Tears in the Rain 1/? (2xR)

Post by Stuntcat »

Teaser for fic I think I'll be working on for a long time....@.@

Anyway, hope I posted it correctly....

Onward then:

Tears in the Rain

There once was a time, a time long ago, where kings still ruled, and immortals roamed the earth. The gods had fled long ago, and the immortals had been teased or forced into captivity, for although they were immortal, their power waned. Slowly the immortals died out, and the few that remained were left with only a small fraction of the power they once possessed. And here in the castle of one of these kings, who held one of these immortals, our story begins......

!@!@!@!@!

Relena was cold. So freezing that her naked back shivered convulsively as she pressed her forehead to the cold bars of her cage. She crouched in the corner, the biting cold of the stone in the castle mixing with the ice of the unknown metal of the bars. She tried to sleep even though she knew her efforts were futile; every time she was close to sleep a sound would rouse her, and she would assume it was the King. She hardly ever slept now, except for when she passed out from exhaustion. Her wings shielded her body from view, the soft down the same honey color of her hair. They were both darkened to a rusty auburn with dirt and blood. Indeed, if you looked closely one was sticking out at a slightly odd angle. She had been healing slower and slower lately, and she didn't understand why, but it hurt her. It was yet another symbol of her fall from grace; she had been one of the most powerful before, and now she was reduced to this. The King didn't care, in fact she suspected he liked it because he could keep her under control easier.

She whimpered as she heard the door slam. It could mean only one thing: King Hage had returned. And so soon! She hadn't recovered from the bruises he inflicted last time. She couldn't really tell how long ago it was, except for how healed her bruises were. The days in her dank prison bled together; the lines between day and night were hard to draw when there were no windows.

"Hello my pet." The cold voice was all too familiar, and she cringed away from him when he reached in to pet her wings.

"Please....don't...." Her broken whisper was easily heard in the silence that hovered ominously in the room. He pulled back abruptly, his face hardening as he stared at her crumpled form.

"You ungrateful bitch." He slapped her lightly on her broken wing and she let out a soft yelp. "Today is the freeing day." Her head shot up at that, her shock plain. "That's right, you're free. For the month." She let a small smile creep on to her face. He practically growled at the look of hope on her face." But don't try to escape, you're MINE! For as long as I live."

"Yes m-master." She was whimpered again, she ached all over. With her injuries, she really should be dead. But she couldn't die, she was immortal, and by now she cursed her immortality. She would live through any torture he put out, and she would live. But how she wished she would die, just pass out and never come back to this horrible nightmare she was living.

The king was always there, tracking her, holding her in iron cages while he played with her, waited for her to break even more. He was obsessed with her, he saw her as a possession, an animal, and she hated him for it.

She had only escaped once, once in the many years she had been with him.

And it had been on a freeing day. She remembered everything, the birds who swirled around her, the cold gray of the sky, and the biting air on her face. Freeing days were her last solace, the one day when he let her out, for the entire month. Relena knew it was probably just another one of his games, another way for him to taunt her, but she didn't care. And she remembered when he had recaptured her in brutal detail. She still cringed at the memories.

She had not broken yet. She would never beg for him. She would play submissive, she would do what he asked, but always hiding behind her docile facade, she would long to escape. Long to fly the open sky again, to embrace the only world she understood.

She didn't belong here, in the world of mortals, greedy mortals who bickered and murdered, killing each other for their causes. At one time she had been worshiped as a goddess but she really didn't know quite what she was, and she didn't care. She was alone; she knew that much, a unique creature, another discarded plaything of the creators. And so she had let them worship her, keep her in a temple which was nothing more then a gilded cage. She had enjoyed that for awhile, the sweets and sacrifices, but she had eventually tired of even that, and returned to the wilderness and the sky. They were her final home, they and the alone possessed the freedom she needed.

He opened the cage door, snapping off the iron collar she had all but forgotten she wore as he stepped aside. She practically scurried through, her wings shifting into a position where they could hardly be seen.

She followed him silently through the halls. Padding on bare feet past gaping onlookers, the King's court; they knew the King kept group of very exotic pets but most had never seen one of them. Relena spread her wings about her again, and ignored the chill on her back. Relena kept her eyes downcast, knowing her wings and her hair, which hit her about mid waist, covered most of her nakedness. He led her into a room with huge windows, and many books. She assumed it was either his study, or a library. He waited as she blinked, her eyes adjusting to the sudden burst of light. Once she focused on him again, he looked her up and down, then handed her a smock which he seemed to pull from nowhere.

He gave her one last warning glare, then swept the gigantic windows open. Then he turned back and grinned, and he looked rather pointedly at her broken wing.

"You have to fly out of here, otherwise you can't go." She glared at him but steeled herself; flapping her wings experimentally. It was going to hurt, but she could make it far enough away. Then she could rest, and hopefully heal a little bit. Maybe she could even escape.

