Part II: Tales to be told
Allen?s dark eyes went wide with surprise. The carriage had passed through the massive gates of Fanelia, and was now coating slowly through the large, beautiful city. ?My, God! He?s rebuilt it all to be exactly like Fanelia had once been three years ago,? he murmured under his breath. ?Not only does it look better, but it?s??
?Look, Allen! It?s all the same! Every single detail is here, including the castle. It looks the same!?
Celena stared out the small rectangular window on her side of the carriage. She gasped, her eyes scanning everything quickly, trying to take in everything at once. However, it wasn?t new to her at all. She had been here. She knew all about it. And the incidents.
Allen glimpsed a look of his sister?s face from the corner of his eye. The memories of Dilandau Albatou, and all the horrible things he had done, began to drift back into his mind, haunting him. He grimaced lightly as he brought his eyes to the huge gray-bricked castle with blue shingles.
?Celena? You?ve never been here in your entire life.? He squinted his eyes, turning fully to stare at her with both his eyes. ?How could you know what it looked like before the Zaibach Army had destroyed almost everything of Fanelia??
Celena pushed his questions aside. They didn?t matter to her. Only one thing mattered to her at the moment. ?How old would he be now, Allen? My age, right?? Her eyes shifted from one young girl?s face to another?s as they passed a group of young teenage girls standing outside The Pub.
Allen blinked. She had ignored him! And his questions! He pressed his lips into a thin line of annoyance. ?Yes?but you didn?t answer my question, Celena!?
It was time to tell the truth. Celena turned, tearing her eyes away from the wonderful things she saw. Her eyes trained on the thin line of his lips. And furrowed her brows, frowning. ?I don?t know, Allen.? She shook her head; her eyes getting a far away look in them. ?I just suddenly?remembered being here. I can?t?describe this feeling that I have?at the moment.?
The Knight Caeli closed his eyes slowly and brought his fingers to his head. He began to massage his temples in a slow circular motion. ?I see.? His fingers continued to move, only quicker. He had to get rid of this blasted headache before he actually met up with Van. ?We?ll discuss this later, Celena?when we have the time.?
Celena nodded quickly without saying anything more. She went back to staring out the window; her excitement completely dispersed leaving her with a deep, hollow feeling of emptiness. Allen slowly opened his eyes and turned to look out his own window. He then spotted a young man, and a cat-girl who was bouncing around the male. He doesn?t look a thing like Folken, more like Goau, he thought, squinting. I wonder if he?s ever changed those clothes?
The carriage suddenly slowed to a halt as he was pulling himself away from the window. The small square door opened. Allen sighed quietly and stepped out into the sunlight that streamed down through the breaks in the branches above. He held his hand out and Celena grasped it gratefully.
Merle looked over at Allen, just as the young woman pulled her hand away from his, and smiled. ?Allen! Long time no see. How have you been?? She grinned now for some reason.
Allen looked her up and down, then chuckled loudly. ?Ah, good ol? Merle! You?re looking beautiful. How have you been doing since I last saw you?? He slanted his head, watching her, feeling the King?s eyes on his face.
The cat-girl walked right up to him. She gently clawed the front of his white, loose shirt, which was slightly open at the collarbone. It revealed the creamy-colored skin, and the lean neck. ?You?re such a playboy! Oh! I?m doing?okay.? Her words were slightly hesitant, almost as if she were suddenly afraid of something.
There was an awkward moment of silence. The young King absently kicked at a small pebble, his arms crossed behind his back, his head lowered. Celena suddenly stepped forward. And hugged the cat-girl hard. ?God, Merle! You?re all grown up now! I can?t believe it, you?re not the little kitten that I had remembered you to be.?
Van?s head shot up, and Allen?s head snapped in their direction, as soon as they heard the gasp of surprise from the cat-girl. The men watched the young woman. Allen narrowed his eyes slightly, tilting his head to the side in scrutiny. Van knitted his brows and looked over at Allen.
?What is she talking about?? he mouthed the words soundlessly. He remembered Celena, but he didn?t remember that she had met Merle. Or hadn?t she?
