Fall

I knew this would happen. It comes around this time year after year. I was kind of hoping that it would be later on, but I must be getting on in my years. I?m older and wiser, but it doesn?t help that I grow weaker and weaker, worn down by the passing seasons, day after day keeping everyone together.

The wind seemed to feel my depression as it rustled past me, seeming to sigh for me. It played with me, weaving around my body, my arms, and then with everyone else. They seemed amused at this, for they laughed and shook. Sometimes I couldn?t help but join in with them. Their innocence was beyond me sometimes.

How young they all really were. None of them really realized that by the end of this year, only a certain percentage of them would be lucky to see the next?if that was what you called being put through hell lucky. Sometimes a few of them departed early, even if it was a slow and painful. They?d hang there, dead and dying, and I?d stand here, helpless and unable to do anything about it.

They were like my children, though, and when they left me alone I can?t help but mourn. The wind that they laugh with scatters them in all different directions of the world and I never seem them in one place again. They turn out so beautiful this time of the year. They have their differences. but all I see are ?my? children. I?ve nurtured them to maturity and they must leave me, I know. It?s still so sad to watch them.

I suppose that all I can really do is wait until I?m too old to even lift my arms anymore.

So I?ll wait until the time comes when I too will fall.
