(Cough) Excuse the interruption. I have a strong love/hate relationship with Akito. But I mostly pity him. He bears the brunt of all the curses and he seems to be especially bitter and closed off from the family. He knows they resent him, even fear him and he gets off on that, but I do think he's decidably miserable. Sigh...I want the Fruits Baskets manga to come out faster! I'm suffering withdrawl.

I want the manga now, actually.

Yes, he is a miserable guy (because of the curse), but I think that's not a good enough excuse for what he did to the other juunishi.

hhm...

but does anyone really think that he's truly evil inside?

what if the way he acts is like a facade he uses to protect himself? i don't mean to get all philosophical or anything, but...
i think he is not just physically ill, but also mentally as well. people who are 'insane' don't get tried normally in courts, so is it fair to judge him using normal standards?

who knows. maybe there's just that glimmer of good inside of him. maybe he's suffering from remorse for the things he has done.

I don't know.... He sure didn't look remorseful when he threw Rin out the window and called her dirty. He looked maniacal and scary. He also appeared to get great joy out of scaring Yuki with all that black ink. In the anime they make it look like he has hope for the future but the manga is a whole different story. I'm not saying that there's no hope left at all, because it's the point of the series to help people overcome emotional demons, but anyone who would hit Tohru is obviously not right in the head.

ahh... I am not familiar with the manga.

but the birds! what's up with the birds that's everywhere around him? birds don't hang around evil people...
okay, i know, that's lame.

alright, my opinion of him might change after i read the manga.

The birds...well...he kills them, actually.

There's this rumor akito's actually the rooster, or the bird, but I'm not sure on that...I still think he's the 'god'.

Akito, good? In the manga, he's really scary. In the anime, he was shown to be a bit milder, but gods, he's such a...cruel person in the manga.

ah...that's really too bad then. i was actually hoping that he'd turn good or something.

hm, him being the rooster? that's rather interesting. I've always wondered about the rooster. Who's the "god"? Is there a god in the jyuunishi tale? I am not really that sure.

In the jyuunishi tale, the jyuunishi was going to a banquet held for God. Cat was tricked by mouse (thus the whole emnity between them).

God is "Akito", or so he said in volume 11 of the manga.

Evil? HELL YES! Akito's a psychopath! I only have a small smidgen of pity for him. And that lessens everytime he's cruel to his family or Tohru. I believe he is resentful and bitter, but I think baring the curses and being the family head has made him insane. He really gets off on hurting and terrorizing his family. He's lost it! The Sohma's better watch their backs and Tohru's!