The Knight Caeli shrugged absently, his eyes drifting over to his sister?s back with suspicion. Merle cautiously hugged the girl back. She didn?t know her! She hadn?t met her! What was going on? She opened her mouth to say something back, but Allen threw her a rather nasty look over his sister?s shoulder.
?Ahh?Well, you?ve grown as well?Celena,? she replied uncertainly.
Allen let out a silent sigh, feeling a heavy weight leave his chest and shoulders. He tuned the women out and turned his attention mainly on the King. Stepping up to him, he held out a hand. Van stared at Allen hard in the eye. Then his lips broke out, grinning from ear to ear. He extended a hand, and gripped Allen?s hand firmly within his gloved one. ?How have you been, Allen??
His voice had changed, Allen thought idly. He shrugged. ?I?ve been better. How about you?? He squinted his eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun against the back of his head. ?You don?t look so well, Van.?
Someone snickered. It had been Merle. She was directly behind them now, a grin spreading her lips. ?See! What did I tell you, Lord Van?? She narrowed her eyes.
Van shook his head, shoving her words aside, and turned around. He began to head back into the castle when a hard hand grasped his elbow. He spun around, tearing his arm from the desperate grip. He found Allen?s shifting eyes on his face. ?Allen?? He noted how they appeared desperate?lost. ?What?s wrong? You look terrified.?
Allen swallowed nervously. Was the reason of him looking so terrible because of what had happened three years ago? Was he going through the same withdrawal as he? ?Van. Please. I need to talk to you. In private.? His voice trembled.
Van knitted his brows in concern. This was scaring him?the behavior. He had never seen his friend look this scared in his entire life. ?All right. Merle!? he called out to the cat-girl, looking over Allen?s shoulder. His eyes locked onto Allen?s face and he noted how a sheen coat of sweat decorated his face. ?Why don?t you and Celena go into the castle?? She gave him a puzzled look, and he shook his head as she began to protest, adding, ?Allen and I need to talk in private. Excuse us.?
She must?ve seen the look in his eyes?the look of concern, incomprehension, and understanding. She nodded and linked an arm with Celena?s.
?Come,? she murmured reassuringly, glancing at the girl. ?We?ll go check out the new rooms. It?s right beside mine.? She began to lead the young woman away from the cul-de-sac, and up the stairs into the castle doors. Her voice faded away, as they got farther and farther away.
The doors suddenly closed behind them, and Van turned to face Allen. ?Okay. What it is? And I?m not the only one who isn?t looking too well. Come.? He turned, beginning to leave.
?Van, wait.? Allen pursed his lips, and then began to nibble on his lower lip. ?Van, I?We need to talk in the courtyard. Or garden. Somewhere. Anywhere where it?s concealed from listening ears.?
?All right. We?ll go to the private gardens.? The King turned and began to head in that direction. All Allen did was nod, and followed closely.
* * *
?Hitomi! Yukari, over here!? The voice had been rich, loud as it rang over the noise of the bustling cafeteria.
The two women stopped suddenly and began to look around for the source of the yell. They knew whom the voice belonged to, but they couldn?t find him. Hitomi smiled softly and waved to Amano Sumono. She had spotted him making his way towards them. She pinched Yukari?s arm softly and indicated with a nod of the head that he was making his way to them already. Yukari had grinned and winked. As soon as he reached the both of them, he looked Hitomi up and down. And whistled loudly, howling like a wolf.
?Wow!? He shook his head, his eyes swimming in desire, his lips pulled back in a satisfied grin. ?I?d never thought there?d be a day where you?d come to school wearing just that.? He whistled again much to Hitomi?s annoyance.
Hitomi felt her cheeks go warm. Yukari elbowed the young man harshly in the ribs. ?Amano! Behave yourself.? She narrowed her brown eyes as he grinned down at her stupidly.
It must?ve been some sort of delayed reaction thing or something. Amano finally grunted, rubbing his throbbing ribs, and looked down at his girlfriend. ?Hello, beautiful! I?ve been looking all over for you.? He leaned down and smacked a noisy kiss upon her lips. ?How come you never come to school dressed like our Hitomi??