She flapped as hard as she could, spreading her wings to their fullest extension, knocking several papers and books akimbo, and got a running start on the window. She closed her eyes and jumped.

She felt the wind brush her face, and she flapped her wings, gliding away. Away from the castle, away from her prison, away from him.

She managed to hold out for many miles. Past the last bits of civilizations, until she was far into the forest. But her wing was sending fiery lances of agony up her torso. And suddenly the pain was too much and she crumpled, collapsed in the air. Then fell from the sky, streaking towards the forest far below.

She hit the ground with a jarring crunch, her wings softening her fall. But she felt the fragile thin bones in her wings snap as she hit. And she curled up in pain as her wings curled around her body. But she would be safe her for awhile, the animals here would not hurt her, for they remembered the days when the immortals ruled. Relena felt safe for the first time in man years. There were no humans, and she was surrounded by the comforting noises of the forest. She had one month to heal and escape. But she would start tomorrow. She rolled over, her wings facing outward.

The pain overwhelmed her. She passed out.

!#!#!#!#!#!#!

Duo heard it again.

A low moaning, continuous and so soft it almost blended with the forest noises.

Almost.

He quickly walked in the sound of the noise, clearing the underbrush in his way with his staff. He hoped it wasn't a unicorn. He hated the hunters coming in his forest and hurting such innocent creatures. And there were only a few left. Probably just his herd, who he protected viciously. The unicorns were so defenseless, and everyone hunted them. Just yesterday he had found a wounded one.

The immortals were dying. He did understand why, but the humans had found some way to hurt the energy that the immortals drew off, and the immortal's power waned now.

They could survive forever still he suspected, but now they were vulnerable to humans attack. He heard rumor the most powerful were still invincible. But he was just a hermit, and it was only the gossip of hunters, stolen from the wind.

But back to the event at hand. If it was another unicorn, he would have to patch it up and hope for the best. He was no mage, despite what rumors might lead townsfolk to believe, even if he had amazing knowledge of herbs.

He was actually a nice fellow, if he did say so himself, but he just got so angry when the hunters infringed on his property.

He burst into the clearing where the noise was coming from and gasped. In the middle of the clearing, or practically, was a huge bird with gigantic auburn wings, which appeared to be broken in several places. The wings were so huge, the bird couldn't be a normal mortal; it had to be immortal. He slowly approached it and apparently it heard him, because it stirred and underneath the wings, the bird let out a very human moan.

"Shh, I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to help you...." Duo crept closer to the obviously mortally wounded bird. He didn't often talk to the animals he rescued, but immortals tended to be more wise then mortals, not matter what form they took. Once he was within about five feet of the bird, it rustled its wings and started to moan louder, he assumed in a subconscious attempt to scare him off. Suddenly the bird flipped over, and his mouth fell open in shock.

It wasn't a bird. But it wasn't human either, it had to be a fallen angel. A very battered, very naked angel. Well, not exactly naked, but she (he assumed it was a she) had had a hard landing, and the clothing she wore was largely ripped to the point of being unrecognizable. When he moved closer, the angel opened wide sky blue eyes and stared at him.

He reached a hand towards one of the livid bruises on her face. She gave a little shriek and tried to scoot away. She was muttering something low, and when he finally made it out he was shocked. She was pleading with him not to hurt her. Obviously someone had mistreated this immortal, whether she was an angel or not he wasn't sure, but he was going to help her.

"Easy there little lady, I'm not going to do anything to you, just come with me, and we'll see if we can get you fixed up." She wasn't listening to him, that much he could tell from her face. She was still muttering her litany of pleas, and she had actually managed to start moving away from him, even though her battered wing were definitely getting in her way.

"I really hate to do this, but you'll thank me later babe." He jerked his hand out, faster then she could block in her injured state, and hit a pressure point which knocked her out.

As she slumped against him, he picked her up and cradled her gently in his arms, marveling at how light she was, even with her huge wings as he carried her to his hut.

Right then. Whee~

Oooooh weeeeeee!!!! Duo and Relena!!! Another favorite coupling of mine!!! Okay so I like Relena with any male from the show. I cannot wait for the next installment! That last statement means that you just can't think about working on this one. It means that you will work on this fic'o'grandeur!

Although I do have one question regarding Duo. Is he mortal or immortal or a cross between the two? I'm just curious that's all. :D

Keep up the good work!

Wow, n9ice beginning, this story has captured my attention. Relena's immortal and Duo...well, he is going to be Relena's rescuer. Hmm...

Just one question : Relena is immortal which means she can't die. But, in the beginning of this story, you wrote that many immortals vanished. How is it possible? They can get weaker, but is it possible for them to die?

Anyway, good job here! I can't wait for more!!!
