Now it makes sense when Hatori didn't do anything. I really don't think that Hatori would hurt a woman.

I want to know the whole rationale behind Takaya suddenly making Akito a woman. Other than the fact that she got bored? XD
Because it couldn't have been in the plan. In the last episode of the anime there is BLATANT MAN CLEAVAGE on Akito's part, no womanly quality at all.
And I didn't see any booblets in that spandex in the manga..>/

Hmm...now that's a thought.

From what little I've seen from the manga scans, Akito's boobicles aren't big at all, but they're still there. Binding the chest would be an easy thing to do. It's not like Akito has breasts that rival those of the Natsume sisters in Tenjou Tenge (or any other female in that series...but I heart it nonetheless).
Regardind the anime, well all I have to say is this. Did Takaya want the anime producers to know of Akito's secret? Most likely something would have been alluded to in the anime. Maybe she wasn't even sure at the time whether she wanted to throw in that twist or not. Normally when someone begins a story, regardless of format, the characters are already fleshed out. Saying that Takaya did it just to mess with fans, she got bored, or whatever else comes to mind isn't being fair the the manga-ka.
Why would she need to do that unless it was already planned from the very beginning? In the anime Akito has a male voice (at least I do believe that the VA is male). In keeping with the secret, it would only stand to reason that she would want the audience to believe Akito was male instead of female. Giving Akito a female VA would have more than likely threatened the secret.
Look at the big picture. Unless Takaya comes out and says, "Yup! I was bored shitless and decided to create controversy by making Akito have boobicles. So deal with it suckers! HAHAHAHAHA! HA!" then I'm going to believe that there's more to the decision than that.
Unless of course there's the a Gren like Akito. "I'm a man, but I have breasts. Damn drugs. Adore me regardless." Which most people would do because...hell Gren is damn hot even with his boobicles.
It's now past my bed time. Thanks. I have to work in the morning dammit. And here I was worried about that ItaSaku smut fic I read being the bane of my sleep.

I'd try to feel sympathy for you but I honestly can't. Sorry. I'm actually not sorry so I shouldn't have said that in the first place.
To me that's the main excuse people have for disliking Akito's real gender. The loss of yaoi pairings that involve Akito. *shrugs* Just because yaoi is such a huge thing for many fandoms, it does not mean that it's true of the characters themselves unless explicity stated otherwise. And last I checked, it wasn't stated.
I don't get my Akito x Tohru pairing in the m/f way that I wanted. You don't get your Akito x Gure pairing in the m/m way that you wanted. I can deal with Akito x Tohru f/f just fine even though it's a pipe dream. I can deal with Akito x Gure in the m/f pairing that is now presented.
It's actually an easy decision. Like it or leave it. Especially on this board which is non-yaoi. *shrugs* I like the fact that Akito is a woman and it brings to light a lot of reasons behind certain actions.
Again I'm way past my bed time and work beckons me.

You can't base anything on the anime. It wasn't made by Takaya-sensei, and it already strays from the manga in many ways. If you look at Takaya's work (aka the manga) it's not reasonable to say that she just pulled Akito as a female out of thin air. None of the characters who know Akito's gender refer to her as "she" in front of her. We never see nearly as much skin as we do in the anime. Akito's hatred of women and adoration and jealousy over the male characters never made sense before, even if Akito was a gay male like people thought (because there was never any justification for a gay Akito hating women).
Takaya has proven time and time again that she had this manga planned from the beginning. Just look at the red hat storyline, which was foreshadowed in the very first chapter, even though it didn't come to fruition until recently. That's the great thing about her stories. When you go back, you're like "Omg, it makes sense now! It was all right there and I just didn't see it."

True, mizaya. Natsuki Takaya just keeps her fans on their toes. Just when you thought you knew everything, she pulls out a fast one that leaves you stunned.
I can't wait for other twists. And I can't wait to find out how come Kureno isn't cursed anymore.

Have you seen the scans yet, Melrose?? They're quite

worthy!!! This manga suddenly got a lot more eventful and twisted in a very short period of time.