Yukari shook her head, muttering some incoherent words. She stood up on tiptoe and planted a light kiss to Amano?s lips. Hitomi then turned away and pretended to viciously attack an invisible stain on her black, skin-tight, mid-thigh skirt. She suddenly cursed out loud as she just then remembered something her mother had told her earlier this morning. Yukari, having heard the curse, looked over at her friend and giggled loudly for some apparent reason.
?Hitomi! It?s fine. There?s nothing there, and there?s no need to pull it up.? She lifted an eyebrow as Hitomi began to fix the length of the skirt, which was completely impossible. ?All, or most, of the guys would want you to pull it down! Down! The opposite of up, which is what you?re doing now. Do you believe all the stares you?re getting from em??
Hitomi looked down at her black, three-and-a-half-inch, lace up boots that went over her knees and partially up her thighs. ?I noticed. Believe me, did I ever noticed.? She grimaced. ?But I can?t help it! I didn?t feel like?wearing what they normally make us wear. It was?It just gave me a bad?memory. That?s all.? She shrugged, looking away.
Just at that moment, one of Amano?s ?groupies? walked up from behind him. He suddenly whistled, checking Hitomi out. ?Amano! Hey! Shame on you. You haven?t even bothered to introduce me, a single, lonely guy to this?friend of yours. Nice legs by the way.? He winked. Hitomi narrowed her eyes, feeling the blush stain her cheeks.
Amano threw his head back, laughing loudly. ?All right, all right. Hitomi Kanzaki meet Droma Tomoe. Droma Tomoe meet Hitomi Kanzaki. She?s my ex-girlfriend, but we?re still good friends.? He smiled at her. And it made her feel sick for some odd reason. She pressed a hand to her stomach, forcing out a smile.
Droma narrowed his eyes slightly and nodded. He suddenly reached out and brought one of Hitomi?s slender hands up to his lips. As his lips brushed across her knuckles, she shivered slightly, managing to smile shyly at the man. Allen used to do that, she thought carelessly. As he lifted his head from her hand, she then noticed his eyes and how one eye was silver, the other a deep gold.
?It?s a pleasure to meet you, Hitomi Kanzaki,? Droma murmured gently, bringing himself to his full height. Hitomi stared at him, her eyes wide. She could?ve sworn she heard Allen?s voice say, ?We all miss you, Hitomi.? She must have dreamt about it for a moment there or something. It was impossible to hear him, or the others for that matter?they were on a completely different planet.
Maybe?just maybe, they weren?t even real.
Maybe they were just some big dream.
Her dream.
Someone cleared their throat. And Hitomi nodded vaguely. She blinked. ?Yeah. Same here,? she murmured quietly. What had happened there?
Droma grinned at her and then turned to face Amano. ?We still up for that meeting later on? The one about the track team?? He glanced over at Hitomi, immediately bringing his attention back to Amano as the older man lightly punched him in the shoulder.
Amano narrowed his eyes as soon as Droma?s met his. The captain of the track team glared at the younger man in front of him. Droma began to chew on the inside of his cheek. Hitomi noticed how Droma visibly shrank under Amano?s glare. ?Sure! We?ll do it after school so we can sign-off the track. Just leave it all to me?or else. Someone else does it?it isn?t going to work out as well.?
Droma nodded slowly, turning to leave. When he was out of audible range, Hitomi shot Amano a glare that could melt the thickest icebergs. ?What the hell was that all about Amano?? She crossed her arms over her chest.
Amano?s deep brown eyes caught hers, held hers, and locked them together in a hard gaze. ?Well, Hitomi. If you come to school dressed like that??he gestured with his right hand to her skimpy outfit??in a black, very short, skin-tight skirt that doesn?t cover most of your ass, black, lace-up heels that go past your thighs, and show off your shapely legs, and an almost see-through shirt that can?t quite support your large breasts from causing the first three-to-five buttons to undo, then you?re going to get that kind of attention and treatment from the male population.?
He shook his head at her stunned expression. ?And he was just talking about a meeting that I planned for the track team. Nothing too big. And besides, that race up in Canada is really important to our school?we can?t afford to loose against those Canadians.?
