Alt Pairing Reflections - What are your thoughts?

It says, "They're all worthy of her love." No new love in there.

And I'm not upset. Maybe irked but not upset.

And when I was referring to the other females as relying on Heero to save their butts, I meant that they put all their faith into him, expect him to be their savior, and place so much on his shoulders because they expect him to save the world/universe. They may have played their own role, but they left it all up to him ultimately. They expected him to be the one to save them (and I'm not talking individually either). I did mean to, and forgot, to add that Dorothy isn't included in this. She's on a level all her own as she should be.

I also give Heero a lot of credit. A lot. What I'm trying to point out is that no one barring Relena is able to evoke real emotion from him. The other women, while most have a militaristic background, would more than likely be viewed as strictly peers, co-workers. He would respect them for their strength and abilities but that would be it.

Calm waters do run deep, which is why I love and adore Trowa. Oh I also never give anything to anyone on a silver platter. I hint, prod, and even poke but so long as the right ends are met, all is well. ~_^

And I think I liked that one pairing before AS.

I'm a fan of threesomes, foursomes etc. and yes, I've written them, be they good or bad. Mostly because I don't like Relena to have to choose between the male characters. So if she's in a fic paired with 1 or more guys I'll most likely read it . Also why shouldn't Relena be worthy of all their affections.

That works both ways Dovey. And I do agree with both Dove and Midii.

Character bashing is a no-no. In my opinion that's just a half-rate writer's way of hiding his inadequacies.

Maybe. But if the writer goes around spouting crap about how Relena is stupid because he likes pink, I think it's well deserved.

And having to choose is often one of the best points in a fic, Dove. It is is not possible (in my mind) for you to love two people equally. One always takes a back seat. And I can't see Heero, or any of the G-boys(except maybe Quatre) accepting that kindof situation.

Lastly I've been becoming found of the VERY obscure alt pairings.

Quatre x Une
Heero x Sally
Duo x Dorothy

I dont know why but the more obscure, the more interesting it turns out. Probably cause of the differing personalities.

Ok, after reading most of what everyone had to say, i am going to add my own two cents to this and hope not to make a post that could be turn into a book because it is that long...

So to begin. First off, i got to admit i can't see Heero with anybody but Relena. Those two just connect in a way that i think we are all envious of, and wish for ourselves. Each time the other is in trouble, their last thought is of each other, and they usually know when the other is trouble. Heero hasn't been able to connect with another female character in the whole show, not even Sylvia Noventa, who is the only other woman i feel could make a bid for his heart.
Unlike Wicked, i don't feel Dorothy would even be a contender, i feel Heero would be able to see right through her, because what i do agree with wicked about is that Dorothy would only see Heero as a conquest, and it would never last. The only person to ever get a real reaction out of her is Quatra... but we won't go into that because that is not a alt pairing.

As for Relena, while i am a firm 1xR, i have to admit that i have a strong love for the 3xR pairing. *blames wicked for this near traitorius act* This pairing in my eyes are plausable, and not because Trowa is a near clone of Heero, in fact, i feel just the opposite. Trowa and Heero do have similar characteristics, but there are too many differences to be able to say they are mirror images of each other, and i don't just mean physically. Heero fights to stop other people from fighting, Trowa fights because that is all he has ever known. It wasn't until he met the other Gundam piolts that he really started to make the decisions of why he was fighting and for what and who. I think that is why him and wufei get along so well... but i am going slightly off topic here... sorry

Trowa and Relena are plausable paring simply because they would not only find the other interesting, but their personalities are compatible. They respect one another, love peace and ready to give it their all to whatever situation requires it. In the end, those two will always understand each other. Especially Trowa almost unaturally understanding of emotions when he rarely shows any of his own.

The only otherr Relena alt paring i support is Rx4. That's right, Quatra Rababa Winner. *hears moans from her audiences* Shh!!! hear me out first. I know they are smilar, but that is what will actually make them work. Relena and Quatra are from the same social circle, both from pacifistic backgrounds but in the end both have decided that it is alright to stand up and fight. One chose to do that for her belief in peace and that was the peoples will (endless waltz) the other fights for his loves ones, to protect them (episode zero). They will understand each other always, and be able to help each other out in the political world.

