Getting Hooked on Anime

Post by Ayame Tenchi »

Hi! I'm Ayame Tenchi :D and I'm a new member here at BI. I've known this site for quite some time and your HxR logo, *the one where Heero's mere inches away from giving Relena something else to think about aside from the thing that's actually making her look stunned*, never fails to remind me of this site.

I got linked here compliments of gundamromance. Now, I wonder where did that site disappear to? I can't seem to find it. Hmm...One fanfic there is indelibly etched in my mind. Something about Heero having a toilet paper crises. Pure humour, smooth writing, too.

So, how does one get hooked on anime? Answers anyone? Was it the art? The story line? The characters? The Plot? Something? Everything?

Before we drive ourselves crazy with these questions, why don't we go to an easier one...Which anime got you hooked in being a fan in the first place? Ranma 1/2 for me. It wasn't the first anime I've watched but it was the first one I fell in love with. *bliss*

Ah, Brilliant minds these anime makers have. They just get better and better, as the saying goes, "The Best is yet to come." But according to my instructor, "To Come is Yet the Best."

Hi there Ayame Tenchi *waves*

I actually frequented this site for a long time before actually becoming a member, and don't regret it one bit. Lots of good people here and fun for all ^.^ Welcome aboard!

Sorry I've not heard of gundamromace, searched the net and kept getting Ashiteru :-? 'fraid I'm not much help with finding that story.

Oh dear... what about anime hooks you. For me, I have to say the plot for sure, there is so much going on that it keeps you interested - but I have to be able to relate at the same time. Character development is something that is essential to advance the plot, I love to understand the characters by looking at where they are coming from.
But, mostly, I'm a hopeless romantic (abs luff the pic opening to this site ^^) especially when it is strong characters (like Heero and Relena) denying and then slowly coming to realize their feelings.. if there is any hint of a relationship I can't help but be curious
& of course, anime artwork is to die for!

Gundam Wing was my first anime ever, and the one that got me hooked. HxR foreva. Since then Full Metal Panic has surpassed GW on my list (with GW at a very close second), FMP reminds me more of the way I grew up ^.^ Rurouni Kenshin places third.
I share your sentiments AT, it's absolutely amazing how these animes come together. *_*

Loved your intro! Keep it up, post often and feel free to explore :salute: If you have any questions, feel free to PM :)

And remember to have fun! *waves*

Also, thanks to Zapenstap, if not for her stories, I wouldn't be able to rediscover BI. And now, there's a whole new world of fanfics here.

There's just something about couples whose feel deeply for one another and yet vehemently deny its existence either to themselves or to the people around them, and yet their feelings for one another is so palpable that even a blind person would be able to sense it.

Ah, yes, there is Kenshin and Kaoru, Sano and Megumi, Misao and Aoshi. I remember one fanfic author in particular who did justice to these pairings by making a site dedicated to the anime. Its at sekihara.dreamhost.com, those talking servers are so wacky and then there's the steamier fanfics of Yumi at sekihara.dreamhost.com/YumisJournal. I highly recommend it and I guarantee that you won't regret it except that it hasn't been updated lately but the site and its fanfics are still great.

Oh, yeah, Full Metal Panic is lots of fun. The guy sure does take a lot of heat from Kaname or should I say he lets her beat him up to a pulp even if he's very much capable of defending himself. Hardy harhar. I like it when a guy does that. *ahem*

The silent types are so...sexy? charming perhaps. Especially when they exude this predatory aura, reeking of intelligence and sex appeal. Umhmm...Seshoumaru comes to mind, Heero and Yue, too. Most of the time the villains of the stories are characterized in this way, so full of mystery, maybe that explains the attraction, the challenge in figuring out a conundrum.

Anyways, thanks to the people who made this site and others like it. You're the ones who give the characters of the anime and the anime itself a new breath of life and a sense of continuity. Great big Thanks to you all.

Hey, i was a long time frequent before i actually joined. discovered this place by gundamromance too, personally i think that it is on a permanent hiatus. I know exactly what fanfic you're talking about with heero and a toilet paper crisis.

To answer your question on how does one get hooked on anime, i believe that it simply happens or it doesn't. I've introduced many of my friends to anime and they didn't take to it, so...

GW was my fist love and still my favorite, though beach is getting there.

Enjoy!
Mucho luv,

You're a very gifted writer, even in your introduction. Do you happen to write fanfics as well? It'd be very interesting to read some of your work.

Welcome, welcome - have a virtual hug. -hug-

What series got me hooked on anime? That's like "your most embarrassing sexual moments" but it'd have to be Fushigi Yuugi by Yu Watase. The Mysterious Play. Anyone had the misfortune of coming across it? Other than me?

It took me a whole night of Yuugi to get addicted to it, tho. That's something I can say in my defense.

The mecha thing I had going since I was a kid. I used to watch Macross when it came on Sci-Fi channel. Back in the days ol' Sci-Fi wasn't expensive here in Santa Claus Land. The good ol' days.