Hitomi tried to blink away her surprise, but it didn?t seem to be working. His words had slightly shocked her, including when he had mentioned her breasts. She ran a hand through her hair, sighing heavily. Yukari frowned deeply and placed a comforting arm around her friend?s shoulders. ?What is it, Hitomi? Is there something you want to talk about?? She reached over and tucked a few long, loose stands of her friend?s hair behind her ear.
The young woman closed her eyes and said, ?I just miss him. That?s all. I wish I could go back. But?I?I can?t?.? She shook her head, the warm sting of tears hitting her eyes hard.
Yukari gave her shoulders a squeeze. ?It?ll be all right! Who?s the lucky one that you miss so much??
Hitomi shook her head again. She brought a hand up and began to play with the pendant around her neck. She could feel Amano?s eyes on her face, waiting for her response. It made her very uncomfortable. ?Just a friend. I met him a while back. And no, he doesn?t go to this school.?
Yukari grinned and then nodded. ?All right. I wasn?t even going to ask you that anyways.?
Hitomi shrugged, staring absently at the ground. ?You were thinking it,? she replied in a distant voice.
Amano?s eyes trailed up her body. Starting from her shapely legs, trailing up to her narrow waist, up to her large breasts. His hungry gaze stopped on her lightly glossed lush, full lips. He smirked as his ravenous eyes devoured every part of her body. He flicked his tongue over his dry lips, feeling his insides twist at the very thought of making her his, making her scream, making her moan, making her wither beneath him. His pants felt tight. And it was painful.
He looked at Yukari. ?Hey, Yukari? Don?t you have that choir practice thing today, at lunch?? He silently crossed his fingers.
Yukari lifted her head. She stared at him in confusion. ?What? Are you serious!? Her eyes went wide as she tried to remember what day it was.
Hitomi furrowed her brow. ?It?s Thursday. You have choir practice on the ?T? days.?
Amano nodded. ?Yeah! You didn?t hear the morning announcements??
?Of course I didn?t. I never listen to them!?
Hitomi laughed softly. And Amano joined her. Yukari looked over at her best friend. ?You?re going to come right, to watch??
Hitomi stopped laughing, nodded, and grinned. ?Of course I am! I have nothing else to do this lunch hour. So I?ll come and watch you sing your guts out. Until you explode, that is!? She laughed again.
?Yeah, tell me about it,? Yukari responded sarcastically. She rolled her eyes, grinning.
?But I have to go to washroom first. I knew where the choir room is, so I?ll join up with you in about five-to-ten minutes. I don?t want you to be late, so you?d better get moving!?
Yukari nodded, turned, and raced towards the other end of the large cafeteria. She then disappeared behind a pair of large blue doors. All time seemed to stop there. Hitomi continued to stare at the doors that now swung back and forth in slow motion. Something had happened. What was it? Could she pinpoint it clearly as she had been able to clearly read her friend?s mind? How had she been able to read Yukari?s mind anyways? Turning her head away from the direction of the doors, she looked around her, looked at the people that, instead of walking around slowly, raced around her. They left behind various colored streaks of air as they weaved around Amano and herself, as well as a high-pitched squealing that sounded like blood curdling screams. Amano. Amano? Hitomi? Someone was calling her. Who was it?
Hitomi ignored them. Ignored everyone as soon as she spotted the bright red sleeveless shirt, and the light brown khakis. Him! She knew him! Come back! No! Don?t go up those stairs! Fight. You?re going to get into a fight. No! Get up. Get up! Don?t use your sword! Don?t kill him! Let him alone?he doesn?t even know you. Come find me?I?m hurt. Don?t hurt him either! He didn?t mean any of it. Just leave. She blinked slowly, her eyes leaving the staircase that they had decided to stare at. And everyone was around her again, walking around at their normal pace. Everything had been restored to it?s normal pace and setting. What the hell had happened? She looked around, her eyes completely bypassing the man in front of her, the man who had been calling her name for a while now. Her eyes found the staircase again. And she blinked.
He stood there now with a serene look on his face. His black hair as shaggy as ever, the bangs nearly getting in his line of vision. His eyes were the light reddish-brown she had ever seen as they stared out at her from between the many students that walked between them. She blinked again. And his arm was lifted, a finger pointed straight at her. Blinking again, she lost all sense of hearing. She couldn?t hear anyone around her anymore. No more sound touched her ears or troubled her mind. Just what she longed for?silence. She blinked again. And this time a pendant hung from his finger. In the far back of her mind, she heard a constant dripping noise that was relentless.