While i have seen rather good DuoxR and WufeixR i just can't bring myself to believe these pairings are possible. Wufei sees things far too much in black and white to be able to see the grey areas that Relena sees. After all, she is always making the choices that no one else can think of. (look at how she gave up her kingdom. Everyone else thought that she would either choose to fight or not to fight and let the kingdom be destroyed, even we viewers could only see those two options, but she came up with another solutioin. A surrender, that wasn't really a surrender.) And Duo is just far too goofy to be able keep Relena on an even keel. Don't get me wrong, his goofy natural is what Relena needs in the short run, and while i know Duo is more than able to be serious, he just not compatible with her. He would not fit with her and that is that.

As for the other gundam piolts are am a firm cannon pairing. 2xhilde, 4xDorothy, 3xMidii Une, 6xNoin and 5xSally.

However,i got to admit i have found other pairins that have quite interest me.

While i do think Trowa and Anne Une are quite a plausible pairing, i just don't see it happening. I don't think i can ever see Une being able to sway from her devotion to trieze. And as for Trowa, i just don't think the thought would ever enter his head. It is the way things are sometimes.

However, i do find Wufei and Mariemaia a very believable and plausable pairing. Besides the fact that not only her father respected him, i do believe that Mariemaia would find Wufei fascinating, and be drawn to him because he was on her side during Endless waltz.
As for wufei, i do believe he coulld fall for Mariemaia when she is older. She is strong individual, and determine to get what she wants and just enough of madness/genious to keep him guessing. Their relationship would be an honest one, maybe even a little harsh, but have a gentle nature too it in the end.

Trowa and Catherine just would never work for me for obvious reasons. *cough* incest *cough*

And neither does Quatra and Catherine works for me, mainly because of Dorothy and relena pairing suits much more then Catherine ever would. Catherine, while an understanding individual, is bossy and is not able to understand totally the reasons behind the actions of the gundam piolits. Why they change sides and why they are all connected to each other. The very fact she tried to stop Duo from talking to Trowa proves to me that she didn't entirely understand their reasons for their choices, even though i do understand why she did try to keep the gundam piots away from her brother. She is also just too bossy for my liking, LOL. But ever since Kmf has entered the pciture i do tend to see her with Rashid... go figure.

Right, i think i better wrap this up before this really does become a book. While we all do have our favourite alternative pairings, the whole point of fanfiction is that you don't really need proof to go and make an alt pairing up and write about it. The whole point of it is to meddle, so as far as i am concerned, all you writers go out their and MEDDLE!! *especially if the alt pairing is 3xR... what can i say, i'm pathetic like that... LOL*

But mostly I love Catherine and Quatre. There's so much potential for chemistry there.

But a fanfiction idea I've been flirting with lately is a good Duo/Catherine (believeable!) pairing, now that would be a great fanfiction challenge.

I am a lazy coward, and thus agree with everything everyone has said.

That said, for no substantial reason other than I think he's hot and she's mah biotch, I like TrowaxRelena as an alt. couple.

Actually, no, I have more reasons for seeing them together...I see Trowa as being one of those coldly wise men, melancholy and empathetic even as he himself is suspended from any recognition of his own feelings. Relena is so conscious of her own feelings that she can't help but also be overwhelmed by compassion for others because she takes on their pain as her own.

I think at first she'd be drawn to him because his quietness would remind her of Heero, but stoicism is the only thing he and Heero have in common and eventually when Relena actually engaged Trowa in conversation/interaction/whatever she'd see that. Heero still has a child within him that yearns to discover, but Trowa's solitude almost seems more ghostly and ancient, like his mission is nothing but that of a passing spirit that bears no ties to a steady life. With Heero, Relena knows they are each other's encouragement, each other's inspiration. With Trowa, I think they would be each other's peace. C'mon, we know Relena, and that old prophet aura surrounding Trowa would suck her right in. She is one curious, persistent wench, is she not? She'd sense the conflicting sides of security and abandonment warring inside him, I think, even more that he does. After all, he wasn't even aware when he was crying inside that mobile suit, he's that disconnected. Leave it to Relena to make that connection.

I adore 1xR, and always will as the series was built around that fabulous pairing for a purpose, but I see 1xR more as two children growing into adulthood together, with their relationship supported on hope, but 3xR is between two adults, no, two old souls who've almost outgrown use of their hope, because hope means awaiting the future, and I think between the two of them all that would matter is the present, if that even makes one crumb of sense (i've pretty much confused myself).

And now that I've subjected you all to a randomly disjointed soliloquy regarding a subject, I, myself, have failed to understand, I say good day.

