Share the IY fic wealth!!

Post by AidbiA »

Hey everyone!

I don't really know if a thread like this has already been posted in the past, but because I haven't come across one as of yet, I think I'll start one anyways  . Since all of us here love IY fanfics (some to the point of obession, aka me  ) and this forum alone boasts its far share of absolutely inspiring authors, I thought is would be nice to have a thread where people can post some of their favorite IY fics that they've read or are currently dying to read the next chapter of. This is a great way of sharing great writing from other authors, and I don't know about everyone else but I'm always on the lookout for good IY fics to read or to add to my favorite list.

So, I'll start off by sharing some of the fanfictions I've personally enjoyed and think are really good reads.

For smut addicts who like a dose of plot with their lemons:

- Strength of the Bond by Yukiarashi is a terrific original story. It's well paced with good characterization and plot. Truly a hidden gem. The summary is as follows, "AU- Inukag Spiritual powers have the ability to kill carrier, unless by some chance they are bonded to another individual. There are different classes of bond. Miko, Houshi, and Mages need a bonded. Youkai, Hanyou, and dormant humans are the bonds. Heed the rules of the Council of Magera." You can find it here: http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/48748

- Beneath the Skin or We Belong by scherezade are also amazing reads. This author really has a way with words, she's very descriptive, has great characterization, and knows how to make things hot and steamy. The links are http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/86139 and http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/81701.

Well, those are the two fics I thought I'd share right now, oh but there are many more gems to dish out. Anyways, if any of you have the time and are looking for excellent reads, click on over to the above sites and indulge in IY goodness.

Plus, if anyone here has any great fics they'd like to share, feel free to post! Just tell us why you like it and provide the links. Share the love people and remember to R&R!!!

Cheers!!! :D

First, I just want to say thanks for the links to some awesome fics. Though I had read some of them already, I did not know about "We Belong," so thanks for leading me to it. I'm eternally grateful. :)

Well, now I guess it's my turn to share to wealth. Here are a few recent IY fics I've been keeping tabs on.

- "The Seduction Game" by Shizuka Kaze is turning out to be a pretty interesting fic. http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_s ... ubmit=View
Summary by author: "Inuyasha Takahashi is the guy no girl can resist, but when he sets his sights on Kagome Higurashi, he has met his match. When the young girl outright refuses him and angers him, he swore that he would break her and ruin her life."
Yes, it's another bad boy Inuyasha and good girl Kagome fic, but this one is well worth the read. The author has taken a common plot and developed it with her own interesting twist. It is an NC-17 rating for a reason, so kiddies beware.

- "Possession" by Wheezambu is another fic I'd recommend. It's a dark angsty fic so be warned. I normally prefer romantic comedies but this fic has me entralled. http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_s ... ubmit=View
Summary by author: "After defeating Naraku, Inuyasha uses the sacred jewel to become a full demon. Kagome tries to stop him using the rosary, but it breaks. She escapes from the demon and goes home. Now its ten years later and she's going back to Japan for the first time in seven years."

- "Firebrand" by FaTaLfURy is also very good. It's still kinda into the beginning stages and has only six chapters so far, but it's going to be an interesting story. I really like the characterization of Inuyasha and Kagome in this fic. Their reactions and attitudes toward one another are quite humorous as well. If you are a die hard Inu/Kag fan, be warned that this one does start off as an Inu/Kikyo fic. But, it is an Inu/Kag story. The author does, however, portray Kikyo in a very favorable light, so I don't think anyone who likes Kikyo will get offended on that degree. Even though I am not a Inu/Kikyo fan, I find myself respecting the complexities of Kikyo's character more as I watch the series. So, when an author can write an Inu/Kag fic that does not make Kikyo out to be the proverbial bad guy, I find myself intrigued. http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_s ... ubmit=View
Summary by author: "One defiant lady... one domineering lord. Whose will will succumb first?"

Well, I think three fics are enough for now. Happy reading, everyone! :D

Bye!

Thanks for sharng your selection of fics Carebear. I think I've briefly browsed through Firebrand and The Seduction Games and they were decent fics to enjoy sparringly. I've never read Possession, similarily with all other dark fics, simply because stories like the latter are too drearingly bitter for my taste. The most I can usually handle is heavy angst and melodrama.

Anyways, speaking of angst, if anyone is looking for a story that will really yank at your heart strings then readers should be sure to check out the following story:

Life's Menagerie (R) by Funky Nassau. I actually discovered this story a while back and to this day, this is one of the very, very few IY stories that actually made me cry as if my pet dog was run over or as if the world was ending tomorrow. The summary is basically "What is life but a series of choices? The question is, will blind faith be enough. Non AU," and although it doesn't say much about the plot, readers shouldn't be fooled by summaries. What makes this story so great is that it hits the bull's eye in regards to emotional development and character reactions to the cycles of life.

The link is http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1494597/1/

Before you go and check it out, I advise a MAJOR WARNING: Have tissues handy  !!!
Enjoy, and remember to R&R...maybe it'll encourage the author to update soon.

Ja!

Inu/Kag recs.

Author: Midoriko-sama
Title: Picture Me
Summary: Accidents are prone to happen in a difficult life. Disabilities are something a warrior cannot afford. But when the worst occurs, who will keep him from the despair of the blackness around him?