Her eyes shifted to the golden-capped pendant. And she then saw, to her horror, the blood that dripped from the tip of it. Even the thin golden chains were oozing with blood.
Just then, as someone called out her name firmly, a mountain of thick blood that flew out from beneath him swallowed up the man.
He didn?t cry out for help.
He didn?t even tear his eyes from hers.
How could he?
He looked remorseful.
For what?
Was he apologizing to her?
It just wasn?t going to happen?.
It wasn?t going to come true!
?Hitomi? Hitomi! What?s the matter? Snap out of it!?
Hitomi blinked and it felt like she had been asleep for a thousand years. Her eyelids felt extremely heavy. She sighed lightly and brought her eyes to Amano?s pinched face. ?Oh, Amano?? She blinked, slightly confused. ?What are y?Never mind. I?m just tired.? She shook her head.
Amano watched her with dark eyes, his eyes leaving her face for a brief second to glance over at the staircase she had been staring at earlier. ?Would you like me to help you to the bathroom? You look like you?re about to faint or else fall asleep on your feet.?
?I?m not a little girl, Amano. I?ve grown up. Now, if you?ll excuse me, I?m going to go to bathroom now,? she replied in a cold and distant voice, turning to head for the stairs. As she began to climb them, she pushed aside the uneasy feelings and the uncomfortable presence that hovered around her.
Amano growled something under his breath and began to follow her silently. Well, let?s just see how much you?ve ?grown up?, Hitomi, he thought angrily.
* * *
Van turned. He crossed his arms over his broad chest and fixed Allen with a concerned look. ?All right, Allen. What had you looking so lost and frightened? What is wrong with you??
Allen sat down on a big, deformed rock. He didn?t trust his legs. He placed his head in his hands as he slouched over. ?Did you see anything peculiar last night? Aside from the stars, the Mystic Moon, or the Rybun??
?No. Why??
?Not even the same strange white light that returned Hitomi home?? He had jumped off the rock and was now staring Van dead in the eye. Van had to suppress a shiver.
The King narrowed his eyes slightly. ?What are you talking about, Allen? I?m not following you?.?
Allen sighed, running a hand over his face. He then tunneled his fingers through his hair, trying to dig his blunt nails into his scalp. ?The dream is the same, Van?for three fricking years. I, however, call it a nightmare. It?s been rather haunting me. I don?t seem to trust myself either nowadays. The dream is mainly about Hitomi??he held up a hand as he saw the look of disgust enter his friend?s eyes. His friend was also opening his mouth to say something offensive??and how she was taken from us. It?s not what you?re thinking, Van. I may be male and stuff, and I may have dreams like what you were thinking, however, about Hitomi? Never. She?s a good friend, not some main squeeze that I?d like to make mine.?
?Right.? Van snorted. ?What about that marriage you had wanted so badly three years ago??
?That was different. Then, I didn?t know what I wanted.? Allen shook his head in embarrassment. ?Let?s forget about that ever happening. Anyways, her face is an open book, Van. Her eyes say ?take my hand; come to my world with me. It?ll be all right. I?ll be there?always and forever.? I went to take her hand, Van, to keep her from leaving us, from leaving you. I knew how much you?d hurt if she left us. Her hand passed through mine. It?s usually then that I wake up crying out her name. There?s something rather?humorous about all this though.?
Van cocked an eyebrow. ?What?s that, Allen??
?I was never with her when she disappeared. You were.? Allen held his gaze.
The King stared at him dumbstruck now. His jaw hung open slightly. ?That?s the same dream I have. Thing is, our hands do touch. But I end up losing her anyway. I just can?t believe it. I watched her leave, completely helpless, and I wanted to do something to stop her. I shouldn?t have let go of her hand,? he muttered then, to himself rather to Allen.
Allen narrowed his eyes. ?So, you?re saying that you and I are having the?same?dream??
Van nodded slowly, scratching the back of his neck. Allen blinked. ?My, God!? he exclaimed, his eyes darting back and forth frantically. ?What?s going to happen? Is it a dream? A nightmare? Or maybe it?s a vision that?s trying to explain something to us??