3xR 4 EVA! Sorry, felt the need to regress into a mindless preteen, and again, sorry for offending any preteens reading the above rant!

Oh ice princess, you're so great! Yeah, when I began this post a while back, I never expected it to get as heated as it did...I just thought it would be random musings on alt pairings, like you so eloquently have done with 3xR. But I suppose everyone has their favorites and is very passionate about them! I absolutely love your thoughts about Trowa and Relena...*sigh*...makes me want to dig up a fic I've been revamping. But I always begin them and never know how to end.

Anyway, I totally agree with your description of Trowa. He is just too completely cool for any words of mine, so I'll stop there.

We NEED more 3xR fics to oversaturate the currently thread-bare posts in the Alternatives Forum. I know, I know everyone, 3xR pretty much dominates already, but I'm all for supporting a newly re-inspired author, aren't you all?

Sphinx, as I'm now giddy with the prospects of another resurgence of 3xR fanfiction, I humbly offer myself as a beta reader if you'd like someone to banter ideas with to get the ball rolling. We obviously both love Trowa to tears (like many others do) so perhaps enthusiasm from an outside source (me!) could help you complete your fic idea.

Anyhoo, just a thought. I thoroughly appreciate your comments on my...uh...comment! *^_^* I'm blushing profusely! I thank you, fellow Trowa fangirl!

This thread has displayed something I really like about this website: People can talk about their opinions here without becoming angry and resorting to petty fighting. Yes, it got a tad heated, but on the whole things were really civil.

That said, I just wanted to say: Write your Trowa/Relena Sphinx, we need more of them! I love that pairing for reasons that I can't possibly state more eloquently than Ice Princess did. My other one is Wufei/Relena, but I have a feeling I said these things at some point a long time ago in this topic. Anyway, I just wanted to encourage Sphinx to get that story written and to encourage anyone with ideas for Alternative stories to get writing! This place is under populated!

I prefer Relena and Heero together...but here are my alternatives:

QuatreXRelena=It works...their fathers were both assassinated, they are both reasonably wealthy, and they are pacisfists.
DuoXRelena=That also works...but I can see him in the "Heero dies" or "Heero the abusive boyfriend" fics.

I have also read a couple TreizeXRelena fics. Which is a little creepy...him supposedly being 24 and her being 15...supposedly anyway. But then again, Une is supposed to be 19, Treize must like young meat. Not sure if they would work as a couple since he is kinda the villian, age differences, and the fact that he does die at the end of the series. However, it could work if it was written as a "what if" fic. I love WIFs ^_^ But then again...I can see the relationship being kinda a forced relationship...such as an arranged marriage, or Relena making a negotation with Treize that she pays dearly for to protect Sanq Kingdom. I can also see it as a non-consensual pairing...*dodges the rabid fangirls hurling of knives and food* As I said...can't really see it working out too much, cause Heero will try to wisk Relena away from Treize anyway. :razz:

Then of course is the controversy of whether or not Trowa and Catherine should be a couple. In the manga "Episode Zero" Trowa is Catherine's long lost brother...in the series Catherine said that Trowa is like her brother. To be on the safe side, I personally wont write a Trowa/Catherine fic just to be safe. But that doesn't mean I wont read Trowa/Catherine fics. :razz:

Quatre/Dorthy? Hmmm...not too sure on that. Seriously that chick needs to wax those babies she calls eyebrows. *shudders* Oh...not that that has anything to do with the pairing. Anyway, reason that I'm not so sure...they didn't really have much interaction other than fighting each other...and she DID stab him, but then again she was sorry for it.

As sick as this may sound...has anyone ever run across a Zechs/Relena fic? I think that would be both disturbing..yet interesting read to find. I mean...he DID kidnap her. Sometimes you never with animes these days, I mean Angel Sanctuary had an incest couple...not saying that Zechs/Relena would work out...it's more out of the curiosity of the unknown. I'm such a curious creature.

Also, I dont mind a OCxCanon pairing as long as it's somewhat believable...I have dreamed up a character that I was thinking of pairing her up with one of the canon guys. Either Duo, Trowa, or Quatre...Wufei, him being a bit of a male chavinist is kinda outta the question...and definitely not Heero! To me...writing a pairing other than Heero and Relena is sacrilige. And I mean...me writing Heero being paired up with someone other than Relena...me writing that personally...not other people who write that. I commend your courage if you're able to write that...I just couldn't bring myself to do that.