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1844456/1/

Why: I really think it's the imagery in this one that makes it so good. It shows off what a talented writer midoriko-sama really is. The characterizations are splendid. Inuyasha having to learn to trust Kagome really trust her are great.

Author: Cataluna
Title: Two Sides to a Story
Status: WIP or Abandoned
Summary: Once the line between friends and lovers has been crossed, there?s no going back

Why: I'm a sucker for angst I think. Kagome can't help herself and you have to feel the hurt she is going through with Inuyasha.

http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/35447

Sess/Rin recs.

Author: Wicked-oni
Title: Eien Ni Nakunatta Shunkan...
Rating: R
Status: WIP
Summary: Nearly a decade has passed since the Shikon No Tama was split. After a violent, nearly fatal battle with Naraku, Sesshoumaru is left to ponder the value of keeping a weak, young human woman at his side. Primarily SessRin (some angst!); some InuyashaKagome

Why: This story is just achingly beautiful. I know that some can't stand Sessh/Rin but this story just mkes it work. I thinkWickedoni does an outstanding job at writing a Sess that is canon but it still dealing with the conflicting notions of love. He has so many problems with trying to love Rin and trying build some semblance of having a normal life. There are scenes that have Sess's childhood and his mother which I think add a very special depth. This story, which is very heavy on the angst, does a great job with Rin. I can't describe the feelings I have when I read just how loyal and trusting Rin is when it comes to Sess. Yet she has quiet defiance and dignity in her when she realizes the truth of what her relationship with Sess must be. I really don't understand why people think Sess will go against what he believes about hanyous. And Wickedoni does a good job about not hiding that about Sess.

TheMaven's The Girl and In a Different Light
Status: BOth completed
Rating: Both R

In a Different Light does a very good job with the courtship between the two. Things are very detailed and it's obvious that research for the fic was involved, not just about the characters, but about the time period and even aspects of religion. I will say though that I didn't enjoy the chapters toward the end as much as the courtship but Iuno I think that's more to deal with my own personal tastes.

http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/54032

The Girl is a 3 part deathfic. I usually stay away form deathfics because well I don't like to see characters die. But I think it's very interesting to see the way she weaves together the story. It's almost like shifting memories half the time. This does make it soemtimes confusing but I still really like it. The actual death wasn't too bad but the scene of the poeple left behind was sad. I think this would be TheMaven's strongest fic to date concerning the couple.

Yeah, more stories to check out.

amateur_storyteller, I'd have to agree that the stories you recommended are great stories to read if you haven't already read them. Turnabout, Courtship, and Rebound are probably considered "classic" pieces and really set the standard for great writing in the IY fandom. Perhaps one day Turnabout will actually even be completed, here?s to hoping.

bebe_jinx, you really summarized why Picture Me and TStaS are amazing stories to read. I aodre both the latter authors, its just a shame that midoriko-sama's epic story is being plagiarized. Anyways, I'll have to check out some of the Rin/Ses stories even though I'm not particularly a fan of that pairing.

It's always a good day when I find something worthy of reading, and today turned out to be one of those days :D . I've got two new stories to share, both of which I'm very much enjoying.

The first story I actually discovered through someone else's recommendation and I thought I would share it here. It's call "The Black Haired Hanyou" [R] by Le-chan1 and the story summary basically is, "Inuyasha and the others gain a new member to their group, a Small dark Haired Hanyou child from the future. He's Inuyasha's son alright, in looks, acts, and sense, but who's the mother? Kagome or is it Kikyou?"

Right now the story has 5 chapters, but boy are these chapters masterfully written. Each chapter is long, descriptive, the characterizations are spot on, the plot keeps you guessing and there are some rather hilarious moments scattered throuhout. A definite must read! Check it out at: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1425179/1/

Alrighty, the second story had me hook, line and sinker when I first found it. It's called "Watchers in the Darkness" [NC-17] by InuSaga and the story summary is, "What if InuYasha took place in modern day America instead of feudal Japan? A world where demons and humans co-exist, albeit not well, and hanyous are not only rare but ostrasized? A dark twist on the origional story, written entirely from InuYasha's POV, so you can imagine the language. Also, lemony content Inu/Kag."

I just have to say that I've never enjoyed reading a perspective story this much before; I liked it so much that I couldn't stop reading and read all 54 chapters in one sitting. The authoress has a very simplistic style of writing that perfectly suits Inu Yasha's character. She also throws in some very original and creative ideas into her take on the inu-group adventures. The only thing I didn't quite like about this fic was its ending chapters...they were a bit weak for my taste, but that's just my opinion. Anyways, if you're still interested then the link is http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/87874.

Enjoy!!!

I finally decided to contribute. This ff I've read some time ago, and now returned since the text that I had the link at was deleted. So I finally got the title and the link back, and now I'm sharing it with you. It is only one, but it is still good.

On a Leash by Moonlight Shadow4
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1458790/1/
Summary: (AU)(rated for language)Imagine this from Inuyasha's point of view....you've been turned into a dog. A real, yapping, people-don't-understand-you mutt. What to do when you're in the pound? Enter Kagome and let the story begin....

Yes, it is Inu/Kag. Hope you enjoy it!
