he just smiled. She was his guardian angel.

Yeah and her favorite character was Duo so she was perfectly happy writing this. She was buried with a Stuffed Duo doll I got in Tokyo.
