Chapter 4 ? Healing

A/N: Still don?t own. Please excuse my writting, today. I wanted to work on this before I lost interest ('cause I've already figured out what's going to happen) and so I thought writting something was better than nothing.

For those of you that are following Becoming - I'll try to get a new chapter out soon. It will explain more of why Heero kidnapped Relena...

__

The next morning?

?My journey will soon be over,? Relena thought with a sigh. It had been a great vacation for her. She had had almost two weeks to prepare for seeing him again, and fortunately for her, her humiliation was not as great as it had been then.

And then there was Hugh. He had been such a wonderful, understanding host. He was standing beside her now, in silence, his shoulder barely touching hers. They gazed on the shoreline that seemed to approach them.

Hugh placed his hand on Relena?s and looked deep into her blue eyes.

?Relena, this isn?t the best place to port. Would you like me to stay with you for a couple of days until someone comes to get you??

Relena smiled and him and placed one hand on his cheek, wiping off a stray drop of water.

?No,? a knowing smile said, ?If I know him, there already is someone waiting for me.?

Hugh looked at Relena with questions in his eyes, but Relena did not offer any more information.

?Very well. But at least let me accompany you to the nearest phone.?

Relena gave no response but a slow nod of her head as she turned her attention back to the beauty of the crashing waves and the shore.

Later?

The town where Hugh and Relena docked was buzzing with activity. Relena?s eyes grew bright with excitement as she looked at all of the people going about their daily routines. The city was beautiful. Old buildings seemed to cling to the shore and had extraordinary paintings on the sides of them. There were vendors on the street, selling their crafts to the people walking by. The streets were made of stone that had begun to crumble around the sides. Children laughed and played games outside.

As Hugh guided Relena through the streets, Relena heard a band playing. She grabbed Hugh?s hand and pulled him in the direction of the sound. They rounded a few corners to find a festival, of sorts, with the local townspeople engaging in a spirited dance. Relena watched in awe as she tried to pick up the steps. Hugh smiled at her and motioned to a phone. He said something but the band was so loud that she couldn?t hear him. Laughing, he leaned down, ?There is a phone. I?m going to go get us something to eat. I?ll just be right across the street. I?ll meet you back here in a minute.?

Relena nodded, smiled, and walked over to the phone, too interested in the culture to notice someone following her.

Relena picked up the phone and began dialing. Suddenly, her arm was grabbed and she was drug around a dark corner, out of sight of the festival. She was going to scream, but then she saw blue eyes and dark chocolate hair. She would have shouted his name in surprise and happiness, but then she remembered their last encounter.

Instead, a matter of fact, almost cold voice stated evenly, ?Heero.?

?Relena.? His voice matched her evenness, and although his eyes flickered over her body briefly, he never asked if she was okay.

?I?m fine,? she offered.

?I?m taking you to a safe place. Then, I?ll go take care of him.? Relena, at first was unsure of who Heero was referring to. Following her eyes out to the direction he was looking, she saw Hugh.

Her eyes bugged, ?No, you?ve got it all wrong.?

?Hnn??

?Hugh didn?t hurt me! He?s been helping me.?

An unconvinced Heero stated, ?You had a head injury and he didn?t dock.?

?He couldn?t!? Relena grabbed Heero?s arm trying to get him to look at her. He was too busy analyzing his opponent. She saw him tighten his hold on his gun, and wonder if he was considering his opportunity to shoot him now.

She couldn?t let him hurt Hugh. Hugh had been nothing short of wonderful to her. But he wouldn?t listen. He was too busy being her bodyguard to notice who really caused her the most pain. No assassin, politician, or soldier had hurt her as much as he had. But here he was again, protecting her from everyone else but himself. Of course, she reasoned, that probably wasn?t fair, considering that he had done little to encourage her affections.

Relena gave up on Heero for now, too concerned that Hugh might get hurt, and darted back out into the street and ran as fast as she could toward Hugh. Heero didn?t move, but his eyes narrowed in the dark alley as he watched Relena.

Relena caught up with a startled Hugh. He put his arm around her protectively and asked in her ear, ?Are you okay?? Hugh looked around, scanning the perimeter for anything threatening but found nothing. He saw Relena looking into the alleyway near where he had first seen her running toward him, but nothing was there.

?He?s gone? Relena thought as her heart beat wildly. Her head darting around the square, wondering where he could have disappeared to, but was unable to find him. She felt Hugh sigh, content that Relena was safe, and then place a small kiss on her forehead. He looked down to the bag of food he was carrying and looked back at her. They walked over to a nearby bench and sat to eat.

They ate in silence, as she too entranced by the music, dancing, and well, looking for Heero; and he too busy looking at her and then looking around making sure she was safe. He smiled as her eyes widened as a new dance started. She watched the dancer?s bright array of colors on their clothing flashed as they moved. It was a relatively easy dance, she thought, watching them and momentarily wishing that she too could do that.

Hugh stood and held his hand out to a surprised Relena. Her smile broke into a grin as she hopped out of her seat, eager to be part of this wonderful city and this spirited dance. Hugh escorted her out to the dance area and held her closely as they danced together. Although they never had danced before, their bodies acted like they had danced together their whole lives and many heads turned to this out of town couple. A small crowd formed around them, clapping their hands together as they watched them.

One dance turned into two. She laughed as Hugh made a slight change in the dance step and stunned her by dipping her. It was then she stopped looking for Heero. At the end of the fourth dance, Hugh bowed to her and took her arm. They walked back over to the bench where they had been eating.

Hugh laughed as Relena somewhat screamed in his ear over the crowd, ?Hugh, that was so much fun! Thank you!?

He met her glowing eyes and found himself drowning in them. He slowly bent down and kissed her. Her arms wrapped around his neck, holding him close to her. They sat together at the bench, his arm around her shoulders, her head cradled on his chest. As the activity began to wear down, Relena felt herself being watched. She looked around her, confused, figuring she?d find Heero, but instead she found it was Hugh that was starring at her.

?Relena,? he said softly, ?I don?t want you to go.?

Her heart skipped a beat, looking into his eyes. ?Then let me stay with you until you dock again.?

He gazed deeply into her eyes and leaned in to kiss her again.

Relena never noticed that Heero had been watching them from not too far away. His eyes narrowed slightly each time Hugh kissed her. When he read Hugh?s and Relena?s lips during the last exchange between the two of them, Heero walked out from his hiding spot and slung his jacket over his shoulder. He paused for a second as he saw them kiss, then turned down a dark alleyway and disappeared in the night.

A/N: Where is Heero going? Why is he giving up on returning Relena home?

Maybe, just maybe... Heero's got a plan up his sleeve. You just know he does. And you know he's jealous... Bwahaha! Let Heero suffer!! Hugh seems like a good person for Relena. I say Heero watch them hug and stuff in agony!! Yes!!!! Heero shall die from his own suffering... bwaahaha- ::cough:: A little crazy today, ne?? I love how the story is going. Its very cute, and Heero's being very mean! Relena better get revenge.
I like the position you put each of the characters. Its something hard for each of them, and confusing. Its going to be intresting how each of them works things out.