Van shrugged uncomfortably. ?I don?t really know, Allen. Is that why we look like shit at this moment??
A smile slowly crept onto both their grim faces. And they both burst into loud laughter that rang throughout the gardens. Birds above them flew away noisily, frightened by the sudden outburst of mirth. Allen nodded. ?That?s probably the reason, Van.?
?I guess we should be heading back. I mean the others might get worried or something. I?m sure you know how Merle is?? He grinned, chuckling still.
Allen dramatically rolled his eyes. ?Yes. I remember too clearly. Perhaps you?re right. Let?s get going, Your Majesty.?
They both stepped out of the private garden to find Celena and Merle walking towards them. Allen swallowed, clearing his throat loudly. A look of uneasiness haunted his eyes. Van glanced over at him and read the question within his royal blue eyes: Were they listening to us? Van shook his head firmly to confirm it. If Merle had heard anything, she would?ve come bounding towards him, demanding the reason for him keeping it all from her at all. Celena smiled a big smile and waved quietly. He dark blue eyes abruptly went wide, and her hand dropped to cover her mouth as she tried to stifle a gasp of surprise. Allen furrowed his brows together in concern and question. And began to run to her. But he couldn?t move from the spot he was standing in.
Merle shook her head slowly, a look of uncertainty and fear in her eyes. ?No! Lord Van!? she screamed, starting to run towards him.
Celena lunged for the anxious cat-girl. Her arms wrapped around Merle?s slim waist, and she pulled her into a tight embrace. Merle began to thrash within the small circle of protection, but it was no use?the human female proved to be stronger. ?No, Lord Van! Don?t go,? the cat-girl moaned loudly. She bowed her head.
Van frowned, a look of confusion in his eyes. What was going on? He took a step towards her to comfort her, and tell her that he wasn?t going anywhere, when all of a sudden his forehead smacked into an invisible wall of air. He gasped, a hand to her slightly pounding forehead. His eyes lowered and he stared at his feet. He lifted his head, a small smile touching his lips, and looked at Allen. ?You know we?re not touching the ground??
Allen looked over at Van and nodded. ?I know. I was waiting for you to figure that out.? He chuckled and shrugged. ?Are you thinking what I?m thinking??
?Let?s do it!?
Almost as if having heard the King?s command, the white light that had jumped out from beneath them grew brighter, nearly blinding them. Within the deepest cave of their eardrums, there was a slight crackle, followed closely by a buzz, and then a low hum that grew louder and louder. The bright light then engulfed them completely, shutting off their view of the castle grounds, the two women, the curious staff that helped with the care of the castle.
Van felt the hair on his arms rising as there was a snap of electricity around him. Something lashed out at him, catching him on the forearm painfully. He cursed loudly and tried to pull away from it. No use. It pierced through his flesh, sending immense bolts of pain and electricity throughout his entire body.
Before he passed out, he heard Allen?s voice faintly in his ears. Aside from the loud purring, and the electrical static, he heard him quite clearly. Unless that was in the back of his head. Didn?t matter. He focused his mind on the deep voice. ?All right! Celena. Take good care of Merle. We?ll be back in now time. I promise.?
Van closed his eyes against the bright light that seemed to turn his insides around so that they hung on the outside. Was this what Hitomi felt whenever she traveled through this?light? Was it ever this painful for her? The insides of his lids were purple. He tried to squeeze them shut tighter, just to shut out the blinding light that continued to assault him ruthlessly. And relentlessly. Just over all the sounds, he managed to hear something?a female voice. Come find me?I?m hurt. Don?t use your sword! He didn?t mean any of it. Just leave. Before they were whisked away up into the brightly sunlit skies of Gaia, the frightened screams of Merle, and the pleas of Celena were the last things either one of them heard.

Hey! What do you mean 'if' there's a new part? You wrote that a couple of months ago! There had BETTER be a new party, missy, or I'm coming after you.
Dumb Amano. Oo Someone needs to kick that creep's butt and good. (bounces) I've always wondered what would happen had Van went back later, or vice versa, but sending Allen too spices things up.
So write, write!
